I've been enjoying your videos for a while, and think your two albums are very good, so I thought after the backlash for you having a completely normal and mainstream political opinion, i'd join your patreon. Keep up the good work, I've still got loads of your content to catch up on! I don't get why people want to only watch content from people they agree with - there's plenty of content creators I don't agree with politically, but enjoy their content 🤷

Tom, you have inspired me so much with your videos and your easygoing attitude: chatting with strangers and relying on their generosity, cherishing the environment, the freedom to travel abroad and rely on public infrastructure. In short, everything that Reform is actively working to destroy. I don’t understand how the sole issue of immigration can trump all these values you promote in your videos. I will unsubscribe but I want to thank you for everything and wish you the best for the future.

Huge fan Tom, have been since the very beginning and donated to your first ever Wales mission gofundme. I'm not here for your political takes or opinions. However, I do think Reform are possibly the worst thing to ever happen to this country, and voting for them will strip us of our national identity that you so crave. Them and their supporters don't support free speech at all, they want to shut down anybody with a different opinion and I'm honestly shocked that you can't see this. I'll be staying, but I want to strongly urge you to take a step back and look at all the people associated with Reform, e.g Tommy Robinson, and ask yourself if that's the future you want for this country.

Been meaning to mention on here for a while that I'd love to see a part 2 of trying to survive in the woods for 3 days with Ben. Don't think it was one of the biggest hits on the channel but it's genuinely one of my all-time favourite videos, and Ben is hilarious. The commentary and reactions to the food you found was sheer brilliance. I watched it a couple of years ago with my parents when I went to stay with them over Christmas and they loved it as well.

Thought about subbing for a while. Finally decided to after watching this on YouTube. You make great videos and great content mate. There is a loud minority who will scream and shout if they don't agree with everyone of your opinions. But there is an greater majority who will support you non the less they will just get drowned out by the people terminally online. Have a great weekend and keep up the great content.

Came for the content, saw there is apparently some drama, had to put my two cents in. First of all, what I am about to write is not meant to ascribe anything to Tom personally, it's just things in the larger discourse and how they can be interpreted. With that out of the way. This is the thing that I want to focus on: "It doesn’t take a genius to imagine what the damage might look like in 50 years time if we carry on like this [...]" What is problematic about this sentence is it's total ambiguity. It could mean anything. One interpretation of this statement could be: "White people are being replaced with brown essentially subhuman monkeys by globalists (((jews)))***", and people who believe in such stuff, basically the great replacement conspiracy, actually use the same language as a dogwhistle to further their agenda. Normal people can still interface with the statement verbatim but the ones very far to the right know what they are actually saying. This is how dogwhistles work in the political discourse. At the same time, it could also just be an expression of genuine concern over immigration from societies with different cultures. Many people migrate to democratic industrialized countries, not ONLY because they love those specific societal values*, but maybe because they don't want to live in poverty anymore. Essentially there is a valid point here about how to address the potential issue where many people that do not share the same values come to a democratic society without being interested in those values**. The core issue with the original statement therefor is: It could be a dogwhistle. Again, I am just going letter by letter, this is not about anybodies actual personal beliefs here. But just in case someone actually believes in the great replacement theory or is suceptible to doing so, let me end on some interesting sociological facts: At the start of the industrial revolution there were about 1 billion humans on earth, so that number increased by about factor 8. In those times most people had a bunch of children, everywhere on earth was similar in that regard, but many died in infancy, childhood, at work etc. For a wide variety of different reasons two trends converged in industrialized nations (not just democracies), 1. Basically no child mortality or mortality at all aside from old age, cancer, accidents or cardiovascular diseases. 2. people started having very much fewer children, about 1.5 per woman on average give or take. Not that many years ago scientists thought the human population could skyrocket way beyond what we currently approach. If things stay similar to now we may not cross the 10 billion threshold, so 120% of what it currently is. After that point it will quickly DIMINISH AGAIN. That is because industrialization and modern medicine reaches more and more remote places on earth. It also turns out that 2nd or 3rd generations of immigrants, while still usually having some distinctness cuturally (I am talking food preferences, religion etc.), they very much align with the fertility rates of native people very "quickly" (generationally speaking, after 2 or even 1 generations). So even if it seems that there is a grain of reasonable concern about "immigrants with different morals that have a bunch of kids" may seem warranted, at the end of the day it is a current trend amplified by a VERY unbalaned global economy and climate change. Even if there are higher number of immigrants than usual and they come from countries with higher birth rates, most of their children or grandchildren will be much more similar to "natives". (We should still have a good school system, make sure kids are properly taken care of educated, etc.) The question is then: How do we help people across the globe to make their lives bearable in their home country, so they do not go through the very real dangers of migration, but live happy and satisfied lives without such nonsense just to survive. That however is also not something I hear being a focus on the mind of right-wing pundits, who are "concerned about migration". I also think telling someone he is a fascist for making that statement is not helpful at all. But saying nothing or only being outraged by those that say "fascist", is also not great. I wish we could all live in peace and happyness without those bothersome discussions, but it does not work like that. We have to have these discussions with compassion and empathy. "You do not make peace with your friends, but with your enemies". And even that statement is shite, because we are not enemies, we are all faulty humans in one way or another. Still, I think devisive political pundits are just about as helpful within all this as are giant media corporation that feed off of ragebait content, algorithms that only try to extend the time you watch and and are not touching grass or even radical people that cannot tolerate a differing opinion anywhere in society (left, right, religious, whatever). Anyway, I hope it helps somebody. I glossed over a bunch of stuff, of course there is space to have a civilised discussion about migration (even if many people on the left such as myself seem to disagree on principle -- also not very helpful****), I hope that was made clear. Cheers Sidenotes: * I hope that we can all agree that people who want to leave authoritarian societies, because they love freedom of speech, religious freedoms, democracy, due process, should receive all the support we can give them, no matter the color of their skin, they sexuality or which religion they were born into. But this a message I also do not see in the right side of the political spectrum. ** Many autochthonous (:native) people also no longer share those values and that should maybe be a bigger concern even if the other one is true. I also feel like divisive politics are not helping in strengthening a democratic discourse, especially in those people already in a very far off mindset (left and right). but I digress *** I will not argue about the 'merits' of globalist conspiracy theories, that all boil down to: Jews think they are better than us, that is why everything bad that ever happened is of their making. The only antidote to such thought is touching grass, stable relationships, meeting people of different colors and creeds, and I can provide none of this here, it's a bit more along what Tom is doing (personally and as a videographer for other to indulge). **** I understand why people are principled like that if you look at how certain states tread people with different skin colors for just existing, it's just not a very helopful sentiment in the grand sheme of things Something I just thought to add: Why do well educated, "native", young adults in western countries only have 1.5 children or less, is something we should be very concerned about. Sex is great, children give a whole lot of meaning to life (not by personal experience, but seeing it in friends). But besides trying to recreate 1950s societies, right wing pundits seem to not be very concerned about the car infested hellscapes, lack of housing, lack of well paying jobs with time to spare for your kids. All of these things could be addressed before even talking about immigration, because it is actually something that affects every single person already in the country. And just making sure there aren't more coming will not change any of those problems mentioned in this paragraph.

I don't agree with all these patronising comments here and I do not think you are a bad person and I actually share many of your concerns, but in my opinion Reform is only going to make things worse. The last thing they care about is regular people. As I see it, all of this is just a means to get power for them. I just cannot support this channel any longer and I will likely be unsubscribing. No hard feelings and I'm sorry. I want to reiterate that I do not think you are a bad person, it is just nothing something I can financially support. I hope you understand.

Reform is one of the biggest frauds ever inflicted upon the UK, and sadly we are falling for it as a nation hook line and sinker. The same man who made everyone poorer through Brexit now claiming he will make us richer, and that it's actually immigrants' fault. That being said, I'm not gonna unsubscribe from this, given that you are literally my favourite YT channel of all time right now, and I'm used to enjoying the content of people who I disagree with politically. One of my favourite TV shows of all time is still old Top Gear, despite Clarkson's often odious politics being included in the show sometimes (unlike these videos). Also, this 'reveal' feels like absolutely nothing compared to when I found out Bald and Bankrupt was... a special kind of tourist... When so much of the country (according to polls at least) is falling for all this nonsense, it's almost inevitable that some of my favourite creators become a part of it. As long as you keep politics out of your content and carry on busting your a*** in random areas making stuff that relaxes me after a stressful day, I'll be here

I don't think you're a fascist, racist or white-supremacist. I don't see how anyone could think that after seeing how you interact with all kinds of people in your videos. Hey Tom, It saddens me to say this, but I can no longer support you. I started watching your GeoGuessr videos in 2019 even before the first straight line mission was released. But it was precisely those missions that kept me watching and even support you on patreon. And in few months it would be 6 years since I decided to give you money. It was my love for nature and freedom, freedom to roam, explore and travel that made me love those missions. But Reform is exactly the opposite to what I believe in. And even though I'm not from the UK, I follow UK politics quite closely. They will end up destroying nature and restricting access to it, preventing people from getting health care they need and making the wealth inequality even grater, among other things. And for what? You said you want safe and happy environment and country for your kids and grandkids. But will they feel safe and happy in a country that destroyed their nature and polluted their rivers and air? And if they grow up being queer, will they feel happy and safe in a country that tries to suppress who they are and prevents them from accessing healthcare they need. I urge you to read and listen and educate yourself. Don't be blinded by a single issue. It's not worth destroying your country and suppressing your freedoms. Seems futile to say much at this point, and I really feel sorry for you if you feel like you're the victim of a pile-on Tom. When I read your first response to this I thought 'oh okay, he's like a lot of people who just have normal concerns'. But seeing your responses to the first proper comments here make it clear you're not much of a floating voter. You really seem to believe that immigration does some kind of intrinsic harm to the fabric of British society. Genuinely kind of heartbreaking to see because it's clear you're a decent guy in your every day life. You've brought joy to literally millions and done loads for charity. A lot of people here questioning why it's an issue or why anyone cares, but for many of us Reform's policies deeply affect our friends and family. It's not just ideology, it's personal. I'm just an average white guy, Reform won't come to me (although they would axe my job in the environmental sector) but they would come for my LGBTQ+ friends and my friends who weren't born in this country. I don't pretend I'm going to be able to Change Tom's Mind here or anything like that but just felt it was polite to say my piece and give a reason for the patreon cancellation. For any actual floating voters I'd (once again) recommend Jimmy the Giant's video on immigration. Really good. Also 'You've been lied to about net zero' by Simon Clark. I hadn't realised just how much of Reform's funding comes from the fossil fuel lobby.

Hey Tom, I’ve been a fan of your stuff for years and have been on your Patreon since 2021. Your content and general antics have honestly been a big boost for me through some rough times, and I’ve always appreciated what you do. That’s why it sucks to say this, but I can’t keep supporting you financially when your politics feel so off to me. I’m not here to call you names or berate you, but I think it’s important to be honest when something crosses a line. Reform’s whole thing around immigration really worries me. They play on fear and it stirs up hate, and we’ve already seen what that can lead to. After the awful killings in Southport, rumours spread online that the attacker was a Muslim asylum seeker. Within hours there were riots, looting, and attacks on hotels housing asylum seekers. That kind of reaction doesn’t happen in a vacuum, it comes from the way politicians immigration. The thing is, the facts don’t even back them up. Immigration has gone up, but crime has gone way down. Violent crime dropped by nearly 30% in 2023, and overall crime is way lower than it was a few years ago. So the whole “immigration equals danger” argument just doesn’t hold water. And it’s not just immigration. Reform want to pull the UK out of the European Convention on Human Rights, which would put us in the same camp as Russia and Belarus. They’re openly anti-LGBTQ+, which hits me personally and a lot of people in your community too. And scrapping net zero would just tie us to fossil fuels forever. None of that feels like a future I’d want to back. I still enjoy your content, but I can’t in good conscience keep funding someone who’s supporting a party that spreads division and fear. Honestly, I think if you dig into what Reform actually stand for, you’ll see it doesn’t line up with the fun, creative, community-focused energy that’s made your stuff so great. A final note, I do really think you are a good person, you seem genuine and down to earth, and I wish you luck with whatever you do, please just understand that I cannot in good faith financially contribute to your content.

My $0.02. Tom, I value you and your content and it's brought a lot of joy to me over the last few years. Hopefully I've made that clear to you at different points. But I'm also an old bearded leftie and I'd be lying if I said this hasn't really upset me, I find so much of what Farage and Reform anathema to everything I care about. I'd hate the thought that what bits of cash I've sent your way may in some way be supporting people I stand firmly against, I'm certainly considering stopping supporting you. BUT the more entrenched we all are in our own positions the less likely we are to move forward as a clearly very divided country. You may remember I work for another organisation that has strong and very different opinions on any number of important issues, and I see it as my job and my duty to try to support everyone I'm meant to be here to support even if personally I may be in a different place to them. I won't do anything rash. Dare I say that you have always been a very effective communicator, and I think that while I'm sure I'd disagree with it, I'd think that were you to explain where you're at with some of the issues, it would help people on different sides of the debate to understand and balance whether we still wanted to support you. I've been subscribed to your patreon for over 4 years (wow time flies). your videos are some of my absolute favorite on youtube, and you're actually the only patreon I subscribe to. your content is often heartwarming, unique, and inspiring. you've even inspired me to get out and do some adventuring in my life and make plans for future travels, which is really important to me. however, I can't in good conscience keep my patreon subscription. some of the most important people in my life are immigrants, or vulnerable people affected by right-wing policies. I myself am also hugely affected by right-wing policies, they target my entire identity and who I am as a person. some of y'all might label me as a "reddit crybaby" or "woke" or whatever, but I don't really care and that's not the point of this message. the point is, your videos really do mean a lot to me, and it's sad when the creator of content that has really changed me as a person seems to have views that go against some of the most important values I have. I simply can't explicitly fund a creator like that every month with my own money. thanks for hopefully understanding.

Hi Tom. Firstly I'd like to say I think some of the comments here are a little ridiculous and over the top. I fully believe that we are all entitled our own political opinions, and you are entitled to yours. However people also have a free choice of whether or not to continue supporting you too. I don't believe you are a racist, or a fascist, but I do believe that Reform support racist and fascist values. I also think it was a naive decision to use the geowizard account to follow, rather than a personal one. Due to the values supported by reform it is my decision to stop supporting the channel. I've been a Patreon member for over 5 years and a YouTube subscriber for longer. I've seen you do some incredible things and would like to say a massive thank you for all the entertainment you've provided. I wish no ill towards you and this isn't simply a difference of political opinions, it's about not supporting a party that itself supports racist and anti-trans beliefs. For me it transcends politics and is more of an ethical question. There's a lot of hate in the world right now. It's literally fucking everywhere. We wake up, and its another shitty news story after another about how the worlds falling apart. Then we go and live our lives trying to do the basic necessities, just so we can survive on this little piece of rock in space. Then, we wake up the next day, and its the same shit. Over and over again. I get it guys. It's relentless. I'm angry too. I came here today, because I literally just wanted to escape the world for a bit and just watch my favourite youtuber crawl though a sewer, and I come here, and fuck me, it's a political shitstorm. I'm not going to unsub as I enjoy your content, regardless of your political stance - I will, however, ask you to do some research for the other side and see if you are falling for the right-wing bait that immigration is the sole issue with our economy, and not the political class / billionaire class hording wealth. A youtuber called Jimmy The Giant's most recent video on it was quite eye opening to me, as someone who was starting to believe everything going around on social media. Immensely disappointed to find out what you believe and and support. Goes against everything you practice in your videos. The smallest minority of people in this country with the least are not making our lives harder, it is plain hate. Reform will destroy the environment of this country and decimate any kind of progressive workers rights we enjoy, including the NHS which exists purely to give people healthcare without discriminating by wealth. We already have terrible right to roam laws in England and reform would only make that worse. Nature reserves and green belt would be built over just for landlords and housing companies to exploit people in "affordable" housing, just so they can increase their profits. Rents would go up, working hours would increase and we will have less rights as people. I have transgender friends who reform don't want to exist and will legislate them out of existing in any dignity that the rest of us enjoy. They will replace any English culture we have with imported US religious fanaticism. Our foreign policy is woeful as it is and it will only result in non western countries being bombed and more innocent lives being taken by our armed forces, and genocidal regimes being funded by our gov. You can do the sections after Norman Park without brambles/trespassing/fence hopping but probably quite hard to see in the dark to be fair (and very low stakes compared to getting stuck in a sewer!).

I've been thinking over night and just wanted to write one more message. I joined because your videos were giving me some joy in a dark time and, genuinely, thank you for that. Unfortunately, finding all this out and your response has just left me incredibly sad. I'm disabled and have struggled with severe depression and suicidality since I was 19 which I think you can emphasise with. My partner is pregnant and I also want my kid to have a world they can be proud of. It makes me sad because you clearly are a nice normal guy. But if Farage gets into into power our lives, our infrastructure and social unrest will all, in my opinion, get worse. Farage wants to cut benefits, concentrate more money in the hands of the wealthy, gut british worker's rights, privatise the NHS, has no plans to bring utilities under public ownership or introduce right to roam. He would be in favour of harsher punishments for the things you do in your videos. Reform woud also work to accelerate climate change which will inevitably increase migration worldwide as climate refugees flee sinking countries, while making our country's ecological crisis worse. He would destroy all the things that make our country one worth being proud of while celebrating the worst of our past and present. e.g. the crimes of our empire, which he never seems to connect with why people come here. On immigration we clearly disagree, but Farage has a lot of responsibility for the current numbers being so high, brexit removed the E.U mechanism for sending people back to the first safe country they entered and replaced short term migration for jobs with people who understandably want to move here permanently and bring their families. As for the comparisons to nazism it's very clear you're not a fascist, white supremacist or anti-semite but they were the most popular party in Germany and won an election so I can see why people bring it up. In the last month I've seen 2 people shouting unprompted racist abuse at strangers walking past them having never seen that previously in my life. You're obviously not responsible in any way for that but it's part of the context of why reform worry me. 50+ years of neoliberal orthodoxy and rising inequality are to blame for the ills of our nation and I believe Reform will offer more of the same and worse with a different scapegoat. Thank you for the joy and my sadness isn't your fault but this world gets to me and I can't financially support you in this context. I wish you all the best and nothing but happiness for your family. Whilst I do have issues with Reform and the policies, I wouldn't stop supporting Tom because of it. His videos have meant a lot to me throughout the years, bringing me away from the brink with depression and just seeing a different world through his various missions. He continues to have my support, but appreciate others will also do what they like. Tom, just have a think about the repercussions of supporting Reform, you aren't a racist or fascist but many people like yourself may have been swayed by certain things like the reports of small boat crossings over the years... unfortunately we are in a divisive state right now, Labour is falling apart and frankly I don't see another party who could competently take the reins in government. We just need to make sure we don't allow Farage to turn this country into his playground of hate.

Not sure if you realised but the stretch from lewisham till you turned off the river pool followed along the waterway link cycle route which is part of a national cycle route to Eastbourne. It's already pretty off road but wow you went out of your way to avoid a few very short stretches of road. Absolutely loved this series!!! Was so fun watching you bump into obstacles I recognised.

Disappointed to learn that you support a party like Reform UK, which really does say a lot about what your values are and how you view other people. The line about “fundamental cultural differences” is not a great look. You are falling for populist propaganda, and it’s a shame to see. Been a fan since before the first straight line mission and I will miss your videos, but I can't support this.

You should have gone this weekend instead, sewage was marching the streets instead! Banter aside though, I don’t get why you’d give Reform the time of day mate. You’ve traveled loads and seen kindness everywhere, I’m so surprised you’d be behind a party based on division. This is how Hitler and his cronies rose to power. They spread lies, blamed minorities and turned people against each other. Reform is pulling from that same playbook. They would take money from public services and handing it upwards, consolidating power while distracting everyone by pointing fingers at minorities. Trump is doing it in the US, and Farage wants to copy it here. Migrants aren’t the problem. They’re not the reason we’re getting paid less while companies hike their prices. They’re not the ones buying properties as investments so we can’t afford to buy them as homes (there are a lot of foreign investors, but they aren’t often migrants, they don’t live here so they can avoid paying much tax here and they sure as hell aren’t coming on boats). Our birthrate is already below replacement. Without immigration we’d have fewer workers, less tax income, and state pensions falling apart. Migrants are propping the country up, not tearing it down. Farage doesn’t care about us normal people. He just wants us all looking the wrong way. He points the finger at migrants while he and his mates have their hands in our pockets. These kinds of politics have caused devastation before, and I’d hate to see us slide that way again. I know you’re a good man, Tom. It hurts to see you pulled into something like this. Please consider this, maybe even journey with an asylum seeker, learn their story, I promise you’ll think differently.
