MAN VS KAYAK (a rural no roads mission race against Uncle Ed's calamitous kayaking jaunt)
Introducing arguably the most entertaining ever seen on the GeoWizard Patreon page (with the possible exception of the Aldridge No Roads Lockdown Mission).
On Easter Sunday me and Ed took our race series up a notch. For Ed the comfort of the number 8 bus was to be replaced by an inflatable kayak and swift currents, and for me the familiar tarmac of my local area was to vanish from beneath my feet, making way for unfamiliar countryside. Starting in Hopwas near Tamworth (ancient capital of Mercia), we were to race each other 17 miles to the Burton Bridge Brewery in Burton upon Trent (brewing capital of the UK). The first to sip a pint there would be declared the winner. For me the threat of farmers, quarry security and railway workers promised to combine with flooded fields, forests, fences and deep irrigation ditches to make life difficult. For Ed, who had kayaked this stretch of river with me but never actually solo kayaked before, things should in theory be a lot simpler, we thought...

Uncle Ed really is an absolute trooper, he seems like a really fine bloke too. As for the pollution - it's an absolute disgrace. BTW Tom, it would be great if you made this video public - it's a fine adventure, it shows what a hero Uncle Ed is and it highlights a severe pollution problem.

I couldn’t believe it when he saved the paddle, bag, and kayak after flipping over. This was a really fun one to watch. Lots of laughing and cheering on my end.

Great video ! I'm glad Ed is alright. This will make a good story to recall. I just want to share a bit of advice about descending rapids (for the next time). You should always move faster or slower than the water (by paddling forward or backward) to keep directional control. When you move at the same speed of the water, the water decide where you go, usualy straight in an obstacle. Easier said than done !

Poor Ed. That could’ve gone terribly wrong. Did he get poorly from the water after this? It might be worth investing in long range walkie-talkies for this and other Ed/Tom videos, just so you can check in on each other. Would also work well for talking to Verity if you can’t get signal to get a message through in bigger missions
He was fine thankfully! definitely could have gone worse. Walkie Talkies only seem to have a range of 1 or 2 miles but it's something worth looking into!

If not, deffo a must next time (have someone sponsor you a self inflating one if you can). Nice to see my local area, Burton, a shame the pub was closed as it's a proper pub.
