Fallout 4 Mods: Current State of Play, 5/3/24

So things are still at a not-great place in the Fallout 4 mod community right now. Things are broken, things don't work, but it's important to distinguish rumor from the facts on the ground. I've been doing my best in recent days to figure that out for myself.

After a considerably longer than usual update period, Ianpatt and fellow xSE heroes now have a production-level F4SE in release. That should get people to some degree of baseline F4SE functionality in the NG build.

However - and this is where we still don't know a lot of things - the F4SE team is also reporting a lot of instability in the new Fallout 4 update itself. Bethesda appears to be regularly updating the depot, so we almost certainly have more updates coming.. which means further F4SE breaks (though not as serious as this one).

There's a lot of rumbling right now among F4SE plugin devs that changes in the engine are significant enough to force plugin rewrites, and that some of those rewrites may not be practical or even possible.

MCM and XDI updates are currently being worked on, with priority given to anything preventing Fallout: London from being released on the new engine build.

FO4 GOTY is no longer on sale at GOG. However, we do now have a version downgrader tool available that uses delta patching rather than automating a Steam depot rollback, so it doesn't require your Steam credentials or even an online connection. That can take you back to v1.10.163 (pre-4/25 state), and this is probably the best modded FO4 option at the moment.

One of the changes made by the 4/25 update was that Bethesda rolled out a new archive format, updating BA2 to the Starfield version. There is a tool available now to patch support for that into v1.10.163. That should (hopefully) be enough to allow you to use the new update's content on the pre-4/25 install.

Things are developing rapidly out there, but rest assured that a whole lot of people are scrambling hard to make things work again. Please be patient.

Regarding PANPC, PACE, or any other of my Fallout 4 mods, I have not received any reports of problems with the update. However, as F4SE only updated to production last night, that may change going into the weekend. I doubt it but anything is possible.

I have released a new version of APC Home Update that addresses a possible issue with fuel cells reverting to zero trip capacity if for some reason F4SE/MCM isn't working. So if this is happening for you, come grab the new version from the Discord.

Finally, Bethesda is giving away the Fallout 3 GOTY kit via GOG code to Amazon Prime subscribers during the month of May, starting on May 9th. This is not the previous play-over-stream bullshit, but an honest to god GOG download. So if you have Prime, be sure to grab it.

Will continue to update as things happen.

Okey dokey,

G.
