Missed Opportunities

There are a lot of cross-pack missed opportunities in the game. Maxis has historically done a weak job at integrating new features with older packs, and it shows every time a new system gets added in isolation.

I plan to use this post as a running collection of “missed opportunities” mods: small additions that connect systems which should logically interact, but don’t in the vanilla game.

Starting point: Secrets.

While testing, I ended up dealing with the Scandal system. Since my current save is locked to Royalty and Legacy, I worked around it instead of removing it.

As it stands, secrets can only be discovered by:

• purchasing them

• witnessing them

• or using a limited set of specific objects

That’s a narrow design for something that is fundamentally about hidden information. Occult gameplay, in particular, is completely disconnected from it.

So I went back to basics and built the first two mods in this series around that gap.

These mods require the Core Library

Scry For Secrets

(Realm of Magic + Royalty&Legacy - Requires Life&Death for the animation)

Strange that you can have nobility, royalty… even frogs... yet no evil witches.

This interaction allows Spellcasters to uncover hidden secrets by scrying through a mirror.

Unlocked with the Knowledge is Power perk.

Beware: those afflicted by Scrambled Spells curse may not like what answers back.

Extract Secrets

(Vampires + Royalty&Legacy)

Vampires excel at bending minds to their will. Now, they can pry hidden secrets from other Sims.

Unlocked with the Mesmerize power.

Be warned: forcing a mind can have consequences.

Consult the Dead for Secrets

(Paranormal + Royalty&Legacy)

The dead can be persuaded to reveal secrets... but not on command. Unlike other methods, you can’t choose the Sim whose secrets are uncovered. The spirits decide who to speak about.

Unlocks at Medium Skill Level 4, or always available to Necromancers.

A Little Bird Told Me...

(Cottage Living + Royalty&Legacy + Enchanted by Nature [Optional])

Birds observe more than they let on, quietly listening and carrying secrets across the world. Those who earn their trust, or know how to truly listen, can take advantage of their reach.

Unlocks by befriending the birds, or always available to Fairies with the Fairy Insight perk.

Scan Mind for Secrets and Erase Secrets from Sims Timeline

(Get To Work + Royalty&Legacy)

This one took longer than expected.

Aliens are one of the most underdeveloped occults in the game, so I gave them the strongest tools in this series so far.

They can now:

• Probe a Sim’s mind for secrets

• Erase secrets from a Sim’s timeline

On top of that, if another Sim knows they’re dealing with an alien and has a friendly relationship, they can ask them to erase a secret directly.

All interactions added by this mod are grouped under a custom Alien category for clarity. I plan to move EA’s existing alien interactions there as well in a separate package.

The only exception is Ask to Erase Secret, which is placed under Friendly > Gossip.

WIP: I got annoyed by something else while testing with aliens, so it's something unrelated.
