Autonomy Tweaks
Over the past month, these mods have been reworked to remove overrides. Overrides have consistently caused instability after patches, so the goal has been to transition everything to a no-override structure.
This process was still ongoing when the March 17 patch released. That update introduced a new cooldown system, which works by applying buffs that temporarily block certain autonomous actions (for example, limiting repeated computer use).
In practice, this system reduces how often Sims perform certain actions, but it does not improve decision-making. It does not prevent:
Sims from using objects they don’t own (e.g. visitors using your PC)
Contextually inappropriate behavior (e.g. gaming at the hospital, doing push-ups at social events)
Poor priority handling (e.g. rushing to the computer immediately after waking instead of addressing needs)
These mods now integrate with Maxis’ cooldown system rather than overriding it. They extend it by adding contextual restrictions, so autonomy is not just limited, but also more consistent with the situation.
Examples of added logic:
Sims will not swim in cold weather
Sims will not swim in inappropriate venues (e.g. restaurant decorative pools)
Sims will not use computers they don’t own, except in specific allowed contexts (e.g. small businesses, GeekCon)
Sims will not cook if valid prepared food is already available on the lot
The overall goal remains the same: reduce autonomy spam while making behavior more coherent.
Important:
This version introduces a shared resource file. It is required for all related modules to function, as it contains references used across multiple packages.
I'm still in the process of reworking everything so not all previous files are included. I'll add a link to the old files (Legacy Versions) but they're not updated for the March 17 Patch.
All the packages require the Core Library (*)
G-Drive Folder
Legacy Mods (Not Up-to-date For March 17 Patch)
Individual Files
UPDATES:
Added exception to the test in the "Creative Skills" package for bartenders.
Contains resources referenced across all the other files, always required.
Bath - Sims are heavily biased toward taking baths instead of showers, which often leads to inefficient routines, especially in the morning. Bath autonomy is now restricted to after 5 PM or when the Sim is in a highly distressed state, increasing the likelihood of choosing showers during normal daily routines.
Computer - Maxis introduced a global cooldown to reduce computer use, but it does not address context or priority issues (e.g. Sims rushing to a computer immediately after waking or using any available PC regardless of location).
This adjustment limits computer autonomy to after 9 AM and adds contextual checks. Sims will only use computers they own or those placed in appropriate public venues (e.g. cafés, libraries, student commons, GeekCon).
Creative Skills (BG) - Currently applies to painting and guitar (more skills will be added). Sims tend to autonomously engage in creative activities without context: using objects they don’t own or prioritising them over basic needs and daily routines.
This update adds contextual restrictions to make usage more consistent. For example, Sims will not pick up a guitar in public venues (e.g. lounges) unless they are professional entertainers, and will be less likely to prioritise these activities over essential needs or scheduled obligations.
Food and Drinks - Food-related autonomy is highly permissive by default: visitors may grab food or start cooking as if they own the lot, and Sims may begin cooking even when a group meal is already in progress or food is available.
This package adds contextual restrictions to prevent these conflicts. Sims will no longer cook redundantly or treat other households’ kitchens as their own, unless explicitly allowed by specific situations (e.g. City Living “munchies” visitors).
Gaming - Handled separately from general computer use to allow trait and preference-based restrictions. Functions similarly, but with additional checks so Sims are less likely to engage in gaming outside appropriate contexts or when it conflicts with needs and routines.
Gardening - Currently limits visitors from tending gardens on lots they don’t own. No additional restrictions are applied for active household Sims at this stage, as gardening autonomy seems already low. Further adjustments may be added later if needed.
Reading - Reduces excessive autonomous reading and prevents visitors from picking up books. Exceptions are made for keyholders and stay-over guests, who retain normal access.
Rubbish - Prevents visitors from cleaning, stops Sims from repeatedly emptying already empty bins, and reduces excessive rummaging in trash.
Singing - Limits excessive autonomous singing and practice singing, reducing how often Sims engage in these interactions without player direction.
Stereo and Dancing - Prevents Sims from autonomously dancing in inappropriate venues (e.g. restaurants) and stops them from turning on multiple stereos across the lot. Also reduces cases where Sims start playing music while others are sleeping.
Swimming - Prevents Sims from using any available pool without context and blocks swimming during unsuitable weather (cold or rain). Mermaids are exempt from these restrictions.
TV - Restricts excessive autonomous TV and movie watching. Visitors will no longer turn on or use TVs unless they are already on, with exceptions for keyholders and stay-over guests.
Various - Applies smaller autonomy restrictions that do not warrant separate modules. Currently includes:
Blocking “make a mess” interactions on community lots (unless Responsibility is already negative)
Blocking light fireplaces on community lots
Restricting swing use to children or Childish Sims
Adding a cooldown to snow shovelling and leaf raking
Blocking play in puddles, dust piles, or rain (unless child or Childish)
Restricting stargazing to appropriate venues (e.g. parks)
View Art - Prevents excessive autonomous “view” interactions on paintings and sculptures outside appropriate contexts. Sims will only engage in these interactions in relevant venues (e.g. museums, arts centres) or when acting as small business customers. This avoids art viewing becoming the default fallback when other autonomy options are restricted due to its high Fun motive weighting.
Watch Performance - Performance-related interactions attract excessive autonomy. By default, the game does not distinguish between practising and performing an instrument, treating both as equivalent.
This mod separates practice from actual performance for autonomy purposes and reduces how often Sims stop to watch performances.
Workout - Maxis added a cooldown to workout autonomy but did not account for exceptions such as Active Sims or those with the Energetic lifestyle. It also does not address context issues (e.g. visitors using gym equipment or Sims doing push-ups in inappropriate venues like libraries).
This module layers additional restrictions on top of the cooldown system. It limits workouts to appropriate venues, blocks visitors from using equipment, and restricts certain activities (e.g. push-ups) outside fitting contexts. It also adds time-based limits to prevent Sims from autonomously working out at unrealistic hours.
Others
Music Channels Autonomy : Maxis put considerable effort into developing an in-depth Music Preferences system, yet little was done to meaningfully integrate it into autonomy. The tools to fine-tune this behavior have existed since day one, but Sims were never properly instructed on how to act on their stated preferences.
This package adjusts autonomy so that Sims are more likely to turn on a stereo playing music they like and less likely to select genres they dislike. It does not increase or decrease how often Sims use stereos; it only influences which channel is chosen when autonomy rolls.
TV Channels Autonomy : same as above but for TV and based on personality/age instead of preferences.

Hey, thanks for this mod! I've just found a bug. When I want to play football to try out for a football club, the action queue just disappears. My sims can never play football with your mod(the only autonomy mod I have is from you). After deleting your mod, the problem is solved. Hope you can look at this issue :)
Thank you for this mod! I had to remove the Swimming file because NPCs couldn’t get into my Sim’s swimming pool when she invited them to. I assume it’s a bug or I wouldn’t say anything!
hello, i got an issue where bartenders couldn't make a drink in any lots with no clutters or anything blocking it around it... they waved hands everytime and back to idle animation. i did 50/50 to test it and apparently ur creative autonomy tweak was the cause. i'm not sure if there's a conflict in my mods folder that caused it though!
Hello hi, can I still install Faster autonomy less idle with these tuning modes? Thanks
Hello I finally added all the autonomy packages. Took a while, i forget they existed xD Thank you for your work ♥
Would you consider adding the dollhouse to your tweaks? Both that and the swing are always dragging my grown ass sims away from what they’re supposed to be doing. I’m not sure if this is a problem any time the doll house is there or if it’s because they have toddlers and want to play with them but “play dolls” pops up all the time and cancels out whatever I had lined up for them. Even if the toddler is sleeping or at preschool. I’d love it to be blocked entirely unless the child goes and asks them to play. Oh and idk how intricate the “ask for advice” system is but it seems pretty strong on the autonomy and it always seems to be at inappropriate times. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone really address that one yet
Not all heros wear capes. Thank you for making this mod, because lord knows i needed something like this.
I have the same problem, bartender waves his hand around as if path is blocked. I narrowed it down however to the Creativity autonomy part. have other mods installed so maybe a conflict I dont know. I just took out that part for now cause im tired of troubleshooting lol
FFS the tend bar interaction is tagged as a painting skill... you just found a bug in EA tuning, I'll add a fix to the unofficial patch and an exception in that package for mixologists in the test for those who don't want the patch
When i ask for a drink or food with this mod: Zero_Autonomy_FoodAndDrinks, the bartender dont execute the action proprely. Are you have an ideia why? i have other automy mods created by you: autonomus socials, various tweaks and autonomy toggle
That package doesn't affect bartenders at all.
this game has only survived this long thanks to modders like yourself. Literally saving the game with one mod and tweak at a time. I genuinely don't know how much work this all requires and I can only imagine the attitude you may see and get from simmers who don't value what you make and share. I only hope you feel the love from everyone who genuinely appreciates everything you share because it has MADE the game what it is. thank you so so much! it sounds dramatic but some of these tweaks are literally game-changing. thank you! 🤍
You and other modders like you are the reason I still play this garbage-fire game. Thank you so much for everything you do for this community (even when it doesn't deserve it) and for keeping your mods up to date.
Thank you for the update and folder sharing :)
Hii. Can I use this along with your autonomy toggle mod? Does that mod still works? Tysm
Both mod still work and can be used together
If Overrides is written in parentheses, that mode must be placed in the folder Mods/Overrides or can it stay directly in the Mods folder?
It can stay in the mod folder, the "overrides" label is for me to have a priority of updating when a patch drops. It means the mod contains overrides and therefore has priority (plus you need to check for conflicts)
I can't thank you enough! You're a lifesaver!
THANK YOU
THE WORKOUT AUTONOMY THANK YOY SOOOO MUCH!!!! oh my god i FUCKING hate the workout autonomy in this game. your a life saver
Thanks!! I just finished playing a game where I had to confiscate my Sim's soccer ball like a stern Mrs. Crumplebottom.
Zero, thank you so much! You're saving my gameplay in this buggy mess of a game. It would also be awesome to add restrictions for playing with clay and the rubik's cube, talking to the toilet, and that annoying workouts! My sims are literally working out everywhere.
and future cubes :( They literally piss me off. Same with swimming everywhere. Sorry, I know it's a lot of requests. Honestly, I just hate how autonomy works in game.
Some of these sound great. Can't wait to try them. Do you have a stereo mod which allow us to keep sims from turning on the stereo so often, even if no one is sleeping? My current main Sim is obsessed! Thanks so much for sharing all these!
Yep it's in the post (under basegame)
Is it possible to create a mod to stop adult Sims from autonomously playing on the kids' playground from Adventure Awaits?
Not sure, because they both work as routing paths and playgrounds. I'd need to look into it but I removed the EP after extracting the XMLs and I don't own the original version, so I can't test it.
dear god do you have one that limits the sims from making a WHITE WEDDING CAKE EVERYTIME THEY'RE HUNGRY
that would come under the 'Food' mod
do you per chance still have the old version of the autonomy toggle somewhere? the one we accessed from clicking on sims directly? got too used to it and due to a dead drive, lost that golden version
It still works that way. Autonomy toggle is a whole different mod, I didn't notice you commented under the autonomy mods post. The one you're looking for is on curseforge or in the "active mods" collection here on patreon.
I've been having a lot of issues with the game, and all the errors say they're animations related to the Sims' "autonomy." The game crashes on me, or the Sims don't have interaction windows. And according to the AI, it's a game issue, not a mod issue. I just wanted to let you know because the NPC mod also crashed my game. Thanks for all you work, you are amazing!
Which NPC mod? I'm not having crashes, but I'm having problems with the game too (with basically no mods)... do you have some LE so I can look into it?
