Work In Progress - A sneak peek of the skirt...
I FINALLY started sewing the flowers onto the skirt of the Whitby gown today!!! I just have a few more leaves to shape and a few more of the red orchids to make tomorrow and the flower making should be pretty much finished for this one, at least for now. I'll complete the rest of the gown, finish the bodice and sleeves, do any beadwork stuff I want to do and such, and then if I need any more flowers to finish it off I'll pull the tools back out. So far in the images above everything on the left hand side is tacked down and sewn to the skirt drapes/overskirt thing, but I will have to stitch all of the foliage on the right hand side down tomorrow.
I am super relieved to say I love how this autumnal garden explosion of silk looks now I have it half way together 😍 I am way more excited about finishing this costume up now that I am finally seeing the results from weeks spent flower making may just have been worth it!
More to come soon, but thank you for your patience with me as I started to drown under this project. I so easily underestimate how long couture-ish things take 😅

Hi, This is fantastic. I can't even begin to understand what this gown will look like when it's finished. My eyes are trying to tell my brains that it's a trompe l'œil but it clearly isn't. Very nice, I can see the inspiration from the Dutch Still Life paintings you love. My brain didn't believe that the first image was 3D and kept trying to convince me it was painted in that style; you have captured the essence of the originals perfectly. I would refer to it as the Dutch Still Life dress, but if you are wearing it and moving is it still Still Life?
