Early Access // This Week's Video

Hello there! This week I've got the embellished brocade jacket project coming to the channel ✨ I'm working on editing the finale stays/bodice outfit video next, but it looks like midnight me didn't get any footage of embellishing that one at all which is a bummer! That's what I get for making that thing all in one day 😅 I hope you have a great week and I'll see you very soon for the Patreon drafting/sewing video!

The silk I used for the lining is called Tidepool : https://www.silkbaron.com/product_p/52.htm

This Jacket is *chef’s kiss* 🥰 If the Fashion House “TheClosetHistorian” ever sells a jacket like this, I’ll be saving my pennies to buy one, that’s for sure. I’m continually blown away by your talent, imagination and style! Just FYI, to buy silk in Australia starts at AUD$75/m. Buying from Silk Baron is prohibited by freight costs. 🥲. Ah well, one day I might be able to buy silk. I never get tired of watching how you sew the same pattern because each time, there is a twist and I learn something new. Sending best wishes from Down Under 💚💚💚📙🐈🐈‍⬛🌸🌺🇦🇺😎

Thank you Rhonda! Oof those prices are painful, you would think being closer to south east Asia would help with silk prices!! Someone has some export cost explaining to do down there

This jacket is one of those things that look super impressive from afar but somehow gets even better the closer you look. I love the silhouette and the fabric but the embellishments and the flash of blue lining fabric just make it truly immaculate A request/suggestion if you do make another - I think this would look really cool with the outer fabric and embellishments all being the same color, just varying in texture and sheen. My brain immediately goes to black on black with spiders/spiderwebs, but with a day-glo neon lining

Mmmm that combo sounds fabulous to me ✨ Thank you Maeghi!

Anything where smaller things get larger numbers - crochet cotton, needles, beads, whatever - is "we could make this number of the item out of a fixed quantity of materials." So size 10 crochet cotton means "we made 10 threads of a fixed length out of a pound of cotton" and size 80 is "we made 80 threads of the same length out of the same pound of fiber."

Completely agree about UK silk prices, I searched everywhere for silk taffeta for my dream project. Couldn't find very much at all under £45p/m nor could I find the two solid shades of green I needed - decided to try Silk Baron on your recommendation. They had exactly what I need and even with shipping over to the UK, I paid far less than I would have here (my only real option would have been to buy white bridal taffeta & have it dyed but I would have had to do a heck of a lot more saving to afford à professional dyer!!)

I am not surprised!! It really says something that even with astronomical international shipping these days it is still less expensive to order fabric from outside the UK 🤯

Thank you for this close up look for this jacket. It is so beautiful! Every time I watch you bead and sequin something it inspires me to do more with my own embroidery projects. Right now I'm very into learning crochet, but I'm thinking moths and spiders with beading might be in my immediate future. I am so happy to see you getting the fabrics that you love, and to see the confections that you magically come up with. 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤

Thank you Beth! I hope I get to learn crochet sometime, I am a terrible knitter though which doesn't bode well, but maybe simple patterns might not be so bad!

This jacket is just beautiful. I love these colors. The textures and embellishments are so inspiring to me. I am even begining to use more embellishments on my everyday clothes. Now that I have been retired for almost 10 years, I am finally able to relax and enjoy the process much more. I think a lot of that is becaues of you. You make things quickly, but you also make the extra things like embellishments look so easy and doable. So, once again, I thank you for all that you do.

T
The Closet Historian · June 22, 2023

Thank you so much Julie! If time were no object I would perhaps end up embellishing everything, I love it 😂✨

Lovely🖤🖤🖤 I’m digging the close up details :) 2 thoughts: as to your manicure, have you tried stickers? I’ve got a friend who gardens and she SWEARS by her nail stickers. They are repositionable and last about 2 weeks. And seed bead sizes: I believe the number is beads per inch. Thus size 8 is 8 per inch and 15 is 15 per inch, etc….

T
The Closet Historian · June 22, 2023

Thank you Susan! I fear I have just given up on manicures and am quite used to naked nails now 😂 Beads per inch would make a lot of sense!!

Cheryl Rosbak · June 19, 2023

Klimt! That's what was nagging at me. Have you ever made a reversible jacket? Is it even possible with the structured looks you do?

T
The Closet Historian · June 22, 2023

I have never made anything reversible, maybe the green and black housecoat, but even then the green side is fuzzy so I keep it facing my skin 😅 Certainly nothing with beading and sequinning can end up reversible, as that would be quite scratchy and would also result in the work getting snagged and ruined before long I'm sure!

I am sorry that I haven't been able to keep up with the new videos lately. My rabbit Lala crossed the rainbow bridge back on June 8 and it has been hard keeping up. Your projects are always so wonderful.
