Double Princess Seam? A Brocade Blazer
Helllloooo!
You know, sometimes your tattoo artist texts out of nowhere to say they have to move their appointments around and can you come in two weeks earlier than planned? So my own calendar got a bit moved around this last week in response. Hence this video is a day late! I spent most of this last Friday at the shop getting a forever cicada buddy to keep me company from now on, but it meant falling a bit behind on everything else of course.
Still, I am SUPER happy with this jacket and the results of my first experiment trying to create a double princess style line front where the dart fullness is split between the two seams. I want to experiment with this idea further soon, but it may have to wait until I return from London.
Thank you so much for your support this month, I'll be back with our podcast later this week so I'll talk to you again soon!

I came across a double princess dress illustration with pattern layout on Pinterest and thought of you. It was a side seam double princess line with the bottom seam an inverted v directly through the bust point (the dart was essentially a french dart turned into a princess), the other princess seam was more of a parallel style line, doesn’t look like it’s doing any shaping. Hopefully that description makes sense. Really excited to see what else you try, as now I want to give it a go(probably should attempt a single princess first mind).
I am bit behind in videos . Love love love the hair!
Wow! I think this project is one of my favourite things I’ve watched you make. The fabric is wonderful on you and the design details and fit, just absolutely stunning!!
Late to the party but your hair is fabulous <3
Thank you!
Please show the jacket again after finishing updates! Beautiful!🖤🖤🖤🥀
Will do! Thank you Susan!
That brocade is giving me oxidized copper vibes
Your hair is so cute and fun! I hope you like it! Also, based on this suit, the next look book is going to be amazing. What a gorgeous fabric! The shoulder on this is great too.
Thank you!! I've been loving playing in this color palette for sure 💚
No worries, just slow down and have fun. Don't worry about a thing. You could probably travel for free if you didn't mind staying with people you didn't know very well, like you fans/supporters. Not the safest either so maybe no. 💙 Have a Fantastic time on your trip to London!
Thank you Kera! I am shy and very 'safety first' indeed 😅😂
OH! LLOOOOVVVEEEE THE HAIR!
This fabric is giving dystopian vibes with the bronze and blue/green. Stunning work! So incredibly appreciative that you're teaching us all how to make own wardrobes look designer without it costing our first born.
Thank you Rae! The iridescence of the fabric on camera was fun to see while editing this!
DAMN GIRL! AGAIN! YOU BLOW OUR MINDS! That's why we do Patreon, so we can watch PERFECTION! 🥰🫨🫶✌️
Thank you Marcie!!
I second all these rave reviews. You are so much fun to watch. I'm lost a lot of the time but nevermind. I've still learned so much especially about sloper. You look gorgeous with new hair cut. Have a great and a safe trip!
Thank you Rachel!!
I love this and how you are exploring new styles, fabrics and you seem to be enjoying yourself while doing it. That's what it's all about!
Thank you Danielle! I am indeed having lots of fun! ❤
I'm absolutely loving this new artistic period you're exploring. 💜🖤💜 And the new hair and tattoo look amazing!
Thank you Chae! 💜
As you enter your 1980s space admiral phase.... Seriously, it's gorgeous.
Thank you Cheryl! I do indeed like the space admiral look ✨
The haircut is fab!!
Thank you Sara!
I do too!
It looks amazing and I love the hair :)
Thank you! I'm slowly getting used to it 😂
Tailoring improvements: use facing for the front edge. https://blog.closetcorepatterns.com//wp-content/uploads/2019/11/BLOG-POST_-Sienna-Lining-1-smaller.jpg No edgestitching for jackets, it is all done by manipulating the seam while ironing. The lining is biger on the inside in some places to avoid pulling. Increases are: In the center back the back edge of the sleeve in armseye, the bottom of the sleeve in the armseye. in the hem of the whole jacket - here the lining has the same lenght as the outer fabric, but the turned up edge of the outer fabric is longer (just add more to your seam allowance on the outer fabric on the hem with patterning but seam with the usual seam allowance). so once you sew it with your usual seam allowance, the lining edge kind of hangs over the outer fabric edge and then goes back. Also, no darts in the lining, just tucks. Hope it helps.
Absolutely love your new hair cut.
Thank you Erin!
You might have convinced me to do a pixie again!
Ha! I'm still not so sure about it on me, I like it better on day two, when it's freshly washed I feel too poofy 🤣
I love the haircut. It’s sassy. I feel you regarding fabric shopping. Back in the day, I lived a few blocks from Vogue Fabrics main store. It was basically 5 storefronts joined together, so there was the main room, which also had the dollar tables and a remnant section to die for, then the silk room, then patterns, notions, and buttons, then sewing machines, then upholstery fabrics, then drapery fabrics. You could lose yourself for hours, and spend all the money. It was a favorite outing with my daughter, then a child. Alas, mail order has to suffice now.
Thank you Sandi! That fabric shopping experience does indeed sound super dreamy 🤩 We used to have another great fabric shop here called Colorado Fabrics, but they closed a few years back unfortunately ☹
Cute hair, it suits your black shirt and tattoos! The fabric reminded me of 3 things: ancient Chinese hand scrolls on silk (ones with a shimmery gold finish); the copper coloured dress Florence and the Machine wears in one of her videos; caramel sauce artistically drizzled atop a dessert. Yay for your trip and a classical music concert!
Thank you Penny! I shall be listening to "the greatest hits of opera including: Nessun Dorma, O mio babbino caro, the Ride of the Valkyries, plus other much-loved music by Mozart, Puccini, Verdi, Rossini and more." apparently, which sounds rather exciting ✨
I love the jacket. I was happy to learn the technique for interfacing the brocade.
Thank you! I think I'll be trying a simple muslin interlining with my next brocade jacket, to be able to compare which I prefer most ✨🧵
Beautiful fabrics! I am finishing up my bodice block pattern and looking forward to some experimenting too.
I will definitely be trying multiple ways of paneling blazers like this moving forward! ✨
I am excited about your experiments with two princess seams over the bust. I have wondered how to do this since I have a large bust too.
Last winter I made myself a heavy coat, and I am overall very happy with how it came out - but I managed to put the buttons on the wrong side. I keep thinking about moving them, since I could just sew them over the current buttonholes and when it's done up no one would be able to see, but ... ugh. I lack a buttonholer for my machine so I'd have to do the new ones by hand.
Ehhh I call that good enough! 😅 A heavy coat is a big project anyhow! ❤
I can't wait to hear more about London, hopefully soon!
Soon indeed!
Love the new ‘do!!
Thank you Debra!
I wonder what books were added to the library of pattern drafting.
Will do a book haul when they all get here!
OMG! I adore this suit. It is beautiful. I love the design too. The stand collar and the angled lapels. And the peplum swoops. Just gorgeous. Thank you for demonstrating the double princess seams. I am learning so much from your work. Thanks for all you do.
Thank you Pauline! The fabric came alive in a whole new way with the lights on set and I fell in love all over again 🤣✨
What are the new drafting books you ordered?
Too many to list really! I'll make a drafting book haul once they all arrive and put it up here on Patreon!
That brocade is so pretty. I live the way the jacket turned out. Also your hair is gorgeous.
Thank you Ateris! This brocade has stolen my heard so hard 🤩
Love your hair x
Thank you Joanne!
Love the haircut! I too am going to be working on a double princess, as soon as I get back in the sewing room. I plan to do a cut and draw (Shingo Sato method) then draft a version with the bodice block I have, and then compare the two.
Thank you Catherine! Lots of experimenting to be done! I have a lovely tweed in my stash that I think needs to become a double princess version of a Dior Bar-ish jacket sometime for sure
Awesome Deliciousness Indeed!
Thank you Stephanie!
I love your hair like that 😍
Thank you Cara! Good to hear since I'm still unsure about it 😅
I absolutely LOVE your pixie cut. You look so nice..... it gives you a sense of sophistication. With the suits you look lovely.
Thank you Tinesha! I figured it would very easy to style my hair on my trip this way 😅✨
That jacket is fabulous and I LOVE your hair!
Thank you Laura!! I'm definitely still getting used to it 😅
Congrats on the fresh ink!
Thank you!! I love it and finally got to take my saniderm off today wooo!
