There’s something about this video. I come back to it every now and then. Very special.

Thank you Penny ❤️ I love this top pattern so much 🧵✨

Absolutely love the silk & this top. One of my bosses asked me once why I had tattoos when my body is a temple. I told him that my temple deserved nice artwork.

I'm A 59 year old tattooed grandma who has a septum and both nostrils pierced and a full sleeve who also dresses full vintage and I say screw them if they don't like it. I get a lot of compliments and very few negative looks or comments and I kinda feel like maybe they're A little jealous that we choose to live our lives for ourselves and not as they think we should. Fellow ace, by the way.

Hi, I love the top, love the "ramblings" and I love the comments. You have a lot of good commenters in my opinion, for what that's worth (that and ~40 kronors might buy you a coffee here in town). Take good care of yourself. Yours, Ann

Are you filling in the tat with color later, or us it done? Oh! And the silk is MARVELOUS! TY for sharing your tie with us! We are selfish & love watching you sew. We forget your writting is part of what makes you, you & you need to make time for it!

T
The Closet Historian · November 17, 2022

Thank you Marcie! I will having the flowers shaded (black and gray like the leaves lower on my arm) in December! It was 4 hours to have the lines done, so we needed to plan another day for the shading 😅

P
Pilar Roman-Rojo · November 16, 2022

I forgot, are any victorian projects coming?

T
The Closet Historian · November 17, 2022

I was supposed to make a black moire gown in October, but catching covid meant I didn't get to! Hopefully I'll be making it in the new year!

Pilar Roman-Rojo · November 16, 2022

You know, it really puzzles me how arrogant some people are, how they think they have the right to give their opinions on other people's bodies, jobs, and personal choices in general. If you don't like the content just don't follow the creator. We don't care what they think, do we?

Love it <3

T
The Closet Historian · November 17, 2022

Thank you Nicole!

Love the hair, and the shaved bits, and the tattoo. I have a metre of silk that I'd love to make a top out of, and this might be the one, if I can make it work with a directional pattern.

T
The Closet Historian · November 17, 2022

Thank you Cheryl! At least a metre is a tiny bit bigger than a yard, I always appreciated that when shopping the UK ✨

Alexa · November 15, 2022

I love these tops I should try one one of these days with some of the small er cuts I have left. P.s. yes we Brits call them Ladybirds - not sure why but it's the correct way. The. Correct. Way!!!! ;)

T
The Closet Historian · November 17, 2022

Look, they are neither ladies, nor birds, so truly we should all call them Coccinella septempunctata 🤣 Okay maybe that's a /little/ hard to say...

Amie Hamilton · November 15, 2022

I love hanging out in the sewing room with you! And as a beginner sewist, I love watching you go through the simpler patterns as well as the more structurally fabulous

T
The Closet Historian · November 17, 2022

Thank you Amie!

Have you published your books? Plans to? Loved the top. Easy to see why it’s your ‘ every day T-shirt’

T
The Closet Historian · November 17, 2022

Thank you! None of my written work is published at this time. I have to get a literary agent which takes a lot of paperwork, but hopefully one day!

Lone Andersen · November 15, 2022

Gorgeous, as always. It’s mesmerising, watching your videos, and I love your style ❤️

T
The Closet Historian · November 17, 2022

Thank you!!

Raelene Byrnes · November 15, 2022

Oh my...yes to the silk...yes to your sharp AF hair and YESSSS to your beautiful chrysanthemum tattoo....how flipping awesome a fabulous trifecta...(I hate the horse racing industry).....but the word fit🖤🕸🕷🦇🖤🕸🕷🦇🖤🕸🕷🦇

T
The Closet Historian · November 17, 2022

Thank you Raelene!! It feels so good to have properly bobbed hair again

L
Laura Heckman · November 15, 2022

Ooh now I want to make this style top even more, that silk dupioni is fabulous! I always learn a lot from your drafting videos but just hanging out and chatting while you sew is also fantastic, it's so inspiring to see which fabrics and colors you use with which patterns. Don't feel like every Patreon video has to be groundbreaking or different, just seeing what you're working on (and drooling over gorgeous fabric) makes for a really good video. :)

T
The Closet Historian · November 17, 2022

Thank you Laura! I do sort of consider it a duty to try to use mostly super pretty fabric on camera now, it makes the videos more fun to edit as well 😂✨

P
Penny Johnson · November 15, 2022

That was fun, thank you for sharing this extra project and for chatting with us!🥰 You've got a Pola Negri/Asta Nielsen look going on here and the wintery set is reminiscent of those old Liebig German forest scene trade cards. It's so magical, I couldn't believe the thumbnail! The comments you say you get from people who police your work and criticize your choices probably envy your abilities. I get comments that upset me, too, like people telling me how to sit at the piano, or that I should be me (kind of funny now as they don't know me at all, but it hurts.) It's part of the internet experience, I guess. Please don't change, keep on being you!🌟

T
The Closet Historian · November 17, 2022

Thank you Penny! ❤ I can't imagine if people could see how I sit to sew...I have terrible posture 😂 The wintery set feels very much like I have a tiny slice of Narnia in the house, which is extra magical for sure!

Thea Maia · November 14, 2022

So Art Deco with the hair! We are hair twins, except I don’t have bangs. Well and my hair is flamingo pink. Your eye makeup was perfect. I think the lady bug lining was chef’s kiss! Gorgeous new tattoo. Your body, your art. Smart to use the search words to block ever seeing some of the trash that gets spouted. You were adorable in the final reveal!

T
The Closet Historian · November 17, 2022

Thank you Thea! I took the silk as an opportunity to go for a matching eye shadow combo indeed ✨ If only they had bug lining fabric available in every color 🐞

M
Mary · November 14, 2022

Very pretty! Every time I see you make something out of silk I get more and more curious to give that fabric a go myself.

T
The Closet Historian · November 17, 2022

Thank you Mary!

L
Laney · November 14, 2022

The random-grain cut on the peplum is perfect in this iridescent! I don't think I would have thought outside the lines that way, but it works beautifully. (re: ladybugs, my insect biologist friends call them "lady bird beetles.")

T
The Closet Historian · November 17, 2022

If I could get 1.5 yards from silk baron I would for these tops, but they only do whole yard cuts so I have to get puzzley with the peplums anyhow 😂

E
Elizabeth Crick · November 14, 2022

Re: the colored pencils. I've never had good luck with any tailors chalk, limited success with the tracing paper. I've had the best results with cheap chalk from the dollar store for chalkboards. I'm sure some of the purists would faint to hear that but IDC. So you do you and what works in your sewing room .

T
The Closet Historian · November 17, 2022

The best but most guilty marking device in my studio is my white gel pen, the beeest on stubborn textured fabrics ✨😂

S
Susanfuzz · November 14, 2022

Loving the project and new hair! My mom always told me “say something nice or nothing at all” and “no personal questions or remarks to strangers or acquaintances” words to live by, in my book. I have blue hair and get those personal remarks. Every. Day. I mostly say what? over and over, thereby forcing the utterers to repeat themselves until they say forget it. I reply: indeed. It’s pretty satisfying :) You are very brave to appear on camera (although you are so stinking cute!) I’m old and fat… I would never. See you next time!

T
The Closet Historian · November 17, 2022

Thank you Susan! The best comment/moment from when I had long purple hair in university was when I was at the grocery store one time, I was looking at soups and so was a woman with her young daughter in the cart and I heard her say to the little girl "yes, like a princess" becuase the little girl was awed by my hair 😅 which was quite cute!

N
Nia · November 14, 2022

I think I need to buy some dupioni silk 🥴

M
Mary Artberry · November 14, 2022

LOUISE BROOKS HAIR Also I for one like the dreamy sewing footage; it just needs some whimsical music to go with it....

T
The Closet Historian · November 17, 2022

Thank you Mary!

N
Núria Gómez · November 14, 2022

This fabric really goes beautifully with this wrap design! It was interesting to hear about the appearance as a business, I hadn’t thought about that. I came to TCH for the learning and I stayed (also) because of your style, admiring all the care that goes into every detail, from makeup to the set decor (and the rambling) 🖤 which would not shine as much with a dressform. I hope you get some time to write ✨

T
The Closet Historian · November 17, 2022

Thank you Núria! It is a weird (and mostly amazing) job to be visible online for sure. And hopefully writing time soon yes!!

C
Catherine Brown · November 14, 2022

Lovely, love your new hair too

T
The Closet Historian · November 17, 2022

Thank you Catherine!

Cristina Donastorg · November 14, 2022

The new tattoo is fabulous! Now I have the desire to get another floral tattoo myself...

T
The Closet Historian · November 17, 2022

Thank you Cristina! I waited a while to get these so I am super thrilled ✨

K
Kittenish Behaviour · November 14, 2022

It's beautiful 😍

T
The Closet Historian · November 17, 2022

Thank you!

A
Amy Sullivan · November 14, 2022

😑 Ugh! Why can’t people just accept that there’s more than one way to do anything. Ignore the complaints of the pedantic! You are amazing ❤️

T
The Closet Historian · November 17, 2022

Thank you Amy! Normally I can ignore (and sometimes just block 😅) any rudeness, but some days I'm just more annoyed than others 😂

L
Laura Allen · November 14, 2022

This might be my favorite. I love the blue/teal and red combo!

T
The Closet Historian · November 17, 2022

Thank you Laura!

Helga Dís Björgúlfsdóttir · November 14, 2022

Beautiful colour 😍 and love the new hair. Tattoo question: will it be coloured in or just as it is? 😁

T
The Closet Historian · November 17, 2022

Thank you Helga! I will indeed have the flowers shaded (black and gray like the leaves on my lower part) in December ✨
