I didn't know you were asexual. I'm also asexual and have mostly come to terms with the fact that it is very unlikely I will date since most people want something I cannot give them from their partners. I haven't really found much information on how asexual people date. Do you know of any resources on the topic?🙂

T
The Closet Historian · November 30, 2022

I am sadly not aware of any resources! Personally I have sorta the opposite problem, which I figure will be equally weird to explain to people, in that I don't experience attraction but I'm not opposed to participation 🤣 I just don't get "crushes" or feel spontaneous attraction at all. So I would have to be with someone who doesn't mind not being "desired" in exactly the same way as "normal" I suppose. Still, I have also had comments from several partnered ace folks over the years who either have ace or non-ace partners, and who have made it work! So rumor has it all things are possible ✨

I’ve been trying to locate a copy of Butterick 4133 but the cost is $125-$150. It’s a 1940s dressing gown that is so beautiful. Holy moly can this be drafted without pulling hair out? I have photos from the front and back of the pattern.

The Butterick 4133 looks like sosomething Bianca has done before. I would say absolutely!

I live in London, which is why the trip plans are interesting to me!

Hi Bianca, Hope you are well. Just a quick note to say I love the content and it’s inspired me to pattern drafting and I’ve got a few books now to help. I’d love to hear what you are planning to do on your trip as I don’t get out to see much myself and would appreciate the inspiration. Also I believe there’s a 1950s film called living coming out with sandy powell as costume designer. I’ve not seen it but heard that the clothes are very good. Hope you get some writing time soon! Clarita.

The Closet Historian · November 13, 2022

Thank you Clarice! I have heaps of things I want tor try to fit in on my trip, from window shopping at Liberty, visiting my favorite museum (The Wallace Collection), seeing Highgate Cemetery, visiting Oxford for a day, properly visiting Greenwich, the list is hundreds of things long! I'll be making videos of my favorite spots which will hopefully be of use soon-ish!

Hi! I enjoy your content (aesthetic!) and have started doing some pattern drafting inspired by how you approach seeing a look and drafting it to fit you and your style. Had to join after viewing your recent look books and realizing how much effort and materials you put into them. :) I was interested to hear about your struggles to fit in writing and happy to hear that you were able to fit in a small amount of writing. I work full time, currently with overtime, outside of the home and dead tired during the week (medical condition). To get any sewing projects done, I have begun scheduling small tasks during the week, just to have SOMETHING accomplished, ex. find thread, thread machine, mark fabric pieces, apply interfacing. Inspired by Nancy Zieman's Busy Woman's Sewing Guide and 10,20,30 Minutes to Sew (yes, I am older than you and I cried when Nancy died!). I know you have said that writing is a totally immersive experience for you, but since you have been having difficulty finding time for it, might I suggest that although it is not your preferred method, you build on how you were able to write this past month, jotting some things down in spare moments and then putting them together when you have time at the end of the day, or first thing in the morning with your cup of coffee, tea, beverage of choice? Forgive the long comment, just a fan and am an introvert that doesn't talk much i.r.l. but tends to be a bit verbose when I comment! Take care!

T
The Closet Historian · November 13, 2022

Thank you Shannon! Part of the reason I set aside dedicated time for writing is that for me as soon as I open the door, it's either open or shut. So if I write for ten minutes in the morning (impossible, I will get sucked in and be there for 2-4 hours every time, but I digress) I will then be distracted all day long, stopping to jot things down and honestly being effective at neither actually writing or sewing/editing. If I write before bed, I have then got my brain going and therefore can't sleep and will lean out of bed several times to make notes. Writing is an all consuming task for me, therefore it requires dedicated time, it's not just how I prefer it, it's the only way I can get both it and my other work done.

As someone who writes on the side of a full-time job, I know all these feels. If you don't already, follow Delilah Dawson on Twitter. She frequently does AMA sessions on navigating the business. (Also ace high five)

T
The Closet Historian · November 5, 2022

Thank you Mary! I'll have to look into her! Though I try my best to stay away from Twitter entirely 😅

I've had better luck with eBay for selling extra clothes and shoes than Poshmark. Also, don't worry about not getting your Edwardian outfit done - you had covid! I am getting over a sinus infection and if I finish the wearable mockup for Stephanie Canada's walkaway dress challenge in time, that's good enough for me. I'm just glad I managed to grade from a 32" to a 42" bust as a first time patter grader, and it fit!

T
The Closet Historian · November 5, 2022

Thank you for the tip! And good work! I need to make a walkaway pattern from my blocks sometime next year ✨

So appreciate your work and your videos. Please take it at a pace that is sustainable for you! Much prefer shorter, less frequent videos from a happier you, than more frequent videos from a stressed-out you. :-) On the subject of real estate (my favorite topic aside from sewing), I recommend talking to (or "interviewing") several realtors before choosing one to work with. When I looked for a realtor, I found several (even realtors recommended by friends) that were definitely not for me, and I did find one who I chose to work with and who has been fantastic. I recommend looking for someone who jives with what you are doing and seems genuinely helpful & supportive.

T
The Closet Historian · November 5, 2022

Thank you Kimberly! It will be interesting to try and find someone to work with on the east coast when I am still here in Colorado, might be a travel heavy summer for me next year 😅

This year my hubby and I went as Nadja and Laszlo from What We Do In The Shadows, and I made most of our costumes. I followed your vampiric silk blouse tutorial for my shirt, with a mod for a tie collar. Also after copying a pattern from his suit vest I followed your vest tutorial for construction steps. Both turned out great, and I'm so thankful to be learning from you! In response to your comment on not wanting to disappoint - you make way more content than the other creators I support, and I don't expect anyone to work so much that they can't take weekends or vacation. And knowing how much better writing makes you feel, I would gladly take fewer videos if it gave you time to do it! I hope our support allows you to take care of your whole self 💜

Thank you so much Alicia ❤️ I'm glad the Halloween projects came together so well! 🎃🕸️🦇

You sound just like the tech entrepreneurs that I work with, except you are introspective. Being a one-person business is real tough. Keep up balance as best you can and we'll always be here for you!

Girl take a break!! Google adsense is paying you peanuts so a break in the algorithm pattern won’t mess you up so much! And we’re all here for you!! I love when the content creators I support take breaks. It inspires me to rest also!

T
The Closet Historian · November 5, 2022

Thank you Eleanor! I'm just so close to my subscriber goal over on the channel 😅 I can't break pattern now 😂

Poshmark is super easy to use!!! And you can sell so many different items. They take care of shipping charges. I it give it a huge thumbs up. 👍

Please look after yourself. Take time out, you really do not have to constantly account for your time or days to us. We, or me anyway, really enjoy watching your videos, listening to you chatting about whatever, and also perhaps learning something along the way too. Take care please.

What a pleasure watching you grow. You've come a long way since you were working retail way back when. I'm just glad to hear you are still enjoying putting up videos and your sewing. BUT I can not wait for your house/remodeling videos. I know those are in my future! Keep going Bianca. You'll find time for everything.

T

Thank you Merna! I also cannot wait to decorateeeee 😍🤩😍

I wish oodles of writing time for you!💚 The social life department here isn't active either, though my Mom assured me that I shouldn't feel embarrassed about not having many friends. I was at a retirement dinner last night for a colleague and told some of them how I'd just love to have a friend to sing show tunes at the piano with and I got the look of "are you crazy?" So I play and sing for myself! We do our best, but I know what you mean. I am going to mail you a package of Cadbury mini eggs, as we have them year-round in Canada. Think of it as nourishment for your writing time. I figure they ought to arrive by the time you hit 100k subs!

L
Laura Heckman · October 31, 2022

Your colleagues are lame, singing show tunes with friends is the BEST. :)

Oh my goodness! Utica NY is right in my backyard! so sad that the house is gone. Central NY is such a wonderful place to live and work .I am so happy that I moved back from California...best of luck and hope you find that perfect house that is meant just for you !

What places do you recommend checking out in London? I am spending a week there in February (tacking it onto a work trip so they are covering my airfare) and am looking for spots to add to my list. I'm planning to go to the V&A, the Fashion and Textiles Museum, the natural history museum, and the fashion museum over in Bath, but I'd love your suggestions!

T
The Closet Historian · October 30, 2022

The Wallace Collection!!! My favorite museum in London, very centrally located! Also Liberty of London is my favorite of the big famous department stores. I like Borough Market on the southbank for a breakfast or lunch wander. Also Kenwood House in Hampstead Heath. Favorite park is probably Regents Park. Additionally: The National Gallery and the National Portrait Gallery are right next to one another and you are unlikely to see so much great art for free within a few hours as you can there. I liked the Tate Britain Museum (not the Tate modern, I'm not a contemporary art person). The Portabello road vintage shops are awesome to see, as is a wander around Camden market.

As a person who grew up in Upstate NY...Utica (YOU-tick-a) be aware of taxes. Often the mortgage is lower than the property and school tax.

T
The Closet Historian · November 5, 2022

Yes I have noticed the property taxes are nearly the same price as the mortgage would be!! Important facts 😅

Thanks for sharing your struggles with us. Acknowledging that you don’t make enough time for what truly makes your heart happy is an important first step, and I wish you well on your journey of figuring out how to make space for this happiness in your life. Time is truly the most expensive resource we have, and fulfilment is the greatest gift we can give ourselves.

I really feel for anyone living in a country without state health care. I think I would end up with stress related diseases from what I see people having to deal with when they get sick. So sorry you caught the panini, so glad you are back on your feet.

T

Thank you ❤️ and yes healthcare is absurd here 😞

Hey, Being someone on the front lines of immunizing, I really don't understand where the current disconnect is between who is and who isn't eligible for an updated. Just as and F.Y.I. when they released the new bivalent as long as its been 2 months since your 2nd dose or from a booster. Your provider telling you that you are not eligible was a complete fallacy and was detrimental to your health. I'm sorry that you had to deal with that.

T

I think part of the problem was/is with kaiser permanente's website making it all into a twelve step many question process instead of just me being able to walk in to the clinic please. It was a combo of my fault and also their stupid website I feel! No real person said I couldn't have one, but the sign up pages on the website did deny me access. I could have fought harder, and should have. Meanwhile I look forward to getting my next booster in a couple months before I travel for sure!
