Working on my last color-blocked design...

This month I'm slowing down and trying to perfect my "Space Queen" dress pattern. I think it's nearly there, but it still needs a tiny bit more tweaking in the future!

Thank you so much for your support ❤

You are such an inspiration to me! I started sewing @ 8, because I was a little fat girl with glasses in Southern Cali! NO WAY I WAS WEARING GRANDMA CLOTHES! I'm now 60 & find it very soothing to watch you sew so SAAMMOTTH! Would LOVELOVELOVE to see a Lucresia Borgia dress! Season 3 when she was AWESOME! (Est!) Plz don't EVER stop doing the llooonng videos! Learn more from them! You are beautiful in everything you sew! 😇

Thank you Marcie! I have a 1950s version of a Borgia's dress here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1G6iKxbSlWI&t=877s but one day I'll make a proper costume one sure! I loved the look of them even if high waisted is not my favorite on myself.

I too, like this version better. The neckline is very flattering and the change in the blocking is perfect. Love the sleeve effect. The dress reminds me of the old 1930s vampire movies. Don't why, but it does. Again another grand dress from the grand lady of pattern design! Happy belated birthday!

Thank you Bobbie! I have since made the short sleeved version, a summer vampire dress if you will, that will be coming to the channel soon as well 🧛‍♀️

Also thank you for slowing down and explaining the neck facing again. It made way more sense to me this time and I'm happy to have a new technique in my pocket!

The beginning of this video where you are in photo shop talking about why you made the changes you did was SOOO helpful! It really helped me understand the design development process and things to look for on my own designs. Thank you for that!

Thank you Kathy! I'm glad it was useful!

I want you to make the dress in John Singer Sargent's 'Portrait of Madame X'. You'd look the bomb in that silhouette and we'd get to see you doing something a bit different and learn how it was done.

Thank you Patricia! I have a black Edwardian evening bodice on my schedule for October that will hopefully somewhat qualify!

I love this look. Very vampire dramatic. Also I always think of your “blue patterning table of doom” as where the paper gets cut up into all the little pieces 😉. Happy Belated Birthday 🥳 snuggle to the kitties 🐱

T
The Closet Historian · July 22, 2022

Thank you Karla! I suppose since flat pattern drafting is often called "slashing and spreading" it is rather a macabre table where paper goes to be transformed 😂

Love the red dress even more than the black and white one (something I'd never think I'd say as I live for black and white) but the style lines, while with only small changes, make a huge difference. Your new tattoo looks amazing, I love the design and placement and I think it's the perfect birthday present for yourself, as are all the new things you bought yourself for the channel. I can't wait to see you experiment more with the new filters. A happy belated birthday and may it be the best year so far! give the kittens some extra pets from me, they look like they deserve it (because they always do, they deserve it by just being the cutest little fluffballs)

T
The Closet Historian · July 22, 2022

Thank you! The new filters are super fun to experiment with, I hope I can get the look for this next styling video juuust right with their help ✨ The kitties have really been extra extra cute today, so they have been getting all the pets and kisses 😅❤

I like this red version better than the white, it's so dark and dramatic! The new filter did a nice number on your reveal, too. You are ever so clever.

This is officially my favourite thing you have ever made! I cannot wait until my skills are up to making something like this for myself. Thank you 😊

I think the Blue Patterning Table of Doom had to do with it creaking and messing up your audio? Haha it's a fun name.

T
The Closet Historian · July 22, 2022

Everything in my studio is /not/ helpful when it comes to clean audio it's true 😂

I was wondering if you might be interested in showing how to draft a split skirt/culotte pattern from a basic pants pattern. I would love to add such an item to my wardrobe, but am hesistant about how to proceed if I should wish to avoid buying another! pattern.

Toadify · July 20, 2022

I've been wanting to make something like that too! she's more into glamorous stuff and not very experienced with trousers, but it could be a nice new experience and be a more practical inspo project for us people who actually wanna make everyday wear clothes and not vampirespacequeen dresses (they are nice and I watch all the vids tho)
