Ah ringworm! I used to volunteer at the SFSPCA and I treated cats (mainly kittens) with ringworm. I had to have clothes and shoes just for that and take it all off when I got home. I loved doing it and the cats looked so cute all wrapped up like a burrito. I wish I had the time to go back!

Thank you for helping the kitties! ❤

Take the entire month off in December with or without videos! ❤️

Grey's Anatomy was the first time I noticed color being used to influence our opinion of a character. In particular it was with Dr. Shepard's ex wife who is red haired. When Addison is the 'mean ex' standing in her power, her hair is more vibrant and her character has bold lipstick on. When she's meant to be viewed with empathy, her hair and makeup is muted. Ever since then I've noticed how a character is presented to us, by other factors outside of the script and acting, and how this adds an extra level of intrigue.

And don't forget you can check out movies like In the Mood for Love from the library :) maybe even their free streaming services

I'm also interested in practical effects with a camera or my phone camera to make artistic home videos or mini stories on Instagram. I would love to see your process if you ever want to make videos about production.

Sorry to hear about the ringworm! I've been there and it's not fun. But on the subject of female DP's, I agree completely that there aren't nearly enough of them. But the ones that are out there working make beautiful things. The movies that come to mind are Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004), Creed (2015), Neon Demon (2016) Holy Motors (2012). All absolutely stunningly shot films. Also, and I know you have some negative associations with Mad Max: Fury Road, but I could talk for hours about the center/center frame they used so that the female editor could do exactly what she wanted.

Exciting and scary times looking to buy your own home. Yes, it’s a big step, though very worthwhile and rewarding. And I’m sure your parents will have good advice. I do hope you get to spend December writing. You’ll most likely need a break by then just to catch your breath after getting all the content ready for Dec. Sending hugs to the kitties 🐈‍⬛ and good vibes and best wishes from Down Under💚💚💚🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛📚💐🇦🇺😎

Thank you Rhonda! ❤ I'm about 1/3 of the way there 😅 Still feels like a dream and very far away, but I'm also pretty darn determined to make it happen ❤ And determined to take December for writing too, but less sure about making that deadline honestly ha!

My mantra is done is always better than perfect! I loved this week's video, the top is super cute. It's a little funny, this is the second time this week that In the Mood for Love has been mentioned, my bestie recommended I watch it so I'll have to add it to the list.

Thank you!! Yes done is good 😂 It's an experience, I'd love to see it screened in a theater on a big screen someday

A very interesting listen, thank you Bianca! I think what you're trying to learn and achieve (from the basement🥰) about cinematography is just tops and I look forward to your lookbook. A few things you said made me think of related stuff, one being when you mentioned the lack of female cinematographers and anime creators. I've not seen much anime, but I do like Sandrine Revel's comics. She did a book on Canadian pianist, Glenn Gould which I love. I have a feeling you would appreciate her work, such lovely comics and use of colour. Speaking of lovely images and colours, I've been wanting to share this link to a Japanese fabric shop. My friend from school is Japanese and her grandmother used to sew and had the most beautiful textiles. I asked her for a recommendation and she directed me to this lovely shop: https://www.nomura-tailor.co.jp/fs/tailorshop/c/gr89 Also, I know you've mentioned before about dialogue and how you like working on that in your writing, lots of back and forth quotations and such and it reminded me a bit of Hunter Thompson. Granted, the subject matter is probably quite a bit different, but it's very "active" dialogue, for lack of a better word (sorry). Anyhow, have a good night!

Thank you Penny! I only like a handful of anime, but I find it frustrating that it seems like there are 10 wildly amazing ones, and then the rest is soooo not-even-close yikes no thank you no for me 😅 I always love Japanese fabrics so I'll be sure to check them out! I like watching traditional fabric techniques on youtube, NHK (the PBS of Japan) does great mini-docs on artisan goods https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6C8FOifOsA

Are you aware of the podcast I Saw What You Did? Two women of colour talking about film sounds like your kind of thing. Glad to hear the kittens are settling in.

The Closet Historian · August 2, 2022

That sounds most engaging for sure! I'll have to check it out!

I hope you still plan to put up a chapter or 2 from your book on here, I can't wait to read them. Maybe you could even read them to us because like Raelene I could listen to you talk about your passions all day . Hi to the baby's too and I hope they get better soon as bedtime cat cuddles are an essential part of life . I am so glad your little girl is eventually sitting on someone too without needing paper or a fluffy blanket like Eve . Made my day that she has 😊

T
The Closet Historian · August 2, 2022

Thank you Charlene! ❤ Little Sophie has totally decided she loves my dad best, but hopefully she will open up to even more laps in time 😂
