Making A Space Queen Dress
I have returned from my quick weekend jaunt to Moab with my parents and it was really good to show them the landscapes I had fallen for last fall. I'll fill you in on everything else in the podcast, but thank you for your patience and support more than ever as this last month took a turn for the sad.
Here is my latest color blocked project, a bit of a space queen-ish dress that is very fun to wear.
Edit: I forgot to say I hemmed the undersleeves by turning them under and stitching them on the Bernette 35 machine with the faux overlock stitch!

These dresses are *amazing* and so perfectly space opera. I'm definitely adding this style to my project list, thank you for the inspiration!
Thank you!
Obsessed
The sleeves are fabulous! Also, personally, I'll be dubbing the second dress as "The Loki Dress" <3
Thank you Rae!
Holy shirt this is AWESOME!
Thank you Louise!
Great dresses. The sleeves are amazing.
Thank you Bobbie!
You need a black '59 Cadillac Eldorado to go with this, the tailfins would complement those sleeves. Really neat dress!!
I always say I want to have a black 1930's Pontiac made of modern materials with a hybrid hidden in it, so perhaps we can add something with fins to the future past garage as well 😅✨
Happy early birthday to me!! Perfect timing! Tomorrow is my birthday but I am also recovering from a root canal, so seeing this video pop up was such a nice gift. This dress came out amazing! Beautiful as always. Thank you! ❤️
Thank you Beth ❤️🎂 Happy Birthday!! I hope your jaw/tooth is feeling better and isn't too painful!
This is so cool! Love it!
Thank you Julia!
I'm sorry, but I am absolutely obsessed!! Who doesn't want to be a member of space royalty?! Amazing job!
Thank you Chae! Space queen in suburbia 😅✨
Those sleeves are amazing! And I for one definitely do not mind the color blocking one bit. I enjoy seeing such a creative use of specialty fabrics.
Thank you Mary! Good thing two as I've got two more dresses coming up 😅✨
Stunning! Yes this with one of those detachable skirt/train pieces would feel very Evil Empress, in the best possible way. So fun, thanks again for a fun video Bianca!
Thank you Caitlin! Detachable skirts and say...capes would be good additions. I actually have a full length black sateen skirt I could wear over the black one to make it look like a gown actually 🤔
Va va VOOM!!! What an awesome goth space queen dress! A new aesthetic I want to embrace!!! Hugs to you
Thank you Thea! Aim to dress like a noir queen on earth, in the past, the future, and on other planets I say 😅✨
These sleeves!! So amazing!! Dang!! Also this with a sheer floor length voluminous black robe situation would be so space senatorial.
Answering the door for the UPS person with the addition of a star tiara too ✨😂 Thank you!
Holy cow, I have no words for this! A.M.A.Z.I.N.G!! O.o <3
Thank you! ✨❤️
Stunning! Love the double sleeve on top of the colour blocking. There’s always something to learn from your videos. Such as the order of sewing, that’s the but that intimidates me and stops me from making patterns. I really do appreciate the time you take to produce these videos, oh space queen. I’m so sorry for your loss 🐾💔
Thank you Mel! ❤️
Oh my yes oh wow...absolutely queenly and elegant...thank you for sharing during this sorrowful time...grace and love to you 🖤🐾🖤🐾🖤🐾🖤🐾🖤
Thank you Raelene ❤️
The technique will better deep in if I see you do them over and over again 😆😆 looooove this!
Thank you Helga!
I couldn’t have said it better than @Me Me…well said! Your videos have taught me so much and I’m appreciative of all that you’ve shown us. This dress and those sleeves are beautiful!! Me loves a bishop sleeve and am learning to be adventurous with colour blocking. Love your creativity. Am hoping that you get time to write and that it helps to ease the sadness. Sending healing vibes and best wishes from Down Under 💚💚💚💐🌺💖🇦🇺😎
Thank you Rhonda ❤️More writing time coming soon ✨
These are stunning, I LOVE the sleeves!!!😍😍😍
Thank you Nancy!
Please don’t feel bad about using a technique in more than one video. Firstly, I am willing to watch any pattern drafting video you do because it makes the stuff in the HJA book clearer to me. And secondly, I figure that the general rule of being a guest at someone else’s house applies here: don’t criticize how your host does something, just be grateful for their hospitality. You make stuff you like and I’ll just be over here taking notes on how stuff works so I can apply it to my own projects. Finally, I can be a bit slow with visual learning (it took me 10 years to figure out how the purl stitch worked in knitting; I finally figured it out from a well illustrated book of all things), so multiple repetitions of a technique using different applications is a good thing in my books. Thanks for the videos.
Thank you! I definitely learn from repetition, so I suppose it makes sense that is how my brain naturally wants to "teach" as well. For some reason my brain cant catch up that it's summer so I'm still making layered long sleeved space dresses 😅
*screams, cries, swoons as soon as they see that gloriously delicious thumbnail* 💀♥️
Thank you Mary! I can't wait to wear the black dress to dinner and scare the locals ✨
