Ohh!! Yes please to the trench coat!! I've been lusting after a Burberry classic trench forever, but who in their right mind buys a $1,500 raincoat?? I also think it would be cool if you did a cost breakdown, like a cross between the Alexander McQueen and Carmine Gown videos.

Wonderful as always!! I’m itching to try this with my patterns. Does color blocking work with curves? Could you do circles and other curvy bits? Thank you!

It definitely works with curved lines, but I have never tried full circles, mostly becuase sewing circles is a bit difficult to get perfect in general 🤣 Depending on the size of the circle it may be easier to just applique them on.

Tyvek fabric has come a long way since the wallets of the early '00s. I had no idea. I've used cupro lining and I love it; it's made from cotton waste, so it's more sustainable than nylon as well as easier to work with.

Working with the cupro was so much nicer than usual rayon lining so I am converted!

Blade Runner (80s) here we come! WOW! Love the jacket with the red skirt. All looks were great. Can't wait for the trench coat.

From what I was able to gather: To make a jacket, you go one size up from block pattern, to make a coat, you go two sizes up. To accommodate for thickness of fabric (especially when lined) and for clothes worn under them. That would mean 1cm on the sides and half cm almost everywhere else per size (on the pattern, so overall 4cm of ease for each size). That is what I was told to use as ease.

My husband walked by as you were doing the reveal and he stopped and said, "Wow, that is very cool!" He went on to say that he dated a woman many years ago that dressed with unusual fabrics and designs and he loved all of the versions you made. Apparently he also dated a woman who made rubber dresses as well. So now you have two fans in this home! All of the versions came out beautifully and that jacket is amazing. You can wear that with just about any skirt or pair of slacks and look great. It can be dressed casually or formally too. Great piece and congrats! You can find some jacket tailoring videos on Bernadette Banner's You Tube channel. Look under videos and there is one called 'Tailoring Thrifted Finds' and another called 'Pad Stitching'. Plenty of advice in those two. Both are from two years ago, but they aren't hard to find as she doesn't put out a video each week. Hope this helps!

The whole jacket is amazing. The peplum part of the jacket, the way it was structured, creating its own kind of bell shape, and the interesting cut out near the bottom front closure, was so incredibly executed. I love it!!

Thank you Kimberly!

This is so cool looking! I also found it really helpful seeing how you made this shape of garment, as it's one I really love and would love to make for myself some day. I'd also love to see some trench coats.

T
The Closet Historian · April 24, 2022

Thank you Luciana! I ordered a (okay bit weird) fabric for making trench coat soon!

Your style lines are better than the Mugler!

T
The Closet Historian · April 24, 2022

Look here now 🤣 Thank you but I assure he is/was a true master!

Penny Johnson · April 20, 2022

I'd never seen a Thierry Mugler design until I found your channel, but now, every so often I watch his Fall/Winter 1995 show which has some black suits and cool hats. They're really intense, even kind of intimidating, yours, too. I'm sure he'd have been pleased to know that his work influenced you!

T
The Closet Historian · April 24, 2022

Thank you Penny! I love watching his shows, there are some stunning suits in the fall 93 collection as well https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8lguEHnqAw&t=513s but really it's true of most of his shows. As a lover of skirt suits, his designs are just dreamy!

Loved it with the red skirt! Wow, you go so fast, but I've been here long enough to follow which makes me feel unearned accomplishment, LOL

Thank you Ingrid!

Normally I can follow when you’re drafting and moving darts…but this was 🤯 lol This jacket turned out awesome! Makes me want to try some color blocking in my own sewing.

T
The Closet Historian · April 24, 2022

Thank you Mary! My brain feels a bit scrambled lately, so I haven't been doing my best explaining either which doesn't help 😅

The jacket looks so good!!!! I literally gasped when you changed into the holo skirt 😱

T
The Closet Historian · April 24, 2022

Thank you Elanor! The holo skirt is intense for sure 😂
