Early Access // Stretch Pencil Skirts

Hello all! I am about to record the updates podcast, but as I get myself organized here, I also wanted to share one of next week's videos with you. I'll have the color blocked jacket to match last week's skirt coming to the channel tomorrow, and then this video on stretch pencil skirts will be up on the channel for all on Thursday.

And don't worry, I am working on some properly vintage 1940's designs next from the butterick catalog book, so some less wild materials will be coming soon as well. Thank you for your support and I'll catch up with you in the podcast ❤️

Love this, Bianca!! So neat to see you working with all these crazy fabrics!! I'm curious, what is your opinion on twin needles (for stretch fabric finishings/coverstitch approximation)?

T
The Closet Historian · April 28, 2022

Thank you Eleanor! Alas I have no opinion, as I have simply never used one before. I'll admit I usually only try a new tool if I can't work out any other way to make something work, if I can get close with what I've got...I'm good lol

I had a friend give me her old coverstitch machine when she upgraded. I admit I don't use it as much as I should especial since I have a few knit patterns I like (Charm Patterns Barbie comes to mind).

I wish I could rent one from the library or something for the few knit projects I ever do 😂

These look amazing! Personally I am here for the demystified sewing and pattern drafting, the vintage styles are a bonus. I learn a lot watching.

I absolutely adore the black lips and the eyes are gorgeous! I’m making one of these skirts this week even if only to wear on the couch lol. They are beautiful! Mwah and big hug! 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤

T
The Closet Historian · April 28, 2022

Thank you Karin! They are very couch ready due to the the comfort of stretchy!'

I would be interested in seeing what the flared skirt would look like with a deep flare in the center back. It would require a seam line but could be very dramatic.

I actually grabbed this Norma Kamali skirt on super sale to investigate how "luxury" labels finish and stitch this kind of fabric, and the seamlines on her gored version are very flattering and nice. Plus it's constructed with straight stitch! It's still got the elastic waistband, but the hem is finished with a sort of fused elastic stuff that I don't know how is glued on there 🤔 https://www.mytheresa.com/en-us/norma-kamali-holographic-jersey-midi-skirt-1815426.html

These look lovely on you. Love all of them especially the flared skirt. Alas, I don’t have the figure to wear this type of fabric unless maybe I wear several layers of spanx 😜 Its coming into winter now and I’m sewing winter knits for the first time with varying degrees of success. Knits tend to be more forgiving than wovens. 😀 Stay safe. Sending best wishes from Down Under💚💚🌺🌸🇦🇺😎

T
The Closet Historian · April 28, 2022

Thank you Rhonda! Yeah knits sizing is certainly more forgiving which is helpful for sure!

work with stretch as it manually moves the fabric as the needle can’t swing but anyhoo. Amazing stretch shiney pencil skirts. A fantastic additional to an incredible wardrobe!

T
The Closet Historian · April 28, 2022

Ah true 🤔 May work for some fabrics but not all, I don't have one to test sadly! Thank you!
