I live in Chicago and we have several FLW homes here, which of course are all beautiful. He spent alot of time in a town named Oak Park and there are two or three of his homes there. One home was changed to a Universal Church and they kept it exactly how it was built. I think the town has an ordinance that his homes cannot be remodeled. Thank goodness for that! I don't know if you know of Dandy Wellington, but he has a YouTube channel and is sponsoring a 'Vintage Cruise' from London to New York in October. The dress request is from 1920s to 1950. You would not have to make a thing. Your wardrobe is perfect for the theme. Alot of YouTubers are going and many are LGBTQ. You can look it up online I think at 'Dandy Wellington's Vintage Cruise'. It sounds like alot of fun. I realize that it might scare you about Covid, but it seems there have been no breakouts since cruising has started up again. Not sure why he is starting this off from London, other than the ship is the Queen Mary 2, and then it ends in New York City. I can't afford it so I'm not going, but it sure sounds fun. Dandy has his own 10 piece orchestra who will be the entertainment for the group. Just a thought. I hope you were able to get some writing done, as I listened to this on April 5th. I turned 70 on April 3, so I am recuperating from a big birthday weekend! Hugs.

We are big FLW and Arts & Crafts movement. Lots of Stickley furniture, stain glass (by my husband) and quarter sawn oak furniture! When we lived on east coast, we attended the Arts & Crafts Conference in Ashville, NC. Absolutely wonderful. Everyone should go at least once. Falling Water in PA is beautiful. I could go on and on, but don't want t bore you. I love all of your videos. Keep up the good work!

Have you seen Morgan Donner working with latex? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Umjr-SYS4kI&ab_channel=MorganDonner

The lobby of the Frank Lloyd Wright hotel still exists! It was taken apart and transported from Tokyo to the Meiji Mura architecture museum outside of Tokyo, where you can still see it. I've been and it's stunning https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meiji-mura

Add this to my travel wishlist!!

Oh my goodness, you referenced FLW’s Ennis House and I was literally just researching this over the weekend for some content I’m creating. He wrote that articulate buildings of this type have their parallel in the music of Bach, which I play. ❤️ My but how Wright’s work does influence so many of us in different creative fields, eh? 😀 Yes, masks are no longer required here in Ontario, either and at least half of the people I see are maskless. Like you, it’ll be a few months before I abandon mine. Hope you and your folks stay healthy. How I do love hearing about all of your creative ideas and visions for future projects. Take care Bianca!

Thank you Penny! If I had to have a "modern" house, I would want a concrete block house. So gorgeous!

Wow, I totally know what you mean about people buying buying architecturally significant homes and turning them into boxes. There was a Property Brothers episode (on HGTV) where they stripped all the walls down to the exterior walls on the first floor of a 1920's Storybook cottage (they are extremely rare!) to make a one room box. All the interior doors had round tops, the walls and fireplaces were recessed panels and the dining room had built-ins on 3 of the four walls. I never watched them or HGTV again.

Storybook or Tudor 1920's houses are my second favorite after Victorians, so I would have been livid watching for sure. I even get mad when people pull out old colored tile bathrooms, some people out here love them, leave those houses for us! 😩

I’m currently obsessed with Charles Rennie Mackintosh and his wife Margaret and their Glasgow roses etc. I love art nouveau and Art Deco, basically elves and dwarves am I right. I think it helps to try new things and techniques with your passion as it helps you keep that interest and teaches you new skills, keeping it fresh. You know Vivienne Westwood first inspired me to sew as things like hers are too expensive for me. Omfg please do more Star Wars!!! I would ditch my husband if you showed up at my door dressed as Han Solo lol 🥰 Good luck writing and have a great day! You inspire me to put that extra effort in daily! Thank you! Maybe go to the local botanical gardens and get some fresh air, it helps me sometimes when I’m feeling the cabin fever.

Thank you Karin! How I wish our botanic gardens were lush right now, sadly here in Colorado all the plants are dead and tan until late May. I think perhaps a trip to the natural history museum may be in order! Especially since I've been stuck doing taxes the last few days which is never fun

Oooh, writing transitions is the worst. I always resort to character POV switches or time jumps.

Did you see Morgan Donner's recent latex medieval gown? Not a fabric I'd want to deal with, but it was fascinating to watch. I know what you mean about needing to keep your hands busy instead of your brain; I've been the same way, crafting and obsessively playing game apps rather than writing.

T
The Closet Historian · March 29, 2022

I haven't watched it yet, mostly becuase I am uninterested in medieval things personally 😅 I know actual latex can be a pain to work with though! I've been playing with latex coated 4 way stretch spandex, which isn't too bad to manage sewing in the usual ways luckily.

If you do end up redoing your Star Wars set, can you record it or take photos of the process for Instagram? I would love to go along for that ride and learn from you :)

T
The Closet Historian · March 29, 2022

I will definitely film that process for a side husselen video yes!

Another magpie over here - I just want to wear shiny things because SHINY! Not because it's supposed to mean anything beyond that or look sexy to onlookers.

T
The Closet Historian · March 29, 2022

Exactly! Give me all the shiny and iridescent things ✨

Michele Moskaluk · March 28, 2022

I completely agree about people buying houses with beautiful historic architecture and turning it into a generic DIY Network or Joanna Gaines style.

T
The Closet Historian · March 29, 2022

It hurts! I can't wait to have a closed floorplan, dark, foreboding, and cozy Victorian with original woodwork 😍🕸🖤

Meant to say, looking forward to both the sci-fi/noir and the Mandragora gown, it's all gorgeous! Yes, to The Matrix, just introduced my kids to it.

I, on the other hand, adore a catcall! I will of course not deign to look at the caller, will shout back an insult and give a two-fingered salute but I will then have a smile on my face the rest of the day. I feel it is wise not to share this information with any builders or scaffolders. Sadly, either manners are improving, or I am "progressing through life" as instances are rarer than when I was in my twenties... If you are interested in intelligent and inciteful conversation around asexuality in BDSM and relationships in general from someone who is ace and wears a lot of shiny latex, I would recommend Evie Lupine's Youtube channel.

P
Puck · March 28, 2022

I feel you on the not wanting to dress sexy thing. As a fellow ace person I still dress like a potato most of the time, partly because at 5.30 in the morning I just don't feel like getting dolled up but also because when I do have one of those rare occasions I do feel like it and actually do it I get cat called which I really don't like nor appreciate. I wish I wasn't so scared of men but sadly enough experiences have made me very wary and not trust them (which is difficult working in a male dominanted industry 😅) I can't wait for the lookbook though after seeing all the sneak previews on IG, but please take your time, I am a simple person and just glad to be here and devour the content when we get it. (Also, this might sound creepy, excuse me for that but I really want to thank you because I had one of my many sleepless nights a few nights ago and put om the butterick video and your voice is just so calming that I actually did fall asleep and got at least a few hours of rest!)

T
The Closet Historian · March 28, 2022

5:30am is never a good time for having to apply glamour! I also, despite having great men in my life, still have that low level fear of them at all times. Always a little on guard, the world tells us to hold our keys between our fingers and stay vigilant after all 😩 Lookbook coming soonish! I keep wanting to add more silly colorblock things that take more time that I think they will, but are also too fun to stop? And as an insomniac myself, I am happy if I can help at all in these regards! ❤

As you discussed it, I could only think “quick and dirty petticoats sounds like a sweet band name”. Even though the last Star Wars series was disappointing, the trailer for the next series about Obi-wan starting in May had some scenes in the trailer that looked like they take place on a dirty future city with neon signs. Kinda Star wars meets cyberpunk. Two great tastes that taste great together? So, your sci-fi costume ideas might be timed well for that.

T
The Closet Historian · March 28, 2022

Yeah when I listened back to this "quick and dirty petticoat" did indeed stick out to me as maybe not my /best/ phrasing ever 😂 I think maybe it's the name of the second album from the beloved punk band "armhole princess" And I am sooo hopeful for Obi Wan, my favorite jedi and a neon space city?! Please lucasfilm don't fail me again ✨
