So fun to see you tackle these more challenging patterns!! The dress is gorgeous! Joking-But-Also-Not, can we crowd fund the Closet Historian rayon fabric production? XD

Thank you Rachel! Maybe one day 😂

I loved this one too. Do you know the name of the book that the person sent the picture of the waist belt draft from?

T
The Closet Historian · March 10, 2022

Thank you Charlene! It's from this book (which is quiiiite pricey 😅) https://www.muellerundsohn.com/en/shop/metric-patternmaking-for-dresses-and-blouses/

I may have found a modern substitute for dress rayon. It was called TENCEL twill. I found some at my local fabric shop, and it is just like my grandmother’s old rayon dresses. Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough for a dress, which is what I was specifically shopping for (I have made a resolution that there will be no more fabric purchases without a project and a near term timeline because I need to use what I have first).

You could be plopped into a 1940s film noir and fit right in. Have you a clam shell hat like the lady on the pattern? So much talent!!

T
The Closet Historian · March 10, 2022

Thank you Penny! I have a similar hat yes 😅 I would have had to curl my hair to get it to stay on though so I didn't go all out 😂

Great video. Enjoyed the process. One of my favorite "modern" patterns! By the way, here in Pueblo there is a gentleman who works on Featherweights, treadles, and any machine non electronic....his name is John Grimmes, 719-545-8337. He is fantastic and affordable!

Thank you Bobbie! Good to know!

Beautiful (as always 🖤) I’m glad to see you stretch your (beetle? moth?) wings :) Staying in a very snowy Taos Ski Valley this week for some disgustingly healthy outdoor activities that I will regret almost immediately! Curling up with coffee and your video trying to stave off the inevitable…

T
The Closet Historian · March 10, 2022

Thank you! I hope you have fun!! It's very snowy here in CO currently, but I get to stay indoors 🥶

Hi Bianca, you look gorgeous in this creation. I am amazed at what can be created by slashing and spreading. Imagine with shoulder pads...hmmm. Nothing worse than blunt scissors. I'd like to recommend KAI 7205 Professional Shears. Mine are serrated to the tip and cut precisely every time. Great for snipping the corners. Highly recommend. Hope you're able to have writing time and recoup. Really appreciate your sharing these videos because I always learn so much. Sending best wishes from Down Under 💚💚💐📚🇦🇺😎

Thank you Ronda! I need to get my scissors sharpened soooo bad 😩😅

This is soooo 1940’s. I wish you would make one with satin batwing sleeves!!!! It is very Rachel from Blade Runner.

T

Thank you Thea! Always going for Rachel's style!

Came out great. It was fun to watch you figure it all out. This waist style is kind of like a 1940s version of a Swiss waist/Swiss belt. That's what this design reminds me of too :) And having lived through the 80s, I feel like Swiss waists and Basque waists had a resurgence in a 1980s format. So I can see why it turned up in that 80s version of that pattern drafting book too.

T
The Closet Historian · March 10, 2022

Thank you Mel! It would be much easier to make a swiss waist shaped separate belt so maybe I need to do that next 😂🖤
