Early Access // Beading a Beetle

I'm going to release this one on the channel on Tuesday evening, but since it's ready you get the first look at the beaded beetles! I'm going to have a flip through a 1940's pattern magazine up on the channel this Thursday as well, and then hopefully I can get the Mandragora bodice finished up for next week. I'm excited to get to this month's holiday bonus video for here on Patreon too, becuase the purple silk for it is singing a siren song at me while I work down here in the studio...

Here in the south west of Western Australia we have a stunning beetle, locally called a jewel beetle...and it is iridescent greens.... from emerald to lime with flashes of purple and orange.... I think if I can find any examples I will message them to you...they are my Bianca beetles now😜😜😜

They are so pretty when you are making them, but I really do think I would scream if I walked into a room and saw one under a table skirt or on a side table. I don't mean to upset you. I am a freak about bugs anytime in the house. I don't mind them outside, but not inside. They are so pretty and sparkley under the lights, but I think I will admire them on someone else. I feel guilty saying this as I always want to copy what you have done. I read the earlier comment about other YouTubers giving you some recognition and it's about time! Your talent is amazing and needs to be seen by as many as possible! Thank you for sharing this work with us. Take Good Care

Makes me want to add beading to my skill list. Great addition to your jewelry box.

Hey B!! Just popping in to say congrats on Mariah Pattie giving you a shout out on her channel!! Kittenish Behaviour mentions you quite often as well. I'm so glad you're starting to get some recognition in the community!! Hope you're keeping well and getting some writing in! Take care, T X

Thank you Tracy! Very sporadic moments of writing, but hoping for more dedicated time next year! ❤

Beading is so fun and soothing and you can get lost in it for hours. Just love these little bead-les!! Adorable and beautiful in various lightings. The moths were fun to watch you make as well. I have been playing with peyote stitch and loom beading this year in my downtime. It's just so chill as far as pursuits go. Good stuff.

Thank you Myra! I totally find beading relaxing, it's a peaceful state zeroing in on a little thing for hours indeed ✨

These are sublime! I want one. I’d love to try making one but me and fiddly jobs requiring a passing degree of patience and dexterity do not equal a successful outcome. However, if you’d like to do a patron give-a-way that I WIN I’m on board with that. Failing that I shall pass the video on to a friend (who is capable) with strong hints as to why she is seeing it. The moth was beautiful but gets a big no from me as moths and jellyfish are my scary creatures.

Thank you Marie-chan! A weird un-fun fact is that technically giveaways are not allowed on Patreon, you can do contests, but not give always? It's rather odd!

Oooh! So excited! I think I’m going to make one for my Christmas tree… right now it’s kind snowflake themed… but the insects have been creeping in :) Thanks for bringing us along 🖤🕷

When it was around, my favorite bead website was Fusion Beads. I think they now have some items on Amazon but I haven't shopped with them yet since that move to Amazon.

I am quite partial to a shop called General Bead on Etsy, and I think they have a physical location in Sand Francisco!

So beautiful! I’m feeling inspired! Here in Australia our national ‘big two’ fabric and crafting chains are Spotlight & Lincraft, at a guess they would be closest to Michaels and Joanne’s. And yes the Scarab is a dung beetle, so it rolls up balls of dung to protect their eggs and rolls them along all day which basically, for the Egyptians, symbolised the transit of the sun across the sky. ‘Khepri’, a sky god with a scarab head was responsible for pushing the sun (Ra) across the sky each day… both cool and gross!

Thank you! I like that they went "like the sun god! cool" instead of "wow buddy, gross" 😂 There are some Cartier pieces that use real ancient faience scarabs that are gorgeous http://theclosethistorian.blogspot.com/2015/02/more-from-cartier-at-denver-art-museum.html

Purple silk. Yum. I also have a problem with bugs in real life 🤣 but would happily wear any of these you have made. Stunning!

Thank you! 💜 It's purple with a dark green iridescence too 😭💚
