Dispatch no. 73 - Updates Podcast

Same as it ever was. Do we think I should have like a truly radical mid-life crisis instead or something similar for the plot? Let me know.

The oil painting grapes tutorial I tried: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3-isaorYvA

The hydrangea I have added: https://www.provenwinners.com/plants/hydrangea/tuff-stuff-ah-ha-reblooming-mountain-hydrangea-hydrangea-serrata

As a definite Vintage Human Being I have my own cruise trousers and you know what, I wear them to Krogers and figure I might just have livened up someone's day (unless of course I accidently run them over with the motorized cart; those things are tricky to drive.

Bianca, please don't beat yourself up. Your projects are becoming increasingly complex so of course they are going to take more time. There are only so many hours in the day, and inevitably some days are more productive than others. Just please know we appreciate the level of creativity you apply to all your endeavors, also the fact you aren't trying to sell us something! Just be your own cool self, that's what we love.

I never notice schedules, I just love the art you make. Also I had killer PMDD and avoided the pill for ages thinking it would make depression worse, as it does in some people, but it's worth trying it if you haven't as for me it doesn't and I just get to take it all month long and skip the whole ordeal. It's so worth it. I'm I feel like a couple years older than you, not sure, but anyway I worked physically debilitating jobs in the past and I have to say it's not worth it to hurt yourself. 💕

Honestly, I found this whole recording very relatable and it was nice having someone to listen to who finds challenge in similar ways. I suspect I'm not alone in your audience feeling this way.

I’m a romantic gothicc Gen Xer that loves Gunny Sax. So Hammer horror / Love Witch yummy. And no original will fit me so I am stoked , and not for trendy reasons. I have loved them for decades. Wish I could have hydrangeas for my house! Love that you have them. Too damn hot and dry. And you deserve all and more. Don’t question that. We all can see how much you work and we appreciate you and your art so much!

Sorry to hear your boss is still being mean to you :( but I'm glad you've at least allowed some time for painting and writing! I know I've said it plenty of times before but I have so little grasp on the passage of time that I practically never notice upload schedules and will be happy to watch the ceiling video whenever it comes out. I was surprised to hear it had been so long since the last update because I hadn't noticed, and I am also surprised that we're so far into August already.

The Closet Historian · August 20, 2026

I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds time bends and folds. Sometimes a month feels like a century and then sometimes weeks pass all in one night, and I guess it's lucky that no one is on the exact same time warp! And yes my boss is still a pain in the ass, I literally need to hire a new one...in a sense 😅 Honestly it would probably be healthier if I actually put Sophia or Oliver in charge.

I know our own personal levels of deservedness can only be controlled by ourselves, but as a patron, I just want to say I think you are incredibly talented and it’s a pleasure to support your work. Also as an aging creative with chronic pain, my word its hard to live up to my own expectations of what I want to create. I’m so here to keep supporting you even if you slow down. I also think the platforms are fucking up the way creators have been working. It’s probably not you as much as the landscape if videos are doing less well.

T
The Closet Historian · August 20, 2026

Thank you! I think I have a pretty serious case of in-built "not enough", like even when I'm happy with a project my mean bully brain is still whispering "could have done it faster though" "could have done this part better" "but you didn't vacuum this week did youuuu" somewhere. And of course, no one else is thinking any of that! It's just meanie anxiety humming and being rude 😩

SueAnne · August 19, 2026

I don't know if knowing the stress-related feelings are "normal" will help, but I related to a lot of what you said as someone who did/does content creation in an outside-the-normal-sphere-of-influencer-ness niche. Being able to keep up with even half of the deadlines one puts on themselves is in itself a feat, especially since that also requires time away from actively creating to refill the creativity well. Hopefully you know your audience is impressed with all you do and make, and we're just happy to be here to watch and support!

T
The Closet Historian · August 20, 2026

Thank you Sue Anne ❤ I get so stuck /inside/ of my darn little brain that sometimes I just can't trust that anyone likes what I make/do/say/am... Brains, so annoying! I guess some folks have a hard time setting deadlines and keeping motivated, and I have the opposite problem, I'm like a mean sports coach just shouting "hustle!" all the time or something 😅

I’m so glad you got some writing in! ✍️ 💖I would love it if you can include an explanation of what body types work best with which blocks (upper + lower body separate vs. torso) in your Drafting Dangerous video.

T
The Closet Historian · August 20, 2026

I am definitely no styling expert, as I have only ever dressed myself, but I have just noticed double ended darts and things without a waist seam don't fit how I'd like on my hourglass frame. It's in the proportions; the greater the difference between measurements (bust, waist, hip), the harder it is going to be to fit a woven with only a few seams. I would say the less dart degree someone needs in a regular standard block, the more suited their shape will be to a torso block and vice versa. But the torso block is very limiting when it comes to designing things from it...I'll cover it all (and rant a little too of course) in the upcoming video I promise!

You've just managed to express why i can never bring myself to sew plain black basics despite the fact i know i need more. The only trousers i have any motivation to sew are ones in mental prints

T
The Closet Historian · August 20, 2026

As someone who has sewn wide leg trousers in a tropical palm tree print that I call my 'grandma cruise' trousers, this is fair.

Have got SO much from your content and I offer this only because I've been watching you since the days of the Lemon Dress and am a massive fan of you. I wonder if you have ever been curious about an ADHD diagnosis..? PMDD and ADHD often go together, because estrogen is essential for dopamine regulation. The *exhaustion* you're experiencing may not be PMDD, it may be ADHD, because the circuits involved in ADHD are responsible for task planning, task initiation, working memory, filtering out background noise and images, and much more. Wrangling yourself to cope without these circuits working is completely exhausting, and it gets evenharder during the luteal phase. I have had PMDD my whole life and it has been getting worse not better. I was diagnosed with ADHD about three months ago and the medication has taken my PMDD from 10/10 to 2/10. The diagnostic journey is not fun, and is expensive, but the benefits of it being managed have been huge, for me. Definitely not attempting some proxy diagnosis here, I'm just someone on the other side of the world who was experiencing very similar struggles. Anyway, sending hugs, and thanks as always for being such a wonderful creator. 🌹

T
The Closet Historian · August 20, 2026

Thank you Taya! Virtual hugs right back. I'm sorry you have to put up with PMDD too, as the instability frankly makes me wonder how I have ever got anything accomplished at all sometimes!! I'm glad the new medication has been so helpful. I have no idea if/what/degree of neurospicy I could potentially be dealing with. It took me like 6 years to even figure out I had PMDD, and only because I started having the couple of oh-shit-not-cool-very-very-dark days each month and booked in to my gp with the symptoms I had been tracking, because it literally felt /so/ chemical to me that I could be totally fine and then for 48-ish hours be NOT FINE. Oofa But I am in the middle of switching health insurance, so I will probably have to go to the doctors soon to get my current prescription re-set up through the new provider anyhow, so I could perhaps ask about the potential combo situation. I want to try and figure out if I could try a little therapy at last too and could get advice on the situation, if the new insurance is gonna be so darn expensive (and it is) I might as well try to feel better!

As always, the beautiful results you achieve in every area (sewing, painting, etc, etc, etc) are worth the wait. No pressure to produce more/faster than your health allows. Some (possibly) helpful mantras: https://pin.it/4e36eOBef

i recommend listening to the latest episode of Amy Odell's podcast "Back Row" with Rebecca Jennings! It gives a pretty comprehensive treatment to the "state of the influencer" (re: fashion) and tl;dr supply outweighs demand, marketing has moved into ragebait, and audience expectations differ by platform. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/matcha-pilates-alo-enters-its-flop-era-inside-the/id1843400835?i=1000783768652 tl;dr to the tl;dr.. there is no guarantee of success with chasing trends. and people do not want to see everyone do the same thing. which is to say, i think you are doing exactly what is right for you. : )

T
The Closet Historian · August 19, 2026

I feel super lucky that I exist outside of the actual influencer economy, as I don't work with advertisers/brands in any capacity! I don't even follow enough traditional 'influencers' to know what is going on over there, but it seems rough 😅 I don't wanna sell anything, I just wanna make cool stuff and teach people to make their own cool stuff ❤

We LOVE you Bianca! (Not TRYING to be ‘creepy’ here but … know how it sounds). I know that I - at least - am living my Goth/Victorian/40’s inspired glamour vicariously through YOU. So, of COURSE we want you to stop being SO hard on yourself. You are a very precious resource! You keep on being you … that’s the creative artist we are here to revel in!!

T
The Closet Historian · August 20, 2026

Thank you Debra ❤ I know it's weird, but it's hard for me to remember/accept that people like my work/me. Which is bonkers, because /I/ like what I make, so statistically it makes sense some other humans out of the 8 billion on the planet might...but the brain!! Brains are indeed super strange

C
Christina Klarenbeek · August 18, 2026

The complexity of your projects have increased without your allowing yourself more time to complete them.

T
The Closet Historian · August 18, 2026

That is 100% correct. A part of my brain, some days only 3%, some days 83%, is simply deathly afraid that my job will disappear and everyone will resent me if I don't produce 'enough' content on a 'consistent' schedule. Which isn't how art works, but is how commerce works...
