What I'm working on this week
As you can see, I am facing the usual sort of delays around here: Picking something too ambitious to create in one week, and cats.
Some of you may have seen the actress Zendaya wore a 1940's dress for one of the press events for the new Spider Man film. Now I have never seen a live action spider man film (oh boy are the Miles Morales animated ones good though!), but where spider web themed fashion is likely to occur, I am watching. The vintage dress Zendaya wore was purchased from a well known vintage seller Amanda of ButchWaxVintage, so I was able to see the details a little better in her photos.
Yet it still took me a full 48 or more hours to realize I should probably capitalize on this pop culture moment and make a recreation of that dress. I tell you, my brain is sure not wired for marketing pals! Like of course I would love a spider web 1940s dress, but a young starlet wearing one is actually the perfect excuse to finally make one and try to get at least 3 extra clicks over in the algorithmic game, oof.
So that's how I ended up sequinning and beading for three days this week and certainly not finishing in time to get the video up by Thursday. I am entirely predicable in the most irritating of ways. I do still have to figure out how to hem a bias cut A-line skirt by myself in the mirror as well, so wish on a star for me or something because that may be a doozy!
Video will hopefully be out on Monday, thank you for your patience and support ❤

Is it going to be a dress or a cat bed? Only time will tell...
Love seeing pictures of your kitties! They are all so cute.
Can't wait to see it! 🕷️
I'm sure this will be worth the wait.
This is where asymmetry comes in handy. You are so good at asymmetric hems! If cutting the hem into asymmetry makes it too short, simply add a second skirt under the first. This could be a pencil skirt with an easy hem. I'm sure you can use one of your black pencil skirts. I can't wait to see it!
Miles Morales movies are worth it. Looking forward to seeing the dress.
Can't wait to see this! But take your time :) I actually can wait. I have hemmed a bias cut skirt by machine stitching around the hem at the height you want the hem. So if it's a 1/2 hem, sew around 1/2 once, turn it up, press it and then hem. I also sometimes baste the turn up before pressing.
got a lazer level for my birthday this year, that + a dressform is probably one of the easier methods! (plus they're pretty cheap!) it looks os beautiful!!!
To be fair, Zendaya is a perfectly reasonable source of inspiration. Also, yes. Spider themed dress for the win! I love your embellished projects. I shall be waiting patiently!
Can’t wait to see it.
You’re ‘working’ on Oliver’s nose!!! OMG … they are just such cuties!! Frankly I don’t know how you get anything done, I can’t make my own bed when my cat is on it … 🤣
I wish you luck on the Hemming. And I can't wait to see the dress. You always have such great ideas!
I did not, in fact, see the dress Zendaya wore but I will go look it up now 😄
Look forward to it. Shouldn't you write What "We're" working on. One must give your supervisor credit, too.
That will turn out so cool though, I just know it. Impatiently waiting for the video (but please take the time you need, I just love the spiderweb fashion. Mostly because I am so done with summer and ready for autumn/Halloween, so this is exactly what I need to see right now) Sadly enough no tips on hemming a bias cut skirt, because I hardly ever play on the bias dress wise (I am wanting to try soon though, now making a pattern)
This dress will be georgous! I'm so looking forward to monday! :-D
I have been collecting reference photos in preparation to do my own spiderweb beading project, inspired by the exact same source! So excited for this one!
I've seen people people using a laser level to see where to hem around a skirt. Or can you lay the original pattern piece over the top to see where it's stretched?
That will be spectacular when finished!! 🖤🕸️🕷️
If it’s a straight hem, chalk line between the doorway and move slowly into the line and turn. It works reasonably well
That is sooo smart!
