The good, the bad, and the Moon

Whew, thank goodness for moon joy this last week am I right?!?

I got a nasty little cold and it stole my voice, making finishing up my foyer decor video impossible because my voice is sort of an important component of the situation. So disappointed but determined, I tried to at least install the "new" (vintage but not antique) light fixture, but when I took the old sconce off the box it looked a little weird to me. The wiring was quite old and there was an odd extra fitting I couldn't understand in the center of the box, so I decided to call my electrician to have it installed. Which worked great, though it did rather triple the cost of said sconce upgrade...oops. Let's just say my own labor is much cheaper, but at least I know now it's installed safely. I was too congested to let it get to me. The electrician also found something more major that needs to be fixed /before/ the roof, but I'll tell you about that later in this month's podcast.

The new sconce is a bit larger and comes out from the wall a lot further, and it feels just that little grander and appropriate for the space. Plus I have a color change bulb in it of course, it is me we're talking about.

So to make use of my delay, in addition to trying to force myself to rest and get well, I am using these extra few days to complete the last area of wall paintwork that I hadn't thought I'd have time for. It's kind of a fiddly section with the archway and corner, too narrow for my full size stencils to even fit taped up fully flat, so I actually just held them up to the wall and traced the design onto the wall in pencil. That does mean this last section will be entirely hand painted. I have the base layer done, so I can layer in the light and shadow, and the tiny gold bits, tomorrow hopefully.

The only good thing about getting sick this last week was that it meant I spent a couple days of actual bedrest with the NASA livestream to keep me company. Watching super brave nerds getting up to science and wholesome fun alike kept me from thinking too much about how sinus pressure was literally making my jaw ache. Luckily voice is nearly back to normal enough I can record the voiceovers I need in order to finish editing the video. Thank you for your patience!

Hi Bianca - I hope you're feeling better! The new sconce looks both elegant and slightly spooky - and I always thought the original one was too small, so this new one is just what was needed. And I hope the Artemis trip to the Moon inspired some new designs - both for decorating your home and sewing! Looking forward to your next video!

The sconce is a little dragon-y friend! I love it! Looking gorgeous! I also enjoyed the NASA livestream last week, combined with the all the Project Hail Mary positivity, it was lovely. I hope you're feeling better <3

First I hope you are feeling better. Nothing like a seasonal cold to knock your socks off. Secondly, WOW. The foyer is looking lovely. So Victorian meets Goth with typical Bianca elegance. The new sconce definitely sets things off in style, and glad you had that electrician look at things, you don't want to mess around with the electrical in these older houses, old wiring spells danger Will Robinson. As always, watching in awe, keep up the good work and take care of your dear self... we can't do without our always enjoyable dose of the Closet Historian!

So sorry to hear your sick, but glad you got your light up. It is beautiful. Love and light to you. Get well soon.

Gorgeous, love the light. Electricians always scare me too with the... (breath sucked in between pursed lips and teeth) "this is dangerous and needs fixing soon" . Courage as Hercule P is fond of saying.

You find the best stuff. The vibe is expanding in a wonderfully-dramatic way. Even the coat rack with the armour jacket from Sanctus. I'm glad you are on the mend.

I’m glad you’re feeling better. Also glad that you went with your gut and had an electrician take care of the electrical trickiness. Sometimes we just gotta pay for that piece of mind. I hope you are enjoying daffodils and tulips and all the good things that come with spring!

I am loving everything about this foyer. And the way the textures flow from room to room is so delicious! I have to agree about that sconce, it's definitely Mushu's cousin. The resemblance is uncanny! So elegant and enlightened. While I'm sorry to hear he found something that takes precedence over the roof issues, I'm glad you had success with the electrician. I'm also glad you're beginning to feel better. Being sick sucks like the vacuum of space. I am also getting over a cold. My throat is so tender and I'm so stuffed up that I've developed an accent... I'm calling it "mumble German". And YAY! ARTEMIS! The drive by trip to the moon was FANTASTIC. I laughed, I cried, I watched too much, too often, lol. I'm so glad they don't try to force them to be super serious all the time. I mean space was MADE for levity! 😁

Loving the new sconce. So productive, even when you're I'll. Take gentle care, we're not going anywhere.

that dragon is an absolute JOY and I love seeing jackets from your channel hanging on the coat hooks.

Love the little dragon, I hadnt noticed that in earlier pics. And BEFORE the roof!? Oof. If you were to do a spons or two, to help cover the cost, no one would shame you.

Where is Mood Fabrics? I don’t even sew anything but Bianca makes me dream about buying beautiful fabrics and making something supremely gorgeous and highly impractical to wear to my stuffy white shoe law firm to horrify the partners. 💕

Moon joy & some rest! Hurra! LOVELY work… & of course the color change bulb 😂… And… NASA has a livestream?! Ooo!! Very cool… I live under a rock apparently, haha, but thanks for that tidbit! And hope you are well soon… 🤞🏻

That sconce is fabulous, I love the Lepidoptera collection on the wall next to it as well. The nerds in my household (that’s all of us, we’re all nerds) paid some close attention to the moon mission coverage, too. It was a welcome respite from nearly every other thing in the news this week.
