A Dotted & Gathered Vintage Inspired Dress
Whew! This still counts as June right...oof π β€οΈ
I'm still stenciling stars and leaves all over my walls, but I hope I'll be back from the forest soon enough. The day I get to move the furniture back into the room will be a very great day indeed. For now I hope you enjoy this simple summer dress!

Such a lovely dress!
Thank you Sarah!
My first rabbit loved to sunbathe even when it was really hot outside. He would lay at the patio door and soak in the sun. I am going to assume the craziness of the kitties is due to sunbathing.
Pets are solar powered or something, such goobers!!
Lovely shape and super fit to this dress. Totally get your writing vibe.
Thank you Deborah!
Have you considered voice acting for audio books for extra income? I just realised today that you've been doing your voice overs for years so you've had a lot of practice.
Thank you Melissa! I don't know how one does such things, but I actually quite like voicework, so I'm sure I would enjoy it β¨
Hi, I'm so glad to hear that you're writing, even if the dress was a biit to speedy for me. Black fabrics do not agree with my screens for some reason. Thank you for the video. Yours, Ann
Thank you Ann!
I actually rediscovered my love for polkadots recently, but only the kind that is a few shades off from each other - the subtle dot. Love the dress! Good luck with the humidity and finding your writing groove. Do you do writing sprints?
Thank you Keren! I do not do writing sprints, or anything too regimented or prescribed at all really. The only reason I don't write constantly at all times is becuase I have to work my (awesome!) day job, take care of myself and cats, and keep this house standing, because when I'm writing I'm so blissed on the thrill of it that I don't even get hungry. When I make the time for it, I will write/edit for 12 hours in a day for days at a time, I love it. I love working in a lot of different creative mediums, but writing is something else, it's the dream. One day I would like to write first and do everything else as more hobbies, but I'm not there yet!
Absolutely beautiful dress. Love love love it. Looking forward to seeing your new room.
Thank you Carmen!
Love the dress and the sneak peek of the living room stencil work! Good luck with the humid heat. It is brutal. Ive had both dry heat and wet heat and always believe wet heat is more oppressive by a mile. Good luck!!!
Thank you Amy! I will miss the dry environment of CO forever more now that I've lost it π
The polka dots made me think of a Lana Del Rey song, whose music you often would talk about in your older videos. Of course, that reminded me of when I discovered your channel at the start of 2021 during what seemed the worst of times. Your videos were such a comfort to me, all by myself. I know someone else recently commented on this. A nice thought. Of course, the dress is lovely!
Thank you Penny! I do love Lana's music but she seems very...interesting as a person π¬π
Thanks, I enjoyed this and the dress suits you. Did you know that the heat in ?NY was so dreadful before you moved?
Thank you Marie! I didn't know it got to the 90+ Fahrenheit quite so many days in a row, but I also think it probably didn't used to a couple of decades ago. It's known as a very cold place to move to usually becuase of the long winters! This is why I want to eventually retire to Scotland...
The gathered bodice really minimizes your bust and waist, or perhaps the ladder climbing has made your torso more slim and trim? I have a big bust and have always lived in fear of gathers on my bodice. Perhaps I will give them a go. I love the "dotted Swiss" fabric. The whole dress is beautiful. Perhaps I will find some "dotted Swiss" in a paler fabric and make one for me. Thank you, you always lift my spirits.
Agree on the choice of inside out. Love what you are doing with the stenciling too, makes a fab backdrop. You were lamenting your AC asthetics - will you apply sticky vinyl leaves to blend it in with the shrubbery? Call it retrofuturist if anybody asks.
Thank you Anita! I think I want to try and make custom slightly steampunk covers for each AC, but I need a break after this room first π₯΅π
Such a wise choice to use the inside of the fabric. It looks so much better! Please give yourself some writing time; your brain clearly needs it and we're looking forward to reading more of it. Stenciling is looking lovely!
Thank you Janet! What I really, really, need to do is set aside some time to try and get a literary agent again, but it's so admin/homework-y grrrr
This dress is beautiful! I love that Oliver is so helpful!
Thank you Concetta! Oliver is very diligent, he never misses work at the cut table π
Ummmm, I know this video is not about the stenciling but holy hell is that fabulous! Also, I was goth in the 80βs and I wore a ton of Paisleyβs, so I think polkadots are totally appropriate for Goth wear or whatever you young kids are calling it nowadays.
Thank you! Sometimes I feel like regular polka dots feel to girly for me personally to wear, even though I do like them! I just want to make sure I feel like a femme fatale instead of just femme ππ§ββοΈ
Love it ! And the sneak peek at the living room too π€π
Thank you JoJo!
My dog, who sleeps on my bed, always has to sleep under a blanket pressed up against me (even in crazy heat). Not the most comfortable for ME but she loves it so I reluctantly deal. Love this dress!
Thank you Katie! They don't know they are little space heaters but oh boy they arrre indeed π
Dress is delightful and definitely a good choice for humid heat. Went to the beach here today in 28Β°C and fully melted. I guess it was a beautiful day or something. Enjoy you're writing times, it really does feel good when the writing mood hits even if it distracts from everything else. β€οΈ
Thank you Sarah! My mom is a beach human and I cannot comprehend, I am a museum vacationer, I don't know how to relax π€£
Dare I suggest rhat, despite the extra cost, employ someone to come and do a quick, basic, clean each week i.e kitchen, bathroom, vacuumetc. it really gives such a different mojo load and keeps you organised and visitor ready.
Maaaybe one day when the house is a little more put together. Half the issues right now are becuase the old laminate and sad floors are so stained and crusty that they are simply unsatisfying to clean, since they look as bad when you finish as they did at the start. I may try saving up for new flooring first π€£
I have a densely coated Pomeranian here in Southern California. He will take his little butt outside and sit in the sun on a 100Β° day. The rest of the time heβll be in the air-conditioned house, sitting on cool packs that I swap out from the freezer. Iβve stopped trying to make sense of it. Love the dress.
Thank you Mary! I think pets might be solar powered, always finding a patch of sun!!
Re the cats: I live in the subtropics, but inland, so it gets hotter here. My *black* cat loves to go out and lie in a dirt patch, in the full sun, in the middle of the day. I don't think he's a fan of winter, unlike me.
Their insistence on solar power is just wild to me!
So happy to hear you got some writing in! Iβm sure your brain appreciates it. Since your July is going to be crazy with house prep and hosting, maybe your July Patreon video could just be some outfits of the day + voiceover. Iβm assuming with visitors you will be going out and about more than usual. Iβd love seeing your wardrobe in daily use.
Also, this side of the fabric is great, I think you made the right decision
I am glad I'm not the only one that'll use the backside of a fabric! Love this look - the mockup was interesting and it works so well in this dress!
Thank you Robyn! The side you like best is always the right side πβ¨
Still June in my timezone!
Gorgeous, as usual. The stenciling is fabulous, too. π
Thank you Kenzie!
I prefer the louder side of the fabric as well. I say do what makes you happy!π this dress is beautiful.
Thank you! The "right side" print was pretty but was only gonna be seen from very close up π
I really like colors in the fabric you picked. I feel like 1940s rainbow/multicolored was always just the primary colors, especially with accessories. Plastiflex especially. I feel like you could go FULLY on theme with 1940s rainbow with this dress. Happy Pride π³οΈβπ
I'm glad you found time for writing, even it was unscheduled. Self care is so important that sometimes brains decide to schedule it for you
Thanks Chae π My writing-brain is breaking down the dungeon walls after being locked away for so long from this damn move. I am allowing myself a little more fiction work as I can and it feel SUPER needed π
My goodness! When did you find the time? Oh, by the way, you know there are maid services who could come and clean for like $75 before your parents come over. That still counts, too! Keep up the beautiful work.
Thank you Thomas! I am so introverted that I don't like strangers in my house π The cats get really scared too, though at least I don't tend to hide under the bed the whole time.
