Upholstering the shield chairs // Sneak Peek
Hello there! I only stapled directly into my thumb once, so far, so I think I'm going okay? I managed to finish one chair today, but I didn't quite get to recovering the seat of the second. My hand simply started to hurt too much after using cheap pliers to remove staples all day. Removing the old staples (hundreds of them) is one issue, removing all the misfired staples (by me, as I go) is quite another, and I no longer love my electric staple gun, as it is so hard to aim the darn thing! Trying to staple into a thin curving channel on an antique chair probably makes the problem worse than it would be otherwise...but still.
At least the dark purple velvet is 100% prettier than the old stained ivory brocade. I decided in the end it would be good to have these chairs, which will be opposite the couch across the coffee table, be finished in purple as well. This is a darker shade than the couch, but similar in tone. Plus green fabrics were just clashing too much with the redder tone of the wood on these chairs, so I thought keeping them warmer would help with the harmony in that regard as well. The velvet looks super dark in the photo above, but it's just that it's rather shiny so it shifts dramatically in the light ✨
The walls are all painted and ready for stenciling now. I'll be pausing a bit to make a sewing project for the next patreon video, but then it will be full steam ahead again to finish this room in time for my parent's and grandparent's visit next month eek!

The chairs are beautiful! You might want to invest in a staple lifter, a tool designed for upholstery removal (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0761XCM9W?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_dt_b_product_details). You still need to use pliers but only after you loosen the staples or tacks. Might save your fingers.
Hi, I'm here to, as fairly usual, give unasked for ideas. My real superpower, except from being able to take a thick stack information and in short order sort out the juicy bits relevant in a lawsuit, and knowing what more evidence is needed to make a case. And get people to go get those evidence, is taking a bunch unrelated things from different sources and aply them in a different context. Doing this small thing makes me happy, as the legal stuff was lost through a car accident 30 years ago. I can still do it, but I have no use of that anymore as I was retired on medical diability back then. So that said, this is my offering. Instead of stapling your hand to the antique, I've seen this conservator of mostly paintings, tacking the new canvas linings to their stretchers. He seems to have a magnetic/ magnetized narrow hammer and some kind of iron tacks made not to corrode. He picks the tacks up with the hammer head. It looks very neat. That's why he uses that method, together with the fact that it's less likely to split the wood of the stretcher than staples. His words not mine. He is very soft spoken, but you can tell that he has opinions about previous conservators having used staples. Especially on antique stretchers, which is in general what he works with. Good luck with that stapler and any necessary injuries in the name of maximalism. The chair looks lovely. Really soft and plushy, if that even is a word. I really am looking forward to Thursday. Yours, Ann
The purple velvet looks beautiful--love it!
Great fabric, I am looking for just that colour, can you share where you sourced it?
Staple guns are the work of the devil sometimes, other times they behave nicely. Gorgeous colour, I love it very much.
Look, you made a chair for Oliver!! LOL. Besides the INFINITELY important cat photos … the chairs will be stunning … even more so with your own blood, sweat and expletives poured into them!!
That looks fantastic! I treated myself to a staple remover (they are cheap) after stabbing myself in the hand with a chisel. Highly recommended
Pretty colour! The smaller of the two would make a great piano chair, nice cushion, low to the ground and no arm rests. Hello to Oliver!
Oooh!!! Prep for a visit by family!! I understand the push & desire to have things «just so»! I hope you all have a wonderful visit 🥰❤️
Hubby made me a staple puller out of an old thin flat head screw driver. Works a treat if you can get someone to bend a curve in one for you.
Love the new look for the chair x
Beautiful chair, fit for a queen! Besides, Oliver approves, so 👍🏾👍🏾
Gorgeous color! I see you once again are using the Purrfect Modeling Agency for your advertising needs.
Beautiful color! I want to cuddle Leo so hard :-)
Oo! So pretty! What a lovely colour but also your poor thumb!
Oh, and Oliver is such a cutie 😁
Oliver approved! 😁
I love that fabric! Good job with that.
Holy bajezeus, those have to be the prettiest chairs I seen! Oliver looks so dapper on his new throne.
One foot in front of the other, at least that's what my dad used to tell me. Remember to give yourself grace with these projects. Everything is looking wonderfully Gothic victorian.
Oh my goodness I love purple and green so much💜💚 the chair looks lovely!
