Leaves in Leaf // Sneak Peek
Hello there! I've been working away on the lounge/library/living room/office and have managed to get the ceiling and two walls painted. The other two walls still need more scrubbing to remove the old sandpapery wallpaper glue before I can prime and paint them as well.
But as I am avoiding /that/ task as long as possible, I started on the ceiling decoration yesterday instead. I will be using a large leafy stencil around the border of the walls and ceiling, so I arranged some of the same leaves into a bit of a ceiling medallion. I first stenciled the shapes in a gold tone of paint, then brushed over each with a gold leafing glue (which I highly suspect is just pva glue?!?). Luckily the glue goes tacky fast so I could tap on and buff away the excess of some (faux) gold leaf! Unfortunately this creates a LOT of gold glitter on the floor below, but it is fun enough in the end I think it is probably worth all the vacuuming.
And since I was already straining my neck all Michelangelo style anyhow, I decided to install the new "chandelier" for this room before I called it a night. It sure is a bit different from a usual more antique style fixture, but while I save up for a real art nouveau chandelier, I certainly think this brass leaf number is fun! Of course I put my color change bulbs in too, because it is me after all.
I'll be putting together a video about the initial work and ideas behind this room's decoration for the channel later this week. I have decided to call this room the salon forêt...aka the salon, becuase that is far more pretentious and absurd than any distinction yet. I hope to get a bit more of the stenciling done today, and some spray painting of things too, so hopefully I'll have more to show you all in this week's video.
Thank you for your support! ❤️

Sorry. You are struggling with the heat. You should consider a low profile ceiling fan, such as this one. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D2XPP1KM/?coliid=IK3LTV3YDFUK6&colid=55V9QPISMZ1L&ref_=list_c_wl_lv_ov_lig_dp_it&th=1 They even have glass shades sold separately that you can put over the bulbs to give it more of the retro look you’re looking for 😊 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DQTQLCXY/?coliid=IY8BZZ1TBY2AB&colid=55V9QPISMZ1L&ref_=list_c_wl_lv_ov_lig_dp_it&th=1
I couldn't sleep so I started to search. I think you could use wall art for your rosettes. Attach then paint to match your decor... Now to figure out how to attach the photos
Ok, I guess I can't attach photos of those I found. Bianca, is there a way to send them to you?
omg, "salon foret" is soooo so good. I love it. your stencils are sooo beautiful, forgive me if you've had to answer this question a lot, but have you considered selling them or the files to make them?
Hi, I was going to ask if you had started using gold leaf and got my answer in the text. It does make a huge difference, doesn't it? It must be so much bother to work with almost upside-down. Did I understand you right in that the gold leaf was mixed in with the glue? I'm sure I'll get the answer on the channel soon. All other gold leaf I've seen being done has been laid on top of an almost brick red or brown-red, if that exist, base, and haven't looked anything like wood glue. It was laid with a special type of flat skinny brush and the guilder passed it over their nose before picking the next part of leaf up with the brush. Every piece of gold was cut into quarters first. Possibly for waste maningig purposes, and making the guilding less unruly. I'm looking forward to seeing your method. Yours, Ann
Gorgeous!! I love the colors though I did cry inside when you said « gold leaf ». I had to remove a mural I did before selling my house…the horror!! It took some next level nonsense; we laughed so hard, and honestly, I would still do it again.
Beautiful and magical! What a wonderful and totally unique home you're creating for yourself. Thank you for sharing it with us!
seeing your beautiful colorful ceilings gives me inspiration to paint my own ceilings something other than white (now I just need the motivation...)
Ooh, this Canadian is digging the fall maple leaves. Do they move in a breeze?
Oooo! I love seeing this all come to life! What a thrill!
That blue is amazing, it's so restful. And the gold leaf medallion with the chandelier, gorgeous. I love it ❤️
Have you ever been to Barcelona? I just went (and am now completely obsessed with Gaudi) and some of the amazing interior architecture reminds me of some of what you’re doing! Especially the Vicens house. I took some pics if you’re interested but also I’m sure you can google!
Gaudi is fabulous!
Oh, I love this!! Your hard work in your house is having a beautiful payoff!
Stunning! I love it!
I love the asymmetry of the ceiling medallion. Art Nouveau is *all* about the asymmetry. I refer to our front room as The Parlour - when it's really my craft room/home office. Mine is a more British Arts and Crafts vibe, in the style of CFA Voysey.
Om gosh! So cool!
Delicious!
Oooooh wow, I'm in love with the intense lapis-and-gold ceiling! 🤩
