Reprise in Gray Minor // A Color-blocked dress

It's similar to the Blade Runner dress, but also, completely different. I return to my favorite gradient tones for a wool dress with chevroned stripes created alongside the angled horizontal princess seam I used earlier in the year on the black/on/black late 1930's dress.

I still feel awful that this video is so late, but thank you endlessly for your patience and grace with me. I am indeed still figuring everything out after such a monumental shake up in my former routines, which were never too healthy to begin with as we all know 😅 I will try and work on my balance this next week, but will also have a video showing some of the antique finds I have picked up over the past few months to furnish my house coming here to Patreon soon ❤

Stunning! I think you may have a touch of that perfectionist, and we all know thats super hard. You have such high standards for yourself and I can't imagine how tough that must be as an entrepreneur as well. But as we all say, please cut yourself some slack! If it helps, name the voice in your head that says mean things like Mildred or Stacy or Dave some kind of name and then go tell them to go kick rocks. That way you can identify that negative talk and be able to fight back! But we are all here with you on this wonderful journey you are taking us on! Love from Alaska!

What a beautiful dress and what a cool effect with the blocks on the sleeve matching the bodice. So nice! Which model of the Chi Iron do you have? I am struggling to find a decent one, irons I have are a nightmare...

T
The Closet Historian · June 12, 2025

Thank you! I believe I have this model https://chisteam.com/chi-professional-iron-13101 and again, it would have lasted me way more that two years if I hadn't dropped the first one onto a hard tile floor uhh several times 😅

Clever title! Summer or winter, I’m here for gray (or grey, as we say in Canada.)

T
The Closet Historian · June 6, 2025

Yes I debated on grey or gray, the US vs the Brits on that one 😂

C
Chae Howard · June 6, 2025

Don't be too worried about going Gray, Bianca. I've been going gray since I was 11 and now it's progressed to the point it's a feature.

T
The Closet Historian · June 6, 2025

It's just surprising how fast the progression marches on 😂

Melody McMath · June 5, 2025

Bianca, that dress is beautiful. I’m thinking of one in cotton and short sleeves for summer. I think shades of purple would be lovely. Thanks to you I have a block, and have been designing my own clothes from historical inspiration. I saw a dress on the book of face that I loved but wouldn’t buy as it is manufactured in China. So I drafted up the pattern, measured and ordered the linen and it arrived today. You inspire me so much. Thank you.

Thank you Melody! I'm so glad to help in any way towards your empowerment with sewing, make all the things!!

ToSewThyself · June 5, 2025

I love the color blocking on this 😍 You mentioned doing it in rainbow 🌈 and now I'm like....ohhhh chevron pride dress?? Always love your videos and especially loving all the kitty content haha. I feel like it's super relatable bc I know several creatives (myself included) who must contend with the cat, dog, bird, rabbit, etc. interruptions when crafting lol 😆 😂

T
The Closet Historian · June 6, 2025

Thank you! Any pride flag could be replicated too, which would be extra fun ✨

Top, pressed the wrong button!! Please go easy on yourself. I live alone also, and there are many days when I don't speak to another person, and then the sound of my voice can be a shock to me!! Please take care. Love the kitties.

T
The Closet Historian · June 6, 2025

I feel like the amount I speak to my cats might be concerning 🤣

M
Marie Eaton-Smith · June 5, 2025

You are doing great. I agree with the other posters too about the pressure you place on yourself. The dress is lovely, and so good to really watch and understand these seams; you explain it all so well.

Thank you Marie!

I'll echo what others have said, since you don't tend to poll us about why we're here and what we're expecting. For what it's worth, I personally am here for whatever videos you deliver, here or on YouTube, on whatever schedule. Each one is a treat and a great way to unwind. And I have already learned so much from you that you've built up massive goodwill with me, which is a big part of why I'm here (on Patreon). I see it as thanks for what you've given more than buying access to what you keep delivering (though that is definitely nice too when it happens). I respect whatever choices you make, but I shan't be dumping you the minute you need a break.

T
The Closet Historian · June 12, 2025

Thank you so much Elizabeth ❤️ I certainly need to give myself a bit more leniency with Youtube and focus on each patreon video and finding more balance otherwise in the future. If I could just get a bit ahead on the channel I wouldn't feel so precarious all the time 😅

From one person who can't stand the heat to another; * hanging up soaked towels in your rooms or just your laundry instead of using a drier cools down the air a bit * On those really hot days where I can't even think straight and still have to sit at the computer, I like to soak my t shirt in cold water und put it on. The body cools down and after it dries (often ca. 30 min) I do it again👍 works better and lasts longer than a cold shower Love your amazing work! 🤩❤ wish you a nice summer🌻🤗

T
The Closet Historian · June 12, 2025

Thank you Theresa! Unfortunately the air here is already so full of water (that sticky humidity woo) that introducing anymore h2o simply invites mold growth I fear 🤣

I also have multiple oversized Star Wars shirts...though I enjoyed the first season of Andor much more than the second

Perhaps you could do more of a teaching video about top stitching? I know you often do it on your makes, but I don't often see it discussed in youtube videos. Perhaps it is more common for 40s/50s clothing? Or maybe you just take that extra step for a nice finish. But I'd love more insight on when and how one might incorporate it into their own sewing.

T
The Closet Historian · June 12, 2025

I mean I think it's actually considered kinda a 'cheap' finish when used outside of utility garments. It's supposed to be for trench coats and denim, not silk and fine wools, so I am more of a rule breaker than a good example to follow 🤣

Keren Berkovitz · June 3, 2025

This is gorgeous. The whole process is magic...despite the fact I've watched you do every step, it's still magic to see the final product. Moreso with all of your managerial staff pawing at the goods while you work your way through the creative process. Do they have their own inspected by stickers? Also - Star Wars is glamorous. Period. Sew your epic nerdy sci fi space opera heart out.

T
The Closet Historian · June 12, 2025

Thank you Keren! I too am still surprised when seams match and I cut something correctly 😂 Too many years of toil, but the practice was worth it!

One of the things i love about your video's is the narration/voice over. The asides are wonderful. This dress is gorgeous, as always. Excellent video. Hugs and pets to the babies.

T
The Closet Historian · June 12, 2025

Thank you!! The babies are zooming, so I'll catch them when they crash ❤️

Sorry Bianca for the long natter at you. I just worry. You are so good and so hard on yourself - and so talented. And I have done a reno and lived in one during the two years it took…. and it is NOT easy!! But I know you need income and I know you are an adult who has been putting herself out there on Youtube for a long time (& I have not!) - so I respect your choices. Even if I do keep voicing worries 🫣😖. Uff. But it comes from caring. So - I will try to look at this like my mother used to with me… I have spoken my mind and I need to trust you and enjoy the content 🥰❤️💪🏻 You got this! And it is SO fun seeing all you do!!

L
Lynne Eie · June 3, 2025

I agree with MysMichelle above. I think keeping the same expectations on yourself may be putting too much pressure? There may be trolls in the background too, commenting and putting thumbscrews on…. Personally - I think Youtube makes it hard to take a break and take it easy…. here is a thought: another channel with kitty cams? Uneditted or is that too risky maybe? Some people like longer format mostly uneditted things just playing in the background. I am not one BUT another Youtuber did this with her house reno (Shannon Makes) and people watch it. So that might be an extra income stream with less work? Or blend the reno and sewing to please the algorithm gods? As in…. some sewing underway… process vs completed project… and then some reno info? Add spooky music and kitty cam shots and it could be fun to watch with perhaps less voiceover editting? Or do more but shorter vlogs? I know you are a pro at this, but your life and the things needing your attention have changed. And there are a lot of us who marvel at your decorating skills just as much as we love your sewing skills.

M
Mysmichelle · June 3, 2025

I I'm going to watch the video but I want to say you're doing great Bianca you've taken on so much and been doing so much and you aren't counting any of it sewing is just one part of your life and now you have a house and animals to care for it give yourself some Grace

T

Thank you Michelle ❤️ The cats really must start chipping in on the chore list it's true!

Ivy Bombshell · June 3, 2025

Gorgeous. It was really worth the effort lining up the stripes on the sleeves. I too have a little sewing buddy now. My cat Plum is fascinated by the whole thing. He's even walked over a garment as I was running it through the machine.

T
The Closet Historian · June 12, 2025

Thank you Ivy! Tell Plum that Oliver does the same, walking around the machine as I sew, and I tell him he makes a terrible window 🥵

S
Sarah Wilson · June 3, 2025

Gorgeous! The chvroned seams are stunning, and definitely have a bit of beetle-ness about them ❤️ Is that a structured head scarf or a hat? Has someone asked this before? It looks amazing

T
The Closet Historian · June 12, 2025

Thank you Sarah! It is indeed just a scarf torn from the extra black wool fabric, about 30 inched square or so, then tied into a little mini turban. I'm growing out an asymmetric haircut and not loving the process 🤣
