It's really nice to catch up and see what you've been up to. My partner and I lived on Coronado the first year we were married, and it was lovely to hear you talk about it again. I miss dinners at Clayton's (because it's pretty empty in the evenings) and their wonderful blueberry pies! It's a busy place during the day, but after dark, you'd be surprised how quickly the island empties out. At any rate, happy belated birthday! I am really looking forward to hearing all about your house-hunting adventures.

Happy belated birthday! I'm definitely voting for a poke around the set. I'm just here to bask in your genius.

A tour of the Sanctus set would be great!

Happy belated birthday! Hope you are basking in the post-sanctus success...it was truly epic. Literally took my breath away!! I hope you are feeling extremely proud of what you've been able to accomplish as a one-woman show

Happy Birthday! I’m glad you enjoyed your trip. And I’m glad you’re getting out with friends for some life balance.

Thank you Melody! I need forced balance, antiquing plans and a new video game are helping me to finally prioritize rest 😂

So glad you enjoyed your break. Your Grandparents sound awesome. My Grandfather was a huge influence and support fir ne and I still miss him terribly. Aaand I still reckon you should just move to the UK and buy a Victorian house over here 😉

T
The Closet Historian · August 6, 2024

Thank you Sam! A weird goal would be to buy some land near-ish a woodsy area in the UK and then build a "new" US style haunted mansion victorian on it just for fun 😅 No problems editing something listed if I build from scratch 🤣

Queer Money has a lot of information that may help with your research.

You sound rested and more up-beat. That break did you good. You should schedule in regular get-aways.

Sounds like the San Diego trip was good time. And extra-cuddly cats are always nice. I would be interested in a behind-the scenes video about the Sanctus set. Even though you aren’t going to be house-hunting in Chicago, I’d recommend allowing some time in your schedule to explore the city before you head back to Denver. The queer neighborhoods are Northalsted and Andersonville, both served by the Red Line. The Art Institute is fantastic and is right by the Loop (the central business district). And if time allows, the Chicago Architecture Foundation’s river cruise is really good.

Thank you Laurel! I'd defintely like to check out all Chicago has to offer, esspecially the art deco buildings and the Field Museum, but extra days=extra hotel money, so I probably won't be able to get too touristy on these upcoming adventures sadly! I need "closing costs" or whatever boo boring

Your grandparents sound like a lot of fun.

I am indeed very lucky in this regard!

On the house-hunting front, have you considered just applying for a digital nomad visa and moving abroad? Like, unless you have a deep and abiding need to live in the US and can’t fall in love with someone else’s version of Victorian, it’s a hecking good option. And you probably make enough to qualify just about anywhere that has one (and is lgbtq+ safe, has good /socialized healthcare, and isn’t actively trying to reenact Germany c. 1930-46)…

Alas, moving 3 skittish cats across the ocean (and possibly having to quarantine them!!) makes this seem extra impossible at present sadly. I also just can't afford it with the extra paperwork and costs of moving all my stuff over the sea. I am too admin adverse and will need to wait until I can afford some kind of lawyer/liaison to just show me where I need to sign and do all the magic 😂

Have you looked into the website gayrealestate.com? It's a directory for LGBTQ real estate agents and other resources. It could be helpful when looking for a queer-friendly city (Not sponsored lol)

On the subject of towns, Peoria, Illinois has sooooooooooooo many beautiful old houses. It feels like half of all of the houses posted by cheapoldhouses on IG are in Peoria. There is also a present and active queer scene, and an international airport. It's also like, 2 hours from Chicago by train? I love a train. I'm not affiliated with the city of Peoria, Illinois. I live in Tennessee, but I've heard lots of good things. That's where I would look if I were looking for a cheap old house in good condition in a blue state. Happy hunting! And a belated happy birthday!

Thank you Chae! It's certainly not off the list! I am really trying to get into the northeast if I can though, shorter flights to London, train rides into New York for Mood fabrics...just have to see if I can swing it as Illinois is certainly cheaper! 🤣
