GOOOOOOAL!
Oh my god, I can't believe it! We hit our second stretch goal just a few hours after the first! The Puppy in the White Lab Coat is breaking out the Valuable Belongings-to-Confetti Converter, the Cat of Mainly Dark Matter is firing up the Quantum Cake Locator, and the Dr. Scorch, the Boiler of Doom, has postponed its Conflagration Across the Nation plans in order to enjoy a festive oil-cocktail.
Each monthly Experiment will now include not only the hilarious essay on the craft and business of writing, but one of my own recipes from the Lab's Mostly Tamed Hot Plate. I've been asked to create a cookbook for years, so here's a baby version! I'll do stews, desserts, cocktails, roast beasts, a little bit of everything, and we'll include high-res fancy-pants photos to coax you into trying the recipe for yourself.
Thank you so much, all of you, I'm just floored and squished to death by your kindness and support. Why is "thank you" only two tiny words? I know how much it means to take money out of your budget every month, and I wish I could just apparate at each and every one of your houses and hug you.
The thing is...I didn't actually think we'd hit those goals so fast? So the next stretch goal, which involves me, Cat Valente, who Congenitally Cannot Draw, creating a comic to go along with the monthly Experiments, is pretty far off.
I want to put in a new goal a little closer to where we are now. So...what would interest you? What would you like to see/receive/get your paws on? Comment and maybe your wish be the next nefarious scheme out of the Lab! (Hashtag LabGoals)
Thank you again. I am squeezing the Puppy in the White Lab Coat so hard right now. Fortunately, she only descends into utter rage when I stop...

As someone who is often lucky enough to consume many of these fine dishes and occasionally ties to recreate them when Cat is Off Being Clever In Far Away Places I pledge to help do my best to ensure Internationally Inclusive Recipes. #metricsystem4EVA
Stupid metric system making me weight everything. Wait, are tablespoons and stuff metric?
Any chance we could get the ingredients list in metric as well as those weird measurement things you use over there? 馃榿
I'm glad to support! And I vote that you do a stretch goal where you are able to give away poetry ebooks or non-fiction ebooks about writing to all of us. Because I would love that! Me, the cat monsters, and the dog-who-thinks-she's-a-cat are bouncing in on things!
I think we figured out something fun!
I'm so happy for you. Your books and blogs have kept me going at so many points, and it's wonderful to be able to give back -- and I think there's a lot of others here who feel that way, too. <3 Also, I'm SO EXCITED about the recipes. I'm one of those people itching for a cookbook, so I'm mentally salivating over here.
I'm excited about that, too! It'll force me to actually write down amounts instead of THROW SUMMA THIS IN I GUESS. thank you so, so much.
You know, instead of twisting yourself into a pretzel to give us goodies, I'd be fine with your just giving us twice monthly blog updates, or fun videos of you and the furry and feathered kids, or whatever you will. Most authors promise a bunch of stuff and life intervenes and then they seem to feel like we feel let down that they haven't been able to get the stuff done as hoped/planned. Speaking for myself, I love your writing so much, and the thought that I can make your writing easier by contributing on this platform makes me genuinely happy.
It's not pretzelly yet. Honestly, when I was doing the Omikuji Project it was SO MUCH WORK (which is why we haven't put any post office related stuff up yet) to get it out the door every month. This all feels fun and easy. I live on a lonely island! Doing Google Hangouts is LIKE having friends...
