Jail time and interior decorating
The crime stuff continues! And with that there needs to be consequences for the player committing crimes. Which means...
Jail time
Most of this stuff will handle very similarly to Skyrim. Being arrested the player will be teleported to a cell in the local jail. There is a bed that gives the player the option to rest or serve out the rest of their sentence. If they serve their sentence time will pass in game and there is the chance they'll lose some skill or experience progress (the skill + XP loss I've set up all the script hooks for but will have to wait to implement until I'm working directly on the skill system).
Then there's the cell door. If the player crouches and goes into sneak mode they'll have the option to pick the lock on the door. Or if they interact with the door while it is still locked it will open up a dialogue tree (I still need to write the dialogue tree and scripting but...) the plan is to let the player bang on the bars to summon a guard. The player will then have the option to bribe the guard, try to sneak attack them or steal their keys, or attempt to seduce them. The seduction I'm picturing a scene with the cell bars still locked and in between the two characters.
Most of this stuff is working right now. I'm about to finish up the cell door basic logic right after posting this. I might not get to these animations for the next build but I'd at least like to get all the mechanics and a basic dialogue tree in place for people to test out.
Interior decorating
And I've been working on with the interior spaces in Redtree. The primary focus was the jail / guardhouse interior because it ties in so heavily with the jail time features. But also the hotel and cafe have started getting some love too! This is the basic layout for walls, floors, major furniture and a quick lighting pass. There's still a whole pile of assets and props that need to be made to flesh out the scenes properly but at least now this is a huge step up from the block out gray cubes everywhere!
Alright, I'm off to go test out those jail cell doors!
