Release Window Narrowly Missed >.>
Let me just start by saying, Visual Studio is a slow mess. Today it kept lagging, crashing, etc.
I was working hard today on making not only the public build, but also the patron builds. However, there was an issue I discovered regarding buffer textures not being cleared if the viewport of the camera is smaller than the camera that "saw" that texture (I know it sounds complicated), had to fix that as well because it had its biggest impact on Android due to devices that don't really have a 16:9 aspect ratio.
In addition to that fixed more things, however, now there's pretty much no time to actually compile the builds for all platforms because that process has to be started earlier in the day. At least this means that we're more prepared than we would've been for next week, the originally announced time for the release(s).
Regarding my previous tasks:
Prepare the challenger event in the bar by adding the scenes in and making sure the dialogue flows smoothly. ✅ added to the game
Prepare an... not sure how to call it without spoiling, but basically there's another animation that I need to add into the bar this month. ✅ added to the game
Extras:
I have a puzzle system that's 90% ready, it can make the game feel a bit more like a game. You only need to match some things to be in the proper order and I made it work not only by mouse but also by keyboard and controller.
Regarding the controller support, I've updated Unity to the new input system which is supposed to require a PhD to get it (at least at first), but I pushed through it because I wanted to fully support Steam Decks and any controllers in the future. Now we're closer to that goal ✅
There were other developments, but I don't want to write too much here.
Unfortunately it appears that since last night the sickness that was supposed to be in its "finishing stages" came back, with symptoms that weren't there before such as a runny nose and the cough getting better and now getting worse again. I don't think I've had a cold that came back with such a vengeance in the last 10 years, so I'm not sure why and how this happened. In fact I don't really remember getting sick for more than a day or two in the past winters.
So in conclusion the universe was kind of fighting me today and it won since there's not enough time for making the builds and everything.
Before I finish, thank you all for wishlisting Malevolent Planet 2D on Steam! It's been really motivating so far and I hope to make all of you happy with a proper version of the game that'll have as little bugs and as much polish & great scenes as possible.
Have a nice weekend and good health!
