Whack-a-Bug

Hello! I thought October had already started, but it seems we're still in September.

(Smash that Wishlist button! /jk)

Over the weekend, I've received some bug reports from my dear patrons for which I'm very grateful. This week I plan on focusing on them and on finishing writing the entire cutscene that involves the village's ending.

Bugs:

  • During the ISA, time doesn't ever change. (that's intended, because the ISA doesn't really have scripted events based on the time of the day and the lighting is also not dependent on the time of day). Maybe I can hide it when you're not in a scene affected by lighting, or at least go through the effort of updating it based on whether you just woke up or it's time to go to sleep?

  • Sometimes the avatar doesn't reflect what the chibi is wearing. This seems to be happening on the first day of the ISA so it might just be an old manual play command for a clothing item. In the beginning there wasn't a system that would automatically equip clothes based on what the chibi is wearing.

  • Some NPCs have their visual gameobject still flipped, so their bodies are looking the other way than the clothes. I'm only aware of Julia in the ISA Garden now, but if I hear about more I'll fix them as well.

  • On Day2 in ISA Classroom/Study room you can't interact with Alberto to give him the parts. This seems to have been caused by removing the interactable area with Alberto, which might have happened during refactoring of the collider areas for all NPCs.

  • The game looks off on non 16:9 resolutions including ultrawide aspect ratios. This was mentioned in the latest status update as well. On mobile Unity letterboxes the game so it'll look fine, but on standalone devices like Windows it doesn't seem to have native integration for that. I have to do more research on the proper way to handle this, because so far I couldn't find anything useful.

  • On Android loading a game might cause a crash? Asked for more details.

I'm also interested in this Unity User Reporting feature. Right now you might have noticed the game asks if you're fine with analytics when you start it for the first time, although I wasn't too happy about having to implement that since many people aren't comfortable with the idea of "tracking" or "analytics", I knew that Unity had some sort of native feature that allows players to file reports directly in the game without having to go on the Discord or send me a direct message.

That feature would make my life a bit easier, all bug reports players file in the game would be sent to me directly so I'll try to implement that. The article I linked goes into more information about it, but I'm pretty sure it only works if you agreed to the analytics thing.

I'll try to implement it before I would release a hotfix with fixes for all previously mentioned bugs, and also do some writing for the village ending cutscene.

That's it for today. Thanks a lot for your support and I wish you a great week!
