Progress towards the final UI for Malevolent Planet 2D
Hello! I'd like to announce today that there's a lot of work & progress being made towards finishing the UI of the game once and for all. The old UI was functional, but it had to go eventually.
Currently my priorities for this week are:
Finishing the UI updates by Friday.
Draw new maps using tile rulesets for the new upcoming content in the village.
Work on cutscenes for the newest content and finish adding all dialogues required for the outdoors part of the village for the stamps gathering quest.
In that order. Ideally, by the end of the week, the new maps meant for outdoors content in the village will be drawn inside the gameplay scenes, all the dialogues for the outdoors part will be done as well, and the UI will be 🧼🫧.
Then we will have a kickstart for the rest of the month to work mostly on animations and art and lighting inside the new gameplay scenes.
Until my status report on Friday, here are some UI transitions I've been working on to try to "prettify" the game a bit. I'm also working on some improvements for the minimap for it to show more useful information, and I've also worked on the quest entry popups to expand vertically if their description is too big to prevent glaring UI issues.
Bit by bit (or byte by byte) the game is getting closer to what it should look in its final state (for the first iteration of Malevolent Planet 2D), even though the content won't be there yet.
