Malevolent Planet 2D - Bugs Bunny
Today I dared to open my Discord and notifications on Patreon expecting to find tens of bug reports, and yet...
Sorry, there's no way to resize that on Patreon it seems.
Regardless of that, I've sent the build to AndyVipEvil, a very dedicated tester for our game. There seem to be some problems most likely caused by Unity in how it handles defaulting to the highest resolution on your display if you had not set a custom resolution before. It seems to default to a too low resolution even though your display might be at least a full HD.
That might be a multi monitor setup issue though and if you set the resolution yourself in options it should work. The idea was to prevent the pixelation of dialogue avatars and setting the resolution to the highest it can be will make the dialogue avatars much crisper.
In other news there don't seem to be issues, or at least issues that I'm aware of so far. I've done two full playthroughs in the 2 days leading up to the release(s) and I hadn't encountered bugs, and there aren't reports over the weekend so hotfixes might not be necessary.
Now there's something I'd like to let you know. This week will have a bunch of national holidays and although I will still be working during at least one of the national holidays, I will take the other days off to experiment more with other 2d animation tools and think how much it would set us back to purchase them.
Based on my experiments with the Spine trial, there are some pretty big advantages to Spine versus my Unity animation workflow and plenty of animations would've looked better had they been animated in Spine, additionally, it seems like it's not that big of a deal to integrate the Spine animations into Unity but I need to run more experiments with how those animations would behave on Android, WebGL and maybe MacOS to make sure we won't run into platform issues.
I will also likely put out 2-3 polls this week based on questions I had for you to get a "gauge" of general interest outside of the content output we have so far (for example personality stats that would act as RPG stats and those would be influenced by choices that can be made thorough the game).
There will likely not be a "FridayNews" post, but worry not as I will still be working and return next week with more updates on decisions that would have appear in the near-future in the game rather than promises of things that you could eventually see in the game.
I wish you a great week!
