The Truth About Electric Towing
Direct Link: https://youtu.be/UmKf8smvGsA
I did several towing tests in the Silverado! How far can it go with different types of trailer? How much does it cost to fuel? Does the efficiency of the tow vehicle matter, or is it all about the trailer? Why does answer have a 'w' in it? Answers to all but one of those questions are in this video!

Great job.
I didn’t see the original but sadly the new one is too many numbers for me. I can’t process them the speed you go and pausing to try to compare each set was kind of annoying 😕
Bravo! Easily one of your best videos. It puts a great many things into perspective. And I agree with BrandEver; if you had time, I'd like to see numbers for additional runs at lower speeds to see how the efficiency changes.
That regen test was surprising. I can explain most of the other results but not that one (yet)
More mass, more effort to stop, more regeneration would be my idiots guess.
I really want to see a video like this but at LOWER SPEEDS. It would be interesting to see the same runs done at 65mph and 55mph, and to see whether there is enough of a range increase to make slower driving worth it when towing.
I did everything at 75 because I would nothing but complaints that I wasn't driving at "real speeds" if I didn't. And also I never 65 myself. I don't know about towing, but I did do a loop in the Silverado (sans trailer) at 65mph and got almost 2.3mi/kWh
Would love to see you test how much charge you could get with a 3000W sine wave inverter generator with a gallon of fuel, to show it as an option for those with range anxiety going to remote places with their EV. Also, how much charge you could get from using solar panels while out camping.
I can already tell you the answer to this using math. Those 3000w generators typically only have 120v, which would limit them to 1200W for car charging. And that's essentially worthless unless you have tons of time. It would take 70 hours to fully charge a 70kWh battery pack from 1200W. And the solar charging will be even more limited unless you're carrying a simply enormous amount of solar panels with you and a 240v inverter
wait, a US Gallon is different from a UK Gallon? which one is "true" imperial?
The imperial gallon is the one used in the British empire, and equals 4.54609 liters. The US use the United States customary units, not imperial units, where a gallon equals 3.785411784 litres or about 0.83 imperial gallons.
This is the sweet spot for me Robert annoyed and confused by things (the DRL thing is bizarre) but not to the point where he’s defeated by it.
When you already have your sunday evening scotch standing next to you and Robert posts a new video. Good times.
FWIW I think you did an excellent job with the numbers. I didn't see the 1st version, but the second version is clear and easy to follow. I appreciate that you present the hypothesis and then back it up with data. You made me understand that I was wrong about some of my understanding of EVs. BTW, My commute is uphill one direction and thus downhill the other. I'm always shocked by how much more energy I spend one direction vs the other. Does my downhill drive recoup (via regen) the energy I lost going uphill? Do ICE cars have the same issue?
Yet more things I want to test! This could turn into a thing if I'm not careful
KICK ASS!
thank u for the science 🙏
Repost!
Haven't watched this yet, and only got part way through the original, but I can't say I had any issues with how you presented the numbers. I will point out that there were at least a couple times when what you said didn't match your graphics, though.
Yeah, the mismatch was just misremembering of lines
