Capcom System Update

CPS development has been progressing much faster than anticipated. I have now most games working and I think I do not longer need to restrain to a single title for the beta. Some of the pending tasks before the beta are:

* Measure bus timing in PCB and compare with core
* Implement layer priority in colour mixer
* Fix ADPCM control bug (same as in Double Dragon 2)
* Add HDMI output (using analogue output now)
* Double clock frequency to avoid sprite glitches (48->96MHz)
* Fix mapper for large games (such as SF2)
* Fix ringing issue in JT51
* Fix address error problem in King of Dragons

I'd like to release the beta when I am not aware of problems or those are small. Anyway, I'll be able to release it this month. So this month's patrons will be the ones featured in the credits for the public release. I am going to re-work the credits screen for CPS as I cannot easily use the game character font as it changes location from game to game. I may go for something a bit more tasty this time. By the way, I have opened up 10 slots for the credits patron layer for this occasion.

Finally, Q-Sound games will not be included in the beta. I need to write a Q-Sound core first. So that will take sometime. Double Dragon 1 public release will be this month if I have time to prepare the files Otherwise, it will be March. By the way, March will mostly be a maintenance month working on reported bugs and issues (for all my cores).

That's all! Working on CPS is so exciting that I had problems sleeping some nights. The system is very interesting technically and the games are, well, awesome. Thank you for being there. Without you, I would have not come this far.

Thank you!

You are the man! Now I don't have to worry about my Final Fight board dying on me, played that game every day on arcade when I was a kid.

It's an awesome title. And surprisingly long gameplay for a ROM size not particularly big. They made a great job compacting the data.

So happy to be backing you... My Arcade 1up cabinet needs some SFII love: Thanks for the hard work you do! Here are the fruits of your hard work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKtapShgQbs

Duck hunt working in the cabinet. How cool is that!

Jose sir, I have a question - will this "https://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php?topic=28073.0" be compatible with your super CPS1 core? Apologies if this is a ridiculous question.....

J
JOTEGO · February 19, 2020

That's an awesome work what they did there! If it's compatible with the original board, it will work on the core too. I'll try it!

Thank you!

You’ve done a great job! Keep up the good work. It’s inspiring.

This is looking awesome! I have a suggestion though, rather then completely blocking games using Q-Sound, why not let them run without audio?

J
JOTEGO · February 17, 2020

That might be an option, yes. They may need different MRA files and it may be better to do all that work at a later stage.

Many thanks for all your hard work and dedication to this project. We are not worthy. :-)

Amazing progress! Does qsound mean we are going to see Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, The Punisher, etc?

J
JOTEGO · February 16, 2020

Yes, but not this month, sorry.

David Ashby · February 16, 2020

Great job Jotego! I’m curious, will you consider making a CPS1 Changer console core in the future?

J
JOTEGO · February 16, 2020

That'd be interesting. I'll have to manage to get one first or get the relevant documentation from reliable sources.

Owlnonymous · February 16, 2020

I am so incredibly excited for this! Original CPS1 hardware is so finicky, so it’s great to have to archived in FPGA. Now I’m going to be the one loosing sleep, as I’m going to stay up late playing all of the games 🤣.

Instantly upped my tier from $3 to $10 :) Thank you for all of your hard work. This is the most exciting thing to happen to MiSTer so far in my opinion.

Outstanding work btw, good luck with everything you’re doing :)

I
Ibrahim · February 16, 2020

Are you planning on including support for the CPS changer release of Street Fighter Zero? It might be an interesting mid point between CPS1 and 2 as it doesn’t use Qsound but it has some overlap with the CPS2 hardware.

J
JOTEGO · February 16, 2020

Thank you for pointing this out. I wasn't aware of that. Let's see if I can get a changer or the relevant information needed.

S
Skutis · February 16, 2020

Thanks alot! I noticed the rotation on the vertical games were default to CCW. Is there a dip switch for using CW rotation in CPS? That is how I have my CRT screen in my arcade cab. It is because Galaga is non-rotatable and CW rotation.

J
JOTEGO · February 16, 2020

I'm not sure whether the games will include the DIP switch for that. If they don't I can trick the flip wire on hardware like I did for the 1943 core. It'll probably work ok.

Dude really was fast, Jotego you're a machine, thanks for the hard work. Every time I'm impressed by this magic of transporting the board to the fpga 😯

J
JOTEGO · February 16, 2020

It's still not perfect but we'll get there step by step!

Amazing work José, Amazing work!!!! I can imagine what you mean by not being able to get some sleep once you get into the flow of such an exciting work!

Awesome progress. Also looking at a small monitor. Any eyoyo you can recommend which works with the mister?

J
JOTEGO · February 16, 2020

I'm not sure of my model. It doesn't seem to have it written anywhere. It cost me less than $100 and it looks quite good. Although not all angles are good.

great job!. But please do not offer sleep for this sake, better sleep well and keep healthy to continue providing more amazing cores as this one in the future.

Tenía curiosidad por saber si estas implementando la cpu Kabuki, porque tengo entendido si no me esuivoco.que Three Wonders ya implementaba este sistema de protección.
