Gloves of the Gadgeteer

These leather gloves feature small nodes of repurposed magical technology. While wearing the gloves, you gain a +5 bonus to any ability check you make using tinker's tools. In addition, you can use your Intelligence modifier in place of your Dexterity modifier whenever you make a Dexterity check with your hands (such as to pick a lock, tie a knot, or tinker with a gadget).

The gnome had been a toymaker, whose fingers danced over cogs and springs to bring forth joy and delight. Loved was she, 'til word of her skill reached even the prince's ears.
He loved not frivolities, but instead the crueler aims her skills could suit. He demanded of her service, a demand her soul would never brook. So he demanded her hands, to ensure—with each bone broken by a torturer's skill—if she would make no weapons for him, she would make nothing at all.
But for one so akin to joy, despair did not become her. If her hands could barely manage the simple tasks of life, she would make for herself new ones for which thought rang truer than simple flesh and bone.
The first were bulky things, caskets for dead fingers, but just enough to make a second. Which were enough for a third, and then a fourth, then…
The last. Fine enough that they were more tuned to the pace of her mind than her true hands—toymaker's hands—had ever been.
