Placing Buildings on a Procedural Planet — Exclusion Volumes | UE5
Procedural planets look great until you want to place your own content on one — a base, a village, a landing pad. The terrain is curved and streaming, so a hand-built structure ends up floating or buried. This update fixes that.
Exclusion volumes flatten the procedural terrain into a genuinely flat pad (toward the tangent plane, not a spherical cap) and clear the foliage and grass, so you can drop hand-authored content straight onto a streaming planet. In this video I place a landing pad and buildings inside an exclusion volume on a planet, and the flatten stays seam-free across chunk borders.
Shipping now in PlanetGen V1.9 and SpaceKit V1.1, along with a depth-tinted ocean and more.

Hey @codelikeme is it possible to make the planets space colonies instead of planets?
Yeah, that's already in there. It's the Ring World, basically an O'Neill cylinder space colony. You drop a ring instead of a planet and the terrain, biomes, grass and water all build on the inside surface with spin gravity, so you walk on the inner wall and the ground curves up over your head. It also has the structural hull, end walls and cloud layers, so you can fly up through the clouds to the far side. You can flip it to an outer surface ring too if you want. The latest update brought the depth water and the wade/jetpack water traversal to the rings as well. Check the RingMap level in the project, it's set up ready to fly around in. Also not just rings, gravity system supports other shapes as well. including flat planes as ground. and you can have any kind of a level and add gravity volumes to match that. not necessary to use a planet or ring as the base.
