P-63 video is uploading, and waiting for sponsor approval
I'm actually a bit worried about the sponsor approval part. They specified some crap about no controversial topics, but there was no way to talk about the P-63 and not have that bleed into the cold war, and wow did that lead to something that's going to be quite controversial. I did try to keep it light, but it's hard to play down the threat of a nuclear WW3 and the P-63 did have a role in the cold war as we will see in the video.
My video will not be changing. If they don't approve it, then so be it, I'll put it up without the sponsored content. I might be worried about nothing here, we'll see.
It's really necessary to have video sponsors these days with the AI take over of youtube. That's a shame, but it's the reality. I'm going to run a parallel channel on another platform just in case the youtube ship sinks. I'm working on that right now.
As the sponsor is World Of Warships, I do wish they had contacted me for the F6F Hellcat video, but the King Cobra does have some light naval tie ins, so I tried to include them. I think this is one of my best videos ever. As I had more footage to use than I really needed I put up an epilogue at the end of the video in which I talk about some Naval stuff I have wanted to go over for a while, but which never fits into videos.
A few years back the wife and I visited Boston, we went aboard the USS Cassin Young a Fletcher Class destroyer. The ship was actually closed at the time, but the wife convinced a part ranger type to open it up just for us and we got to tour it and see stuff the public doesn't normally see. My wife also asks questions I wouldn't think to ask, no guy would, things like where is the lettuce stored? That led to quite a fascinating insight into the way Fletcher class destroyers were operated, something I have never seen talked about in books or videos so I included it the video with Max (grandson) trying to figure out how to play World of Warships as background footage.
I'm working on a video about our last trip up to Ft. Ticonderoga. It's mostly about the RV rental experience. My wife said I need that video to be done for tax purposes. I think you guys get it. Sadly after that trip, my wife was diagnosed with cancer and is currently recovering from surgery. It's a stressful time, but she is very resilient. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.
Greg

I wil certainly add you guys to my prayer list. And…thank you for your extensive study and preparation for these always awesome presentations. They are the best!
From Boxing Bunny below, I would like a vid on the P/F-82 also. The reason the AF switched to Allisons from the Packard Merlin's is that after the war R-R raised their Royalty fee to $6,500.00 per engine when the Allison only cost $=+8,000.00 new. The Allison also made 2,300 HP to the Merlin's 2,218. The Allison was fixed by Edger Schmude, the designer of the Mustang in both the P-51J? and the P-82 factory test mule by adding backfire screens to the inlets which cured all the Allison problems, but GM, Allisons owner, did not want to spend a penny because jets were the next big thing! So much time and money wasted over penny pinchers at GMC!
So sorry to hear about your wife! I sincerely hope that she recovers better than I have over the last 35 years or so from Agent Orange! You have to keep a Positive Mental attitude at all times, or the low times will wear you down! Best wishes and hope for a total recovery with minimal side effects!
it would be interesting to add the P-82 Twin Mustang to the superprop series. I believe the first P-82's were Merlin powered and the latter powered by two stage 2000 hp? rated Allisons. I think because Packard stopped Merlin production to return to auto production.
I really liked the P-63 video. P-39 & P-63 have always been two of my favorites, ever since I first saw that famous night shot of a P-39 with all guns ablaze on he inside cover of a book when I was a kid.
Watched the P-63 video yesterday and as usual it was excellent. One comment - I believe the other "big" combat user of the P-63 was France, which received some 300 right at the end of WW2, but after a brief time in France and Algeria, were all sent to combat in French Indochina. Would make an interesting footnote to your video, as it's about as different a combat use as possible from that of the Soviets!
Wishing your wife a speedy recovery! Surgery and recovery is probably the best alternative when talking about cancer. Especially when the doctors say that after the surgery. Drachinifel refuses to cover ships after ww2 because it’s too controversial. Controversial in the sense of a country’s internal politics playing a larger than desirable role in what is actually designed, funded, and produced. The LCS and the USS America are two examples from the United States. Greg’s opinion of the P47’s history could certainly qualify as controversial.
Great job Greg. I got alot of pleasure out of your narrative. I always liked the p39 and p63 as a young man. It just seemed like putting the weapons in the nose was more efficient. I always also thought that the ww1 pushers if they would have just got rid of the gunner would have really been the ticket in 1915. Thanks for your hard work.
Waiting for this is torture!
I keep checking back like a kid at Christmas. I’ve been fascinated by the Bell mid engine fighter architecture for a long time. I’ve read everything I can get my hands on and a lot of the internet info is way off. Looking forward to Greg’s take on the P63.
Sorry to hear about your wife's health troubles. I am looking forward to the P-63 video and the RV video. Congrats on the private tour of the Cassin Young. I'm sure that was fascinating. The Fletcher destroyers were a key part of the war in the Pacific. I knew guys of my dad's age who served on them.
I'm sorry to hear about your wife. I didn't read that far before I fired off my complaint. Now I feel like a total jerk.
I would have much preferred the C.202, but I'm sure it will be good.
Thoughts and prayer for your wife and a speedy and full recovery.
Sorry to hear your wife entered that growing group of people. Best recovery to her.
🙏
Thoughts and prayers for your wife. My family is going through similar. On the other topic, I don't think that's what they mean by controversial topics (Cold War), so best of luck on the video sponsorship.
I hope your wife has a speedy and complete recovery. The Cold War is controversial?!
Sending prayers for your wife's speedy recovery.
My prayers for your wife's recovery, and also your own welfare. My fiancée had major bowel surgery earlier this summer. She hated it, and couldn't wait to get out of hospital. But I know that the worry of standing by not able to do much other than to make her comfortable is also very bad, albeit in a different way.
Our prayers are with your wife and family Greg.
Prayers for your Wife and your family.
I am very sorry to hear about your wife. I too was recently diagnosed with cancer and had surgery to successfully remove it, so I have a great amount of empathy for the two of you. My thoughts and heart go out to you both.
Prayers for our wife.
Prayers for your wife. Whichever platform you decide to use, I'll subscribe🤘
Wishing the best for you and your wife. What parallel platform are you going to use?
Wishing a speedy recovery.
Wishing a fast and complete recovery to your wife. And I am so often amazed that Cold War topics can be "controversial." But you have encountered something I have also when presenting historical interpretation of that era. My take... there is nothing that a plane known to NATO as "FRED" would have done that is worthy of a single second of umbrage.
I'm so very sorry to hear about your wife... time for Faith in God and Meaning in Life. I will pray for her absolute recovery as i write this note... You are both in my thoughts... Thank you for your Being...
You bet, wishing her speedy recovery!
Wishing your wife a speedy recovery Greg, looking forward to the video
Its going to be fantastic as always. 👌
Thoughts and prayers for your family. As a life long aviation nut and professional pilot of 40 years this is simply the best aviation content found anywhere. I look forward to the video.
