Gold Card Price Analysis
Hey Guys,
There are some questions we cannot answer yet about the best cards to invest in, but we can get some ideas from last year! In this post, I will discuss what types of cards do well and why. I'll also talk about cards you may want to avoid for a heavy loss!
The biggest factors in regards to pricing cards is how meta they are and what rating they are. Even if a card is crazy META it can be tough for them to sustain their price as more and more supply comes in. This is why you saw cards like Llorente (82) and Davies (81) really come down in price last year after the first few weeks.
In this post, we'll look at a few different price points
EA Play - October 1st
Early Access - October 6th
October 20th - Random date showing price sustainability
Marcos Llorente
October 1st: 10K (Max Price Range)
October 6th: 29K
October 20th: 3.7K (Lol)
Now, Llorente is an example I noted because of the steep decline. It's a card that got massacred because he was heavily used in starter teams, but people naturally upgraded to De Jong and Valverde when they could.
Ferland Mendy
October 1st: 50K (Max Price Range)
October 6th: 101K
October 20th: 112K
Mendy is a perfect example of a card you would want in your team. Not only could you make profit on him buying early, but his price was kept high extremely long. He's known as one of the best LB in the game and had the all important Varane link.
What made Mendy so much safer than a card like Llorente? Well, you're already at the final upgrade. If you run a La Liga side, there was no better option. Upgrading to the top version early is really key.
This year, Theo Hernandez (84) will be another great example, too!
Joe Gomez
October 1st: ~50K (Max Price Range) To be honest, I can't remember what his max range was, but he hit it. We shouted him at 25K, which is hilarious.
October 6th: 103K
October 20th: 98K
Gomez is an interesting one. The reason he did well is caused by a few different factors.
1. Premier League Tax
This is just a fact and is a thing every year in Fifa. Premier League players of similar starts and ratings will cost more than any other league. It's typically the most popular league in FUT and I would expect the same this year.
2. META
Gomez was one of only a few CB's to have 80+ pace on his gold card. It looks like EA changed their approach in Fifa 22, but this made him really overpowered in Fifa 21.
3. Lack of Alternatives
This one is huge and the key factor. The Premier League has a major lack of meta CB's in FUT.
Look at the games played on Gomez/VVD compared to all other CB's! Hilarious really.
Richarlison
October 1st: 15K (Max Price Range)
October 6th: 40K
October 20th: 12K lol
Another great example of a starter card that people moved away from. With better options like Werner, Auba, Martial and Jesus he simply could not sustain his value at this rating.
I could take you through more examples and I would be happy to if you have any questions, but you should get the gist of it!
If you want to build a team early on pick players who are some of the best in their respective position and they will hold their value the longest. Typically you would look for 83+ in rating with a strong league and nation.
Aim to avoid cards 79-81 rated in value as they are simply packed too heavily to sustain their price. Every supply period from Rivals, Weekend League and Squad Battle will likely bring them down!
