Would you pay $12USD for new Foundry VTT Ready 5e Monsters with 2D tokens, 50-100 Foundried Battlemaps, and a 5e campaign sourcebook monthly?
We are now adding 5e mechanics and new monsters with 2D monster tokens for our monthly campaign sourcebooks. Because of this, we can get the 5e monsters Luke's designed added directly to Foundry VTT, so you wouldn't need to manually add them yourself (tedious!).
Problem is, this would cost us between $100 - $300 each month, which is a big investment and an extra cost for us to break even on. So my question is:
Free members and new GMs, would you be willing to pay $12USD per month for new unique 5e FoundryVTT ready monsters, as well as a new monthly 2D tokens, with a new campaign sourcebook, as well as 50-100 FoundryVTT ready battlemaps?

Don't use Foundry. No use to me. The maps in Roll20 would be ok, for some, but I only need a few a month (we do a lot of theater of the mind stuff and drawing on a white board), so I only go through 1 or 2 a month. Getting maps pregen is probably not worth the $12.00. Besides, I've put so many maps into Roll20 that I can knock it out pretty quick. And, I have no interest in D&D or Pathfinder stuff. Yes, the D&D community is large and you might generate some interest, but I haven't played it in forever. My gaming group plays anything but (Shadowrun, Traveler, TORG recently, but have played almost everything at one point in time or another, old age will do that). We use the maps because they are system agnostic. Tying maps, tokens, monsters to a specific game system is a nonstarter for me and I have no interest. But, I hope there are enough out there that are interested that you can make some $ at this. You make $, I get maps. I like maps. Maps are good.
No because I use Roll20. Foundry is cool, but too much work. Nice to offer a service that lightens the load for those that do use Foundry, but since I don't use it I have no interest in such a service.
Thank you for this, we’re currently looking into a service to get our maps set up in Roll20. Assuming the above was for roll20 instead, is $12 still reasonable or too expensive? I need to figure out how many new Patrons we’d need to break even on the cost, if you don’t mind helping by sharing more thoughts :)
all about the 2d maps. bells and whistles dont interest. and setting up foundry walls etc isnt that hard
Fantastic feedback, thanks so much for your honesty! I don’t know if we could do this bc the logistics might be too much (it’s really time consuming uploading our maps as all the different formants for all our patrons, and now I’m getting them back on DriveThruRPG too so they’re easier to search and download), but lets say there *was* a cheap tier that only offered basic VTT maps (jpegs) and nothing else - would you be interested and how much would you think would it be worth? TIA!
I don't use Foundry, I am currently using Owlbear Rodeo for my VTT.
Thank you for this! Out of curiosity, lets say this was for Owlbear Rodeo. Would it be worth the $12 then or still too expensive? How much would it be worth otherwise?
Happy to pay $12 but I would need it for Roll20 and not Foundry.
Thanks Ben, we’re currently looking into getting our maps done in Roll20 too now. We need to figure out how to do it and how many new Patrons we’d need to break even :)
So going from the comments, I think the takeaway here is that a large proportion of your audience follows you *because* your material is system neutral. There's a lot of people making stuff for 5e out there; it's a crowded field. Personally, the last map of yours I used was Elven Temple of the Eternal Flame to represent the Spires of the Morning in Waterdeep in a run of the D&D 3.5 adventure Vampires of Waterdeep from Dungeon Magazine. Had it been done up with 5e rules for something else and I'd paid for that, I've had discarded it all immediately.
Thanks Woodrow I think you’re onto something here. And Luke and I are listening! Because of this, we will be doubling all our work so there’s a campaign sourcebook with monsters that’s system agnostic still, and a separate one that’s done in 5e so GMs who use that still get their lives made a bit easier. Sincerely, thanks so much for your feedback!
I’d rather it work with pathfinder 2e
Oh goodness we are already so short on time but based on the amazing feedback we’re getting here we’ll still be releasing a system agnostic campaign sourcebook with monsters, as well as 5e… and now we’re looking into 2e XD Haha thanks Brandon! P.S Would $12 be reasonable for this if 2e was included?
I use Roll20 more than Foundry. But $12 is a good price for the content!
Thanks Daniel! Good news, we’re looking on how to get our maps done in Roll20 too now. We’d love to keep making all you wonderful GM’s lives easier where we can! I feel so bad that there’s anyone more than 1 GM having to add walls, lighting ect. I can’t imagine many ppl enjoy that.
I'd pay the $12 for material that wasn't VTT specific - like a full sourcebook/campaign module and monsters and all. I don't use Foundry (too touchy and less intuitive to me than Roll 20), so maps specific to that wouldn't be of use to me. I love the maps and material you all produce, and I'll keep subscribing for content, but I won't be adding any Foundry-specific stuff to my membership. :)
Thanks so much Katelyn! We are looking into getting our maps done in Roll20, just need to figure out how many new Patron’s we’d need to break even as it’s a fair few schmeckles but I can’t imagine it’s enjoyable to add all that, and it would be nicer if only one GM does it and no one else does :P Otherwise, at the $12 tier DMs would still get all this stuff plus access to the basic VTT battlemaps (for importing themselves) and printable battlemaps.
The groups I play in (and mostly DM for) are also on Roll20 and while we sometimes play 5e it is by no means our main system. Once I got used to one VTT I simply did not want to switch and have to re-learn everything. Foundry-specific content is therefore not of great interest to me. If Foundry was my VTT of choice, I would absolutely be willing to pay for ready-to-use maps/tokens. As it stands I guess I am plagued by the curse of the early adopter.
Haha, thanks so much for this! We are currently looking into getting our maps done in Roll20, just need to figure out how many new Patrons we’d need to break even. Would $12 still be reasonable? I think it would just be added to this tier alongside Foundry.
I use Foundry, but play Pathfinder 2e. I still occasionally buy 5e stuff for the rare instances I run a one shot, but that's it.
Fantastic feedback Mack! Thank you. We’ll double up our campaign sourcebooks with monsters moving forward, so there’ll be a system agnostic version, as well as a 5e version… and now we’re looking into doing a 2e version as well (if we can make the time! XD).
I'll also pick the second option, just for the reason that I am not on D&D (but other game systems). So paying regularly for something very D&D-specific is only of some use to me. The major benefit for me comes from inspiring scenic imagery and maps (especially if they're already "Foundry VTT-ready", with walls, sound and lights), plus inspirational plot ideas. Then I can easily adapt this to my own system and campaign. As I have high respect for what you are generally publishing (I've found the best resources by far here!), I'd definitely be willing to pay for it (maybe not $12USD, but a bit less? But anyway...)
Hello and HUGE thanks for your massive complement for our resources! Holy heck that’s made our day. 🥰🥰🥰 We’re listening re the feedback too - because of this, we’re going to keep releasing our campaigns with monsters as system agnostic, as well as done for 5e (so 2 documents). What would this tier be worth to you, if you don’t mind answering? $10USD? Less? I might have to create another poll so yall can answer as anons, I know $12USD is a lot. It’s just expensive stuff for us to make, but maybe we can look into finding cheaper ways to do or or alternative price structures. Thanks so much!! ~ Beb
It is a fair price, but *I* don't want to spend so much money on a "blind" Product. I usually play in custom campaigns and need specific maps. Such a pillar in the desert. So no. But still reasonable price
What do you mean by blind? We actually give away a full teaser of the next month’s campaign before each month rolls over, like the 3D mini guys do, so GMs can unsub before they get charged if they don’t want what’s next. Or do you mean something else? Might have to make this clearer in our tier descriptions, thanks so much for your feedback really appreciate it!
Our groups does not use Foundry (but Roll20), we do not use (D&D)5e rules or mechanics, and have our own custom monsters and tokens. Sorry, this wouldn’t be of much use to us. We love the maps and that’s why we’re here.
Thanks so much for this feedback Bent! We are looking into getting our maps done in Roll20, but we need to figure outhow many new Patrons we’d need to break even. Would you think $12 is still a fair price for 50-100 roll20 maps monthly, even if u didn’t use the other stuff? TIA!
I'd pay something, for a one off payment, for the suggested number of battlemaps that are foundry ready. Monster tokens and statblocks would be a bonus. A campaign sourcebook is something I would want to know more about but am less interested in as I typically run home brew. Especially if it was modular release each month
Thanks so much for this feedback Kal, appreciate it! I’ll make sure we keep up the bundles on our website, still catching up on all the individual map listings (I’m about 1k behind and it takes FOREVER to upload files onto DriveThruRPG T.T)
I am a Pathfinder 2e GM and haven't touched D&D 5e either as a player or a GM in years. If I were still playing D&D, I might consider it for the monsters, because their releases come out so slow that tapping into third party products is a necessity. But at the moment, none of the options here apply to me.
Thanks Zak appreciate the feedback! We’re now going to keep releasing the campaigns with monsters as system agnostic, as well as for 5e (so 2 different documents). Aaaand now we’re looking into if we can do them in 2e also 😅 I want an hourglass that stops time so bad rn.
I run Pathfinder 1e, so 5e D&D material is actually worth less to me than system-neutral campaigns.
I’m getting back to this also in case it notifies all the ppl who hearted this - we’re listening, we’ll keep releasing our campaigns with monsters as system agnostic as well as done for 5e (so 2 different documents). We are also now looking into if we could do it for 2e 😅
It's not that I think that's a bad value. I think it's probably excellent value. But the money adds up when it's coming out every month. And it's hard for me to justify paying for stuff like that when there's no possible way I could use it with my gaming cadence. I'm sure the product and the value are great but it's just hard for me to justify a subscription while if I was some kind of paid DM where I was starving for material to run every week I'm sure it would be worth it. But I'm just a hobbyist.
Thanks so much James for your honest feedback here, Luke and I sincerely appreciate it. It has made me think long and hard if we can try find a way to make our content more affordable for you lovely GMs, as we do understand it is a lot of money. So, if this costs us a lot to make, how can we make it cheaper or more efficiently? Are there other pricing structures we can look at? This has given me a lot to think about, as I understand the price of food has inflated an insane amount and a lot of ppl are feeling financial stress atm. $12 USD is absolutely a lot. We may need to find what the ideal price point is and consider if it’s realistic for us to get there. Thanks again James, your feedback is always really helpful!
