quantifica august

hey team!

PROGRESS REPORT
next video is the public quantifica post that also functions as a Patreon relaunch. I'm listing it here as 20% because that's usually what is meant by "script locked, no audio or video editing has commenced." that may not be fully accurate in this case, as these videos tend to have pretty breezy edits, and also there's a lot of non-editing prep that's going into this one. scripts to collate, old videos to re-host, licenses to procure, funding models to investigate. it's... not a ton of extra work, but I'm just saying 20% is an under-estimate.

VIDEO CABINET: 4/9
no movement on this end, as the labor has been going into a non-grid video. but! I have settled on the next vid, and, while I would never tempt fate by saying "should be a quick turnaround," I think the alternatives would probably take even longer, so...

MUSIC CABINET: 1/9
I have concluded my investigation into prog and have declared the Prog Album I Quite Like to be: Vaxis - Act III: The Father of Make Believe, by Coheed and Cambria. I have... a lot to say about prog from my investigation, and have written and thrown out a lot of words on the subject, but I have figured out how to structure what I'm on about and will endeavor not to spend too much more time on the subject.

here is this month's minimix:

Coheed and Cambria - Goodbye, Sunshine
- this song is about an amicable breakup, but might also be about turning a star into a black hole? couldn't get confirmation from anyone who follows the narrative canon of C&C, and one told me, "do the homework, asshole." :D

Iamthemorning - Matches
- this band was logged as "chamber prog," and I want credit for not counting it as two squares.

Marcel Amont - Tout doux tout doucemont
- sometimes you hear a song in an episode of Ted Lasso and immediately know it's going on the playlist.

Polyphia - ABC ft. Sophia Black
- what if that one song by Blackalicious was half in Japanese and full of incredibly show-offy guitars? would that be awesome, or mega-awesome?

Psychedelic Porn Crumpets - Bowling With Tim
- this is the second time I've listened to a band purely because their name showed up on Spotify and I said "yeah, ok, I'll check that out." this time the band was good! (man, this story would be funnier if I could remember the last band's name. just pretend I said Anal Cunts or Cannibal Corpse.)

Unprocessed - Redwine
- I don't have words for this one.

FILM CABINET: 5/9
hey, we've crossed the halfway point for one grid! admittedly, "watch nine movies" was the easiest challenge I gave myself. Better Man was excellent, Tornado started excellent then trended down towards "pretty good," and Mother Mary was excellent. I love when movies are good!

here are additional reviews of Red Road and Straight Time, if you're into that.

BOOK CABINET: 0/9
still got nothin to report. soz.

GAME CABINET: 3/9
I am two macguffins into Unsighted but it is not finished! here's a quick review of Sprawl to tide you over.

a'ight, talk soon, folks! goodies coming your way.

One among the Fence! Ian, did you explore also Coheed’s back catalogue or just the latest album? I wholeheartedly recommend starting from the beginning… early songs that are evergreen fan favorites on live concerts include “In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3” and “Welcome Home”.

I went back and listened to Turbine Blade and Good Apollo for context. might dabble in some others when the urge strikes!

Is it weird that I'm more hyped about the bingo row in the Video Cabinet than 50% of the Film Cabinet being filled? I'm referring to the geometry, not the content. It could be 50% of the Book Cabinet for all I care, but there being no bingo is kinda meh?

3x3 bingo - or, as I call it: bin - isn't that impressive!
