a guide to flaming out: corny shit
footage from CBS Mornings, Somatic Skills with Emily, Therapy in a Nutshell, Aurabowls, and Beavis & Butt-head Do America
this was the final piece. I gotta figure out the order, do some audio leveling, and put in credits, but A Guide to Flaming Out is functionally done.

Thank you
That lingering Peterson face is borderline abuse, buddy. Because it’s not my screen that a want to punch so badly…
One way I've found to accept the cringe is to do so ironically. I don't know who said it first, but I am so grateful for the words: I'm going for a stupid walk for my stupid mental health.

You fucking get it! I’m doing worlds better than I was in September because of this kind of stuff and I *still* hate that it works
by the way, do any of y'all have that PHP handout? even if it's in papyrus...
Objection: Making your bed in the morning is a BAD IDEA. You're just sealing in all the sweat that your body released during the night instead of letting it evaporate. OK OK it's a great idea... for the BACTERIA!
Probably should explain: Push those covers down and get them off of the bed! Helps to have a bench or something similar to receive them at the foot of the bed.
Is it bad that I'm sorry this is done? I wanted to say something about how I hoped you'd eventually open this up to regular viewers. I'm glad you are. It's too good to hold back.
Mate, you really have to upload this series on youtube. It's banger after banger
Goddammit. Fuck you for calling me out like that. I love it. You're the best. Fuck all the way off. ❤️
Gawd. I love this one. This one is… yeah. All of it.
So relatable. Don't forget the Four Deathly Words, "It's okay to cry." Fuck that! I'm a grown man and crying is cringe. And all the corollaries, like talk/sing/write/draw about something that makes you sad, because that leads to the Four Deathly Words and why would I do that to myself? There are some things that aren't cringe, though. Like punching a pillow instead of a face when all that repressed rage was too much to hold in any longer. That actually made sense to me. The pillow ain't gonna punch me back, so it's win-win!
Ok, this was a bridge too far and I feel personally called out. What do you mean that all that banal basic-ass printed-on-a-million-pamplets recited-by-every-mental-health-clinic advice fucking works? UGH. But it's SO god damn BASIC.
That fucking last line legitimately had me in stitches. But also this is true and very like annoying that it works.
Ooh I fucking felt this one. I had to suck it up and do a lot of cringe once I had kids and it suuuuuucked. But it was worth it.
I don't hate these things... I hate that they don't come easy, that I have to remind myself to do them, and even then I still don't do them. I hate that I'm in my forties and just heard about this now.
I have to say that I love the order of the final two videos. An actual, heartfelt finale before the REAL message.
This video is amazing, all this series is amazing, and specially this video I need to share it with so many people I know. Ian, thank you so much for what you've done. You may not interiorize this yet, but that doesn't mean we'll stop saying it.
Ugh why you gotta be so correct.
Your phenomenal works are threatening the bulwarks of my denial.
I have lost my smile, but don’t worry. The dandelion has it. -a friend of Thich Nhat Hanh
I am not even aware of half of these. :( (Where does one go to learn these, therapy?) Thank you for this whole series.
A long time ago, a friend pointed out that we teach everyone how to drive in Driver's Ed, but we don't teach anyone how to be mentally healthy. Priorities, am I right?
Yes. Yes it is. And the levels of suck that some of it actually works makes it even more cringe imho. .... But... ... They work GDit. Smdh. So, we get up, make the bed and do it-- cringing the whole damned time. 🫂
This entire series is really good work!
I cannot wait until I can share this with my friends, who need to see it. Thank you, Ian.
