Cool fact: one of my relatives moved to Australia from the UK back in the 19th century because he was whipped in the face by a wealthy person on horseback, he was operating a gate and the rich guy didn’t think the gate was opened fast enough. I’ve always thought one reason the UK sucks so much today is that everyone who wanted a better life went to USA/Canada/Australia/New Zealand/South Africa (with mixed results obviously)

Reminded of the scene from the Tudors when Henry is holed up with his fool and he creates Nonesuch Castle

Impressive recall. I remember The Tudors being good, but this far out there's only two things I really remember from the show...

Shoes that generate electricity are already a thing for decades now. Those shoes that blink while walking use no batteries and generate electricity like those torchlights you have to shake for 10 minutes to make them light up for one minute.

P
P S · June 29, 2023

"Piezoelectric shoes to charge personal devices" is actually a concept that was first patented almost 20 years ago. The problem with it is less the batteries and more that there isn't that much kinetic energy to be captured

K
Karl Childers · June 29, 2023

also any kinetic energy being converted into power has to come from somewhere and it turns out humans are pretty energy-efficient at walking so the only way this could work is by making walking more difficult

A
Adam Foster · June 29, 2023

Alice I’m not saying the idea isn’t still underdeveloped by the AI but there are literally 3D food printer prototypes

Peak Bezos was him buying a bunch of random CDs at a truck stop because he thought listening to music would lighten the mood while driving across the country with a bunch of Amazon employees immediately after 9-11. Riding in the back of a Chevy Malibu next to Jeff Bezos listening to Jock Jams 9 while I contemplate man's inhumanity to man.

Deranged as this tale is, one does have to admit Gary Glitter's "Rock and Roll, Part 2" would be the perfect soundtrack for such musings.

Much as I'd wish Mr. Harry Mountbatten-Windsor would leave the Golden State, there is one job he would be perfect for: host of The Price is Right. He knows how to speak with the elderly, he knows how to speak with young people who have nothing going on, and he certainly knows how to speak with his blokes in the armed forces.
