Britain Hates Its Children feat. Devon

It's the free one!

This week, Riley, Hussein, Alice, and Devon talk about the latest salvo in Britain’s war on children, especially gender non-conforming ones, in all facets of life—but especially in education and safeguarding. We also react to one of the dumbest AI-related startups yet.

Life was so much simpler in the 70s when you could just deny women credit based on their birth certificates and also sexually assault and murder them for ‘deceiving’ men by dressing provocatively with no intent of providing physical pleasure. Western culture has always practiced entitlement to women’s genitals, the burden was just shifted onto trans women after the 90s. They don’t give a shit about children. They’re terrified of the stochastic redistribution of gender based privileges

When I looked up what a Chinese room is, I realized I am the literally living embodiment of the thought problem. I can write it, I can speak it with perfect pronunciation, but I cannot read it at all, so I'd basically be the ideal candidate to be placed in the Chinese room.

Reinventing the wheel. If I ever need focus groups I just go on a sims modding page and download a save game file of my micro targeted demographic. I now make keychains specifically for naked Edward Cullens and poor imitations of Avril Lavigne. I am set to retire at 30.

at that point i basically imagine the next grassroots labour campaign as: [knock knock] "hi, we're representatives for the Labour Party, and contra the Conservatives, we have extremely normal and nuanced views on transgender people. Can we count on your vote to uphold a programme of looking into it very strongly and engage with all the concerned stakeholders? yes thank you"

In fairness to Britain, the USA absolutely despises children too.

400 militarized cops standing in the Uvalde Elementary School corridors and helping themselves to a squirt of hand sanitizer until things blow over can’t be wrong

This startup is just selling princess maker as enterprise software.

I cannot imagine managing to stay as calm as Devon and Alice while discussing the movement of social sadists who deem themselves "gender critical". If you made me spend an hour discussing the behavior of those soulless psychopaths, I'd probably be screaming and crying after the first twenty minutes. That or producing long series of bleeped-out segments reminiscent of WTYP.

God, I’m so old that I know from copious tv watching that that Riley is conflating two different NBC crossover nights—the Hurricane was a Saturday night event crossing over Golden Girls, Empty Nest, and Nurses, and the Blackout that crossed over Friends, Mad About You, and the completely forgotten Madman of the People. Seinfeld refused to go along.

The five factor model is not evo psych! It's widely considered the best model for personality by real social scientists!

I completely get you; I always felt... something? But never knew what it was until I was 18. Trying to combat the whole "If you're trans you just know from when you're a child." thing from my parents is annoying :/

The startup reminds me of the episode of The Thick of It where the ministry tries to build an entire policy around a single focus group member who turns out to have been a paid actress the whole time

For my mandated reporter training in NYS I had a case study about a trans kid who was suspected of being abused because of their gender by their parents. It was hard to see, but I’m glad it was there for more people to confront that reality.

Synthetic Users sounds like a name generated by an AI; the pitch of AI generated focus group sounds like it was generated by an AI; each and every one of those asked and answered questions sound like they were AI generated. I think AI may have already won at Capitalism, just by replacing start up guys. They will do nothing; everything will be terrible.

oh wow, I didn't know NBC did pseudo crossover nights with the "common theme of a hurricane" thing, as someone born maybe a little too late for that I had almost no idea stuff like that happened (well besides the nights where NBC made their Thursday night primetime shows all do a live episode like with 30 Rock I think). I've tried incredibly hard to find the episodes/night that Riley was talking about and the only thing I could find was this http://www.poobala.com/everybodyandking.html

Hating children is the last guilt free joy. Once it is gone we will have nothing left, not even belonging to the hog gestalt will suffice.

As someone who works for a (honestly fairly harmless) startup, I get so excited to hear about new and terrible startup companies.

I believe it was Phoebe who proposed that a Labour platform of "hang the pedos, fund the NHS" would be an invincible electoral strategy. Keith has heard her out and decided to only go with the first bit, let's see how it plays out. (My sincerest apologies if I have ascribed this theory in error to Ms. Roy.)

Ackchually, Keith made it up??? Sorry, Andrew, but you underestimate Mr Starmer; Our puddle drinking leader.

When I was a child in Britain other children were persistently horrid to me. As an adult just hearing children freaks me out, but I recognise that they'll be paying my hypothetical pension in 40 years time so can avoid sliding into hate... Also glad to hear the global anti trans bullshit being properly described for what it is.

B
Bruce · April 17, 2023

in fairness, I hate Britain's children also
