Vincent Van DALL-E feat. Mattie Lubchansky

Mattie Lubchansky joins the gang to explore the future of art and AI. There was once a time when you could make a decent living as an illustrator, but a number of people have decided to get rid of that by using Computers. Hope you were okay with all the art that’s been made so far, because that’s all you’re getting!

ALBANY MENTIONED

My particularly harsh question is why the idea of large swaths of commercial artists and graphic designers being automated out of the economy is treated as a particular moral peril compared to every other kind of job.

Digital artists stand atop a mountain of other artisan trades that have been largely automated out of existence.

What they don't consider is maybe Virmere didn't paint the rest of the room because it wasn't fucking relevant to the subject matter and what he was trying to convey. Urgh, fuck sake.

The things I learn from this show is slowly damaging my mental health, yet I continue to stand in front of this content train daring it to hit me.

this was me until I started listening to leftist podcasts more focused on theory too. don't get me wrong I love TF but my favourite episodes are when they have activists or organisers who are obviously versed in Marxism and in a form that lets them use it as a tool to combat the issues the tech economy is perpetuating, i.e praxis. and also when Milo does funny voices. otherwise TF gets pretty bleak, frustratingly so because there Are answers

The funny stuff about the AI copywriting is that the main skill that gets you highly paid as a copywriter is being able to wrangle confused executives and get them to feel good about agreeing to something that doesn't sound completely terrible. The actual writing is pretty easy to learn, and most human copyrighters are just duplicating stuff they saw elsewhere anyway

one day ai generated ai will exist, removing the final actual piece of meaningful labour from the economy and everything will be bullshit jobs, and at that point when I'm a computer masseuse and not even sure what that means i will know my last moment of humour

Does anybody know who is the contemporary Marxist writer Riley mentions frequently? Mark Fisher?

A
Andrew Llewellyn · November 3, 2022

If he's talking about the author of Capitalist Realism, then yes it's Mark Fisher.

Obviously the way that the AI image generation technically works isn't really the crux of the issue, but I think the best way to describe it is that it's taught to squint at an image until it's all blurry, and that way it learns how to unsquint at a blur until it looks like a large breasted anime woman.
