It's the free one!
Cory Doctorow and Rebecca Giblin come on to discuss their new book “Chokepoint Capitalism,” which details how large companies have identified critical bottlenecks in the creative Labour process to suck the value and life out of them like vampires, and what can and has been done about it. Also, a startup! U.K. economic implosion to be discussed in this week’s bonus.

I’m just imagining if Merzbow started using Arpeggi
Oh no, please don't. I'd hate it if he'd turned out to be a crypto bro.
"isnt that the guy who wrote Stormbreaker?" Lol
love me a Cory episode
Fun fact: If you ever wanted a material reason to hate Cliff Richard, he's the reason that copyright does not expire until 70 years after the death of the artist. That's because his songs were entering public domain in his lifetime, thus threatening his interests. So, he sued (and I can't remember who) but eventually got the law changed in his favour. Landlord cunt.
okay I was always puzzled by how freakishly expensive bandwidth is on AWS but I suppose if it's a mechanism to shuffle cash from commercial divisions of Amazon into AWS to centralize the profit center then it makes sense
for example: a normal managed hosting will normally give you a free terabyte of outbound traffic per month as a baseline for a vhost that will run you at least 20$ per month. AWS charges 9 cents per gig for the first I think 10 terabyte. 9 cents a gig is a lot of money. It implies that for example 1 dollar of AWS bandwidth serves 20 podcast episodes. in a more intuitive manner, in the real world you pay for the pipe, not the water. The hosting company doesn't care if the pipe is half full all the time or full 1 percent of the time, as long as it doesn't overflow. Same way home broadband is a flat rate per month and the data cap is only to keep a people in check. That's the implicit deal for big users. AWS is weird in that it charges for every droplet of water in the pipe. AWS also has a lot of their own backbone infra so once again, they can charge themselves a flat infrastructure rate but charge end users this absurd cents per gig deal.
"THEY'RE FUCKING OUR PUSSIES"
that video essay that Hussein mentioned is goated. Dan Olson single handedly destroyed the NFT market with a 3 hour breadtube essay and he topped himself again. My guy thought he had it too good as a content creator so he decided to give himself a horifying gig work writing job just to feel how bad it is to get bamboozled by a hustle grind scammer.
if you think that economics are so simplistic and uninteresting why don't you find another hobby. knitting maybe? some people pull off gnarly patterns. you should look into it.
