The News Bastard ft Nish Kumar

Riley has decided to subject Nish Kumar to yet another piece of writing from the inner sanctum of the British media-politico citadel. It’s Robert Peston’s thriller, The Whistleblower!

Why does this guy give his characters the last names of 70s footballers? Breitner, Deyna…

I’d put money that Peston is into something even kinkier than S&M.

Wait so it all ends with a secret meeting about scummy political stuff that he... doesn't cover?

If Aaron Sorkin wrote a George Smiley novel this abortion would be the result

btw I would really appreciate if you could find a way to clear the rights on the Clogheads crate digging finds because I want to put Radar Van on my New Wave Mega Bangers of the 80's playlist on Spotify

My name is Robert Peston, and I woke up to the news that Tony Blair would be the new Prime Minister. Now I’m enjoying the fine pop artistry of Robbie Williams. Today was a good day.

I do love how libs endlessly talk about British Values (which has always had the energy of being imported from the US) and yet still can never articulate what those values are. Not even able to give a bullet point list of them! 🤷‍♂️

something about 'tolerance and freedom of speech' which doesn't exactly have a historical precedent in the imperial core, to an insulting degree

It is uniquely sad that all these journalists are so embedded into the establishment that they can't imagine anything more than a fictionalised version of their life. All that classical education with all the privelige and generous funding that comes with it, and they still have no capacity for abstract thought or metaphor, or even trying to make a deeper point about "society". Come on, at least give me one of them attempting a Sci-fi novel. Just something that challenges their writing abilities. Imagine fucking Dominic Cummings trying to write his own Neuromancer story and falling on his pretentious face. It would be such a magnificent car crash! Give me a Tesua Nomura doing Kingdom Hearts level of insanity.

Not disagreeing with you that it's particularly bad with these journalists and MPs, but there's also the factor that a lot of not very good writers take the maxim 'Write what you know' to an Amelia Bedelia-like level and just end up writing insanely boring novels about the wildest possible day they could possibly have at their boring-ass job with a bunch of technical detail no one cares about.

Clear telephones were for sure a North American thing. Every school contest/fundraiser had one as a prize for a while in the 90’s.

I have been so hungry for this slop since Riley tweeted the phrase "news bastard"
