Britainology 27: We Watched a Dave Courtney Movie

Now unlocked to the $5 tier!

Look, this is something of a loose episode because Milo was on tour while we recorded it. However, in an effort to satisfy our urge to explain Britain, we watched the 2016 film GANGSTERS, GAMBLERS AND GEEZERS which is a z-grade British knockoff of Harold and Kumar, features none other than Dave Courtney, and contains some of the worst shit we've ever seen. If we can ever get our hands on the Dave Courtney-directed film GATWICK GANGSTERS, we'll watch it. However, at present, you cannot watch it anywhere--legally or highly illegally--because it has no actual distribution. Sad! Anyway, hope you enjoy.

Slavoj Zizek once observed that he had been to terrible films before because there is always something worth seeing. I like to think of this episode as the return volley to that observation.

Amazingly, one of the "milf guys" you mention from the American Pie movies is actually played by John Cho, who went on to play Harold in Harold and Kumar

This sounds like it straddles between the line between super low budget British film, and super high budget British porn. And it sounds like any actual sex would have improved it! Also, if we're gonna talk moderately okay British comedies from the late 90's, I would recommend "the Parole Officer", starring none other than Steve Coogan. A film I watched more times than I care to admit. The existence of Ben Dover makes me grateful I was born in a generation that had the internet for that sort of thing, and not having to rent of one his depressing films from some crappy 90's video store.

They made a milf-centric movie and Milo didn't enjoy it. Didnt know that was possible.

Has anyone seen the segment of that docu-series where Big Narstie goes and hangs out with a bunch of historical reenactors? It's the most cursed-but-wholesome shit imaginable.

oh my god the wikipedia paragraph about how Ben Dover got his start in porn is the most British thing i've ever read in my life: "In 1978, broke from his dwindling career as a musician and working as a male stripper using the stage name "Hot Rod" (due to his reported likeness to Rod Stewart at the time), Honey responded to an advertisement for models in The Stage newspaper and met agent Kent William Boulton (1941–2002), a college lecturer from Bromley and former Labour Party candidate on the Isle of Wight who entered the porn business late in life and was renowned for organising "spanking parties"." lol and his son was a child actor with major roles in the sitcoms Outnumbered and Cuckoo who got nominated for Best Male Newcomer at the 2009 Comedy Awards but lost to Charlie Brooker. what the fuck is Britain?
