From The Desk of Peter Mandelson feat. Gareth Fearn

It's the free one!

We look at some correspondence from the Prince of Darkness and a company offering a great way to make your garden shed worth $160k. Then, Riley speaks with Gareth Fearn about the ongoing unfolding energy crisis, and how the British state has spent the last twenty years solving the problem they wish they had.

the same Pulte whom is now running housing and intelligence policy for our fair country putting data centers in your house, making you own the cost of stealing your own data i am sure that’s fine

okay but realistically what IS more Cyberpunk than having to micro-monetize ever smaller and smaller chunks of your existence on behalf of an AI overlord

Lately I've been doing energy market modelling and I felt like I was losing my mind. The switch to renewables is on track to be the greatest upward wealth transfer in history and NOBODY talks about it. The interview with Gareth restored like, half my sanity points at least.

‘the uk government doing what it does best which is pretending it has the problem it likes to have’ is *such* a good summary, my god

someone get that to the greens as a new catchphrase

so far the most annoying effect of AI at my job is that people start to send me pull requests with like 5000 lines modified and I'm genuinely like I'm happy for you or sorry that happened but I ain't reading all this shit [approved]

e
etienne · June 3, 2026

oh it passes the test suite that was also generated and that I haven't read? that's awesome man [approved]

gamer's nexus' coverage of the data dust sheds is good additional information re; the purpose and levers being pulled for the stupid idea

N
Noblese Oblahaj · June 2, 2026

So, stupid question. Many parts of the US are already having problems with even finding home insurance. What insurance companies are going to insure the flimsy money shack in your backyard? And who is going to pay for it? Not even landlords are stupid enough to be on the hook for that.

G
George Toner · June 2, 2026

Generational, long-term landlords no. The bargain basement, temu-knockoff nobility......

The shed in my backyard screeching and glowing with light like The Golden Throne at 3AM because someone wanted to generate Starmer with mommy milkers

Would a stand alone AI computer not annihilate the data centre business model?

It's called homelabbing and just because it's going to give me heatstroke doesn't mean I deserve this attack

you guys really need to talk about what’s happening in Australia: Albo finally decided to go after finance capital and have an economy that actually produces things instead of catering to rent seekers and now all the rich people are mad and saying they’re going to become literally Hitler in response

A
Andrew Davis · June 2, 2026

It's not like one of the (on paper at least) co-hosts was recently in Australia or anything.

Getting a text from Mandelson that's like, "this is more of a comment than a question".

Once a week or so, the infrasound noise from the malevolent shed modulates into a brown note, and your whole family starts to 💩 simultaneously and uncontrollably. The shed is using all your municipal water, so it's not possible to flush or shower.

P
Paul Natsuo Kishimoto · June 2, 2026

High winds drop a tree from your neighbour's yard on the shed, triggering an alarm. Within minutes, a SPAN™ Asset Protection Team rappels out of a Blackhawk onto your patio and drops/zipties everyone in sight, also your dog.

Isn't the Royal Mail meme possibly making a Mail/Male joke about the "Ukrainian rentboys" or "Starmer secretly stayed at Lord Ali's house because he's in a lavender marriage" things that all of the totally straight manly men, with Lion / Reform logo twitter profile pictures, are obsessed with?
