Jumper Too Thick

There’s been a recent profile of Sam Altman that gives a lot of chances for analysis, mostly due to the fact that the man loves lying more than anything any one of us could ever love in this world. We also talk about Starmer’s Spanish encounters and how every minor problem Hussein experiences sounds like something Keir Starmer could also be experiencing in his daily life.

I guess the only evidence for the pedo accusations is the fairly horrid allegations by Altman's sister.

well we are an oil rich nation, we buy all our weapons from the US, full of rascists and virulent islamophobes, run by Zionists, surrounded exclusively by countries that hate our guts becos we jus cannot be chill and calm the fuck down enough to do even basic economic relations with; and we have done at least two genocides already. As the new israel we have a gulf states equivalence in the scandis competing for north sea oil production, and a iran equivalence in Russia, i.e. country our most batshit rightwing politicians are constantly trying to start a war with while simultaneously crapping their pants about being at war with.

Isn't the surface-level easy joke everyone would have heard by now about all this "You know the one job that LLMs *can* replace: being CEOs, because they do sod all"? Why would Zuckary just fabricate the CEO Replacement Machine *on purpose*? Is he stupid? (more so than previously demonstrated, I mean)

every 20 years or so when gas prices get too high the below average american ends up having to try to take the Dongfeng Freedom Eagle 3000kw Deluxe on the highway to get to work. In the late 70s some of those popped up like the Dale and the Citicar. Then the original General Motors EV-1, the Smart Fortwo, things of the acabit. There were also coal-burning turbine trains, Carter putting almost totally symbolic solar panels of the roof of the white house, sporadic renaissance of utility motor biking, people trying to grey-import Citroen 2CVs, potato oil diesel conversions, the modern commuter cycling movement ... cant wait to see what we'll get this time

IMO, that society has a lying problem is a consequence of how capitalism fundamentally works– it’s predicated on misrepresenting the costs so you can underpay your suppliers and workers, and overcharge your customers, to maximise the skim you can collect for the owners. Once this primordial lie is baked into everything, when it’s presented as Good, Actually ™, you can forget about ethics in any meaningful sense

S
Snooder87 · April 16, 2026

lol no. It's got nothing to do with capitalism and everything to do with just being how people work. It's not like people don't lie in socialist or communist societies.

So, if I understood correctly, according to Farrow the PDFile allegations (and legal action) from Altman's sister are Elon oppo bs?? Or, not gay enough??? It's weird to me this didn't come up in Farrow's reporting. Not like Elon hasn't leveled similar accusations against his opponents before

J
Jordan Bettis · April 15, 2026

The sister allegations have been around for a while. Maybe there's smoke there but probably not provable (he said/she said). The point is there are way more recent and very provable and very evil stuff from altman. Stuff that Elon won't dig up because he's doing it too.

I once managed to draw Sam out in a subreddit I’d heard he lurks in. Dude’s skin is so thin that it only took some mild shit talking to get him to snap at me in a way that made it very obvious it was him, which I immediately called him on. Funniest part was him trying to clam that he didn’t say something despite being presented with screenshots of his reply, which absolutely tracks with his history of lying.

C
Cunoesse · April 15, 2026

Hussein's remarks from 1:09:37 to 1:13:01 regarding tech and Western society building and maintaining power using dense webs of lies reminds me of a song about a man and his jumper: "If you want to destroy my sweater, pull this thread as I walk away...."

Because capitalism has even ruined the experience of being extremely hungover/still drunk from last night and shuffling in to get a two dollar coffee and croissant, nursing it for half an hour, and intervening when the obviously troubled youth is saying something truly alarming and getting a full breakfast which you split with him as he seems to come around to the side of sanity and you part as friends. Then opening the paper in the cafe the next day and being horrified

I mean, from experience, AGI is a sort of magical thinking nexus for neighbourhood very uncle in nintendo types; if you imagine that the early employees of a sketchy startup are just the n people in the postal district who self-selected because they don't understand why this is a bad business idea, you can sort of see how the AGI startups would have an elevated level of nintendo uncles just as a consequence of this
