The Tetsuo Economy feat. Wendy Liu
We get our SF billboard specialist and recovered startup person Wendy Liu in to talk about the newest scandal rocking Silicon Valley: a company that can only be described as Theranos for Compliance.

The bar in dc was a pop up and the internet was out and they had no situations to monitor lol
Drawing with crayon a certificate saying "we r hippa compliant" You talked a little in the episode about Stanford/MIT dropouts and Forbes 30-under-30s and there must something going on there and I would further submit that this kind of scam REQUIRES that the people behind it be that kind of people. You and I could never do this scam even if we had the desire, because we don't have the specific signifiers to be granted access to the fuckoff VC slush funds
I heard matrix pods and thought of airpods to escape soy sound waves emitted by Soros from the 5g towers
Talking about spite foods; there is the Eierbal (egg ball, a peeled egg surrounded by a curry filling and breaded before being deep-fried) that is made in the Dutch province of Groningen. There was a bit of a minor controversy when someone in Nijmegen (province of Gelderland) started selling them and calling them "Keierball" (incorporating a Dutch word for a stone, 'kei') this resulted in the 'originals' now being called Groninger Eierbal.
Wendy mentioned RSA, and having attended before, it's such a weird conference. It's like a corporate simulacrum of a real security conference, where instead of real research like you might see at DEFCON, most of the talks are just bullshit. Almost all of the presentations I've seen at RSA have just been either basic stuff you should have learned in the first month of class or first week on the job, or just buzzword-filled nonsense that serves only to keep incompetent people employed. I always felt bad for the few genuinely brilliant people giving highly technical talks on cryptography to a room that was probably 50% management consultants with no actual technical expertise
i'm really torn on the em dash discourse because i'm personally a big fan of them - when used by humans
The other day I found a flash fiction I wrote years ago, before chatgpt existed, and it felt really weird to read because it was only a few sentences long and one of them was in the "it's not this, it's that" format - these days I'd never write something like that as it would look like it was written by AI, but it was the work of my human brain... and I hate that genAI is changing how we speak, whether that's people who use it all the time and pick up the syntax, or people censoring their own honest em dashes to not look like AI...
Thanks to Wendy for emphasizing that the fundamental/core wrongness is money—$32m and more—going to these scammers and not to other things like, say, a second air traffic controller at LGA.
Paul Newman in the Polymarket monitoring the situation bar: you’ve just created a million more Henry Gondorffs

Queensland Police have really taken extreme measure to stop hooning (starting war in Iran to close Strait of Hormuz)
Oh my god, correct, barked like a dog at the idea of an AI agent just patching prod servers. My actual dog is very confused
Catabolic collapse riley soon to make an apperance?
Riley’s Kent Brockman is very Netanyahu coded
If plastic becomes super expensive, maybe GW will go back to producing everything in metal! 💖
Paul Verhoeven is currently shouting at the polymarket bar bros that they need to calm the fuck down.
It’s worth noting that the film version of Akira takes out the entire second half of the manga, where the ruins of Tokyo are partially controlled Roko-esque cult that worships Tetsuo as a God while the UN waffles over whether or not it’s going to intervene
If they had left out a lot more, the movie would have been a decent length. God what a long flick.
Whenever Milo isn't on TF, everyone should be asking "Where's Milo?"
We choose to maintain our SOC2 attestation and other things in this d'Cade not because they are easy, but because they are hahd
Didn't we learn that the free market won't regulate itself a century ago?
I'd go one further. Tetsuo is a dropout the powers that be chose specifically because he was weaker and thought more easily controllable than Akira. In context it's not clear whether that kind of poorly-understood and potentially world-ending power is controllable by anyone, but Tetsuo proves an increasingly obviously poor and ultimately grotesque choice as his power runs unchecked Of course, Akira still annihilated Tokyo, he just hurt everyone around him and threatened to end the world in a way which wasn't so on-the-nose icky to look at. Though maybe that's just the nostalgia talking That was a confused metaphor about old-school finance capital and big tech, venture capital and tech startups, and 2008 and the AI/tech bubble
Fartbase energy already exist. Waste treatment plants use that to power their own systems
brb, dancing at Sora & the OpenAI/Disney deal funeral and stealing 5 plates from the repast

I wonder if the termination of plastics manufacture will change the economics of recycling plants back to pre-early-2018 status?
As someone who hasn't really kept up with recycling, what do you mean by this?
As an American, I had no idea there was ever an era of “cheap flights” 🙃 Before the war I was already reeling about the cost of my first flight since pre-Covid (SoCal to Oregon)
Awesome, love my biweekly update of just how fucked we actually are
This was more bitter than I wanted it, I love you all and the future is indeed trash
